Skyscrapers dominate the downtown area of Chicago. Many of these tall buildings are iconic. You can learn about their stories on one of the informative architectorial tours on the river.
These skyscrapers are found in down-town Denver. As I walked up to the area between them and pulled out my camera, a security guard INSTANTLY came out of a door, and told me "NO PICTURES". Having little respect for the authority of rentacops, as I started to walk away, I pointed my camera towards the sky and stole this shot. I'm SUCH a criminal!
The Viad Tower is a highrise in Midtown Phoenix, Arizona also known as the Viad Corporate Center and formerly the Dial Tower. The tower was constructed in 1991 for the Dial Corporation, which is why the building resembles a bar of Dial soap. It is currently occupied by Viad, which spun off from Dial in 1996. It rises 374 feet (114 meters), topping out at 24 floors.
It was designed in the modern style by HKS, Inc. Originally, the tower was supposed to have a twin, rotated 90 degrees from the current tower, but due to the Savings and Loan Crisis of the 1980s and 90s, the tower was dropped. Today, the Viad Tower stands as one of Phoenix's most prominent skyscrapers. It is located across the street from the Phoenix Art Museum on Central Avenue just north of McDowell Road between Downtown Phoenix and Midtown Phoenix. The building features a large landscaped public park with many statues and fountains near the entrance. Completed in 1991, the Viad Tower was the last major skyscraper to be constructed in Midtown.

A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building of many storeys, usually designed for office and commercial use. There is no official definition or height above which a building may be classified as a skyscraper. One common feature is having a steel framework from which curtain walls are suspended, rather than load-bearing walls of conventional construction.
In context, a relatively small building may be considered a skyscraper if it protrudes well above its built environment and changes the overall skyline. The maximum height of structures has progressed historically with building methods and technologies. Also lacking an official definition, the term 'Supertall' has arisen for the current generation of exceptionally tall buildings.
