A B&W photo of the iconic Gherkin taken during last months London Flickr Group Photowalk. I never tire of photographing this building, it's still one of my favourite London skyscrapers despite being eclipsed by some newer larger neighbours.

We're holding our next London Photowalk on Sunday 24th October if you're interested in coming along. Click here for more details : www.flickr.com/groups/londonflickrgroup/discuss/721577198...

From Wikipedia, "30 St Mary Axe (previously known as the Swiss Re Building and informally known as the Gherkin) is a commercial skyscraper in London's primary financial district, the City of London. It was completed in December 2003 and opened in April 2004. With 41 floors, it is 180 metres (591 ft) tall and stands on the sites of the former Baltic Exchange and Chamber of Shipping, which were extensively damaged in 1992 in the Baltic Exchange bombing by a device placed by the Provisional IRA in St Mary Axe, a narrow street leading north from Leadenhall Street.

After plans to build the 92-story Millennium Tower were dropped, 30 St Mary Axe was designed by Norman Foster and the Arup Group. It was erected by Skanska; construction started in 2001.

The building has become a recognisable landmark of London, and it is one of the city's most widely recognised examples of contemporary architecture. It won the 2003 Emporis Skyscraper Award."

"Slices"... "Macro Mondays"...

Macro Mondays Theme: Crystal

I wasn't going to post this week as it's been a manic week and haven't had time: girls at home for half term, my brother had to have his 2nd open heart surgery in as many weeks (all very sudden), my teenaged niece was staying with us whilst her Dad was in hospital, my daughter breaking her fingertip whilst bowling and a busy weekend full of parties!!! However my eldest is off sick from school today, so am stuck at home hence took the opportunity to take a quick shot.

Many thanks for all your comments, favourites and views, always appreciated. HMM to you all!

I realized that ever since I started the 365 project, I haven't posted many "non project" related images.. so, here is one from the archives..

I had edited this one earlier, but went back to the original and applied the techniques taught by the Institution himself, .brianday. I think he knows what he is talking about..!!!!!!

P.S. I did not rotate the image, I rotated the camera..!

Thanks for your visit and comments, they're truly appreciated.

Coming to The Guild on the 1st of October

A shot from Caister on Sea of one of the old WW2 lookout boxes that has sadly fallen into the sea. This area is well known for its rapid coastal erosion. The structure has been here for many years, its depth in the sand does change over the course of time. I was lucky with this image as the tide gave a nice curve as the water lapped round the subject. My youngest daughter on seeing the image thought it looked like a piece of cake - thus the title.

With piles of trash and deteriorating buildings, this slice of life shows just part of the sprawl of towns and cities.
