The courtyard of honor and the service courtyard were separated by a line
of four quarters. In the documents they are referred to as the "quartos viejos"
They were used as rooms for the single slaves who
worked in domestic service and one as a cook. Possibly
they were one of the first constructions. The characteristics of
foundations and their dimensions show that they were of less
importance, smaller than those built later and that were
placed around both patios.

Southern US states are known for a lot of things, their food, their vibe and character, their architecture, their easy going life mentality and in the past for their vivid support on human slavery. Back in the day, at least in Lousiana, slaves used to work under brutal conditions in plantations like the one shown in my picture. Oak Alley plantation is probably the most famous among them. Built in 1837 it was a sugarcane plantation that occupied more than 220 slaves during its peak times. It is well known for the alley created by these massive southern live oak trees that runs from the majestic house all the way to Mississippi river. A visitor can take a tour of the plantation and the luxurious house, which follows the Greek revival architecture, where the Roman family, owners of the plantation, used to live. In future posts I will provide more info about slavery in Louisiana, perhaps along with a photo of the house where the slaves lived. Today, Oak alley plantation is considered a national historic landmark and it's dedicated in the memory of those people that lived under horrible conditions and were treated like nothing more than common objects or furniture.
PS: i was illegally parked outside the Plantation when I took this photo. A State Police trooper pulled over so I had to rush and take a shot as quickly as possible so my camera settings are quite wrong affecting the clarity of the photo.

Η φυτεια Oak Alley ειναι πιθανοτατα η πιο διασημη μεταξυ αυτων. Χτιστηκε το 1837 και ηταν μια φυτεια ζαχαρης στην οποια απασχολουνταν περισσοτεροι απο 220 δουλοι. Ειναι ευρεως γνωστη για τον ιδιαιτερα εντυπωσιακο δρομο που σχηματιζεται απο τις θηριωδεις βελανιδιες ο οποιος εκτεινεται απο το κεντρικο κτηριο μεχρι την οχθη του ποταμου Mississippi. Οι επισκεπτες μπορουν να κανουν ενα tour στο πολυτελες σπιτι, το οποιο ακολουθει Αρχαιοελληνικη αρχιτεκτονική, εκει που η οικογενεια Roman, ιδιοκτητες της φυτειας, ζουσε και χρησιμοποιουσε ως "διοικητηριο" της φυτειας. Σε μελλοντικες αναρτησεις θα παραθεσω περισσοτερες λεπτομερειες για τη δουλεία στη Louisiana, πιθανον με καποιες φωτο απο τα σπιτια που ζουσαν οι σκλαβοι. Σημερα, η φυτεια Oak Alley αποτελει ιστορικο αξιοθεατο και ειναι αφιερωμενη στη μνημη αυτων των ανθρωπων που εζησαν κατω απο φρικτες συνθηκες και αντιμετωπιστηκαν στη ζωη τους ως τιποτα παρπανω απο απλα αντικειμενα η επιπλα.
ΥΓ: Στο σημειο απο το οποιο εβγαλα τη φωτο δεν επιτρεποταν το παρκαρισμα και καθως προσπαθουσα να την τραβηξω εμφανιστηκε ενας αστυνομικος οποτε, στην προσπαθεια μου να κανω οσο γρηγοροτερα γινεται δεν προσεξα τις ρυθμισεις της μηχανης με αποτελεσμα η ευκρινεια της φωτογραφιας να μην ειναι αυτη που επιθυμουσα.

The House of Slaves, Gorée Island, Dakar, Senegal.

"It was an especially sinister kind of "trading post", namely where those captured and destined to be sold off as slaves, typically to the plantations in the Americas, were "warehoused" before being "dispatched" off across the Atlantic. The site is accordingly known simply as the Maison des Esclaves, literally 'House of Slaves', and is located on the small, quiet island of Gorée, just a short boat trip out from Senegal's bustling capital city Dakar.
The Maison des Esclaves on Ile de Gorée was built in 1776, and allegedly served its function until 1848, when the then colonial power France finally abolished slavery for good as well. The site was recognized as a memorial of historical importance in 1962, shortly after Senegal's gaining independence. It was subsequently restored and in 1975 declared a national memorial. In 1978 UNESCO lifted the whole of Gorée island to the status of a World Heritage Site."

