Female still ripping up prey to feed chicks, but one later grabbed it and skuttled off to eat it alone. The mother gently retrieved it and proceded to feed it to the other chick.

Spring time walk in Epping Forest. It was the first warm day ( still fairly cool, but the sun was shining ) of the spring and there were several adders warming themselves on and around a log. This one was motionlesss long enough to take the pic. The rest skittering about and very wary of approaches to them. Perhaps this one had just emmerged from hibernation and was still sluggish . He / she/ it, soon skuttled off.