ok...here is an experiment...try to reach your left ear and change the shutter speed of your brain...reduce it as low as you can...now...your brain experiences the world around in different way....the concept of time changes...everything seems like slow motion and repeated patterns....you experience events in streatched manner....NOw...set your shutter speed back to default...again...you can feel the events in sequance and you can also track time....YOu can try higher shutter speeds too...this time,,,the brain will freeze time and events....so the space starts to shrink and time passes faster...my question is...if a simple piece of drug...can change your Brain settings and give you different understanding of time and space...then, how can I trust to what I believe as reality in daily life??...Why should the default SHUTTER speed of my brain be the reality while there are infinite other conditions...My first result is...time is an illusion made by already defined Brain settings....and then...relatively space is an illusion too...so...the whole life...the whole story of ME...my memories...and eveeery thing...is just one of the infinite possibilities that exist...and I experienced it in this way...only because of specific settings of my brain...it is like...if you tune a radio on 120FM,,,you get a Music Channel...while...if you tune it at 60AM you get a news channel...so...our life..is a result of Already tuned brains...in OUr case...maybe there is no radio station at all...maybe each brain is just a piece of Cassette or recorded tape...maybe we are just MEMORIES...like CD or DVD...we are just very advanced memory devices..or...some connectors...recievers....and the question is....Do I have any other way of searching for life mysteries except using my brain??...if no...then...in my opinion...the whole scientific challenges of human being leads nowhere...Mathematic...is nothing else than illusion of human brain...we believe 2 plus 2 is 4, because we defined it this way and etc...when mathematic fails..everything fails...and...I m very happy to announce that..as a mathematic student...I think...we are just...illusioning in serious manner and we think...we are getting closer to mysteries of life...however, we are just illusioning in a serious & formal way...I have tried to look in every scientific books I can,,,every piece of literature,,,history,,religious books...and still...all of them,,,illusions...they are results of brains...no wonder...so what are we looking for??...stop stop stop...if we are slaves of imaginations...let s create an imaginary world in which, every one lives in happiness ...and dies in mystery...and this is the most we can do.

Red Crayon Suicide Note
I was the lost child-beaten and weak,
Slaped in the face if dare I should speak,
Slave of aggression, victim of pride,
Feeling the lash of the belt to my hide.
With nothing to gain from my sad little life,
Weary from battle, cursing the strife,
I took some paper from out of my tote,
And wrote out a red crayon suicide note.
As I looked at the note, my thoughts began straying,
To books and to birds and prayers I loved praying,
It was then I decided to fight through the strife,
I threw out the letter and fiercely chose life.
Though now grown and successful, I have not forgot,
My journey to manhood-a battle hardwrought,
My love and my time I now gladly devote,
To all children with red crayon suicide notes.

Le Morne Cultural Landscape
Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a rugged mountain that juts into the Indian Ocean in the southwest of Mauritius was used as a shelter by runaway slaves, maroons, through the 18th and early years of the 19th centuries. Protected by the mountain’s isolated, wooded and almost inaccessible cliffs, the escaped slaves formed small settlements in the caves and on the summit of Le Morne. The oral traditions associated with the maroons, have made Le Morne a symbol of the slaves’ fight for freedom, their suffering, and their sacrifice, all of which have relevance to the countries from which the slaves came - the African mainland, Madagascar, India, and South-east Asia. Indeed, Mauritius, an important stopover in the eastern slave trade, also came to be known as the “Maroon republic” because of the large number of escaped slaves who lived on Le Morne Mountain.

White slavery was a systematic practice in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast, and Italy from 1500–1800.
Muslims targeted white, Christian Europeans from Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, and the Americas.
The Barbary pirates' raids were so frequent that the coastline between Venice and Málaga was depopulated.
Nations, including the United States, paid tribute to the pirates to avoid their attacks.

The George Mason Memorial, located in East Potomac Park near the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, commemorates the neglected contributions of an important Founding Father. George Mason was the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which served as an inspiration to Thomas Jefferson while drafting the Declaration of Independence. Mason later served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787. Mason also withheld his signature from the United States Constitution because it did not abolish the slave trade and felt it lacked necessary protection for the individual from the federal government. The slave cliff Traelanipa which you can find on the island Vagar, one of the many islands of the Faroe islands is a mythical place. It´s called the slave cliff, as long ago it was the place where the slaves which got too old or weak had to make their last travel from the cliff into the sea. The whole place is rough and standing there with a pumping heart from a vertigo attack. That's where I took my pano shot.
