Boston, officially the City of Boston, is the capital and largest city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the cultural and financial center of the New England region of the Northeastern United States. The city boundaries encompass an area of about 48.4 sq mi (125 km2) and a population of 675,647 as of 2020. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area known as Greater Boston, a metropolitan statistical area (MSA) home to 4,941,632 people as of 2020, ranking as the eleventh-largest MSA in the country. A broader combined statistical area (CSA), generally corresponding to the commuting area and including Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island, is home to approximately 8.2 million people, making it the seventh-most populous in the United States.
Boston is one of the nation's oldest municipalities, founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from the English town of the same name. During the American Revolution and the nation's founding, Boston was the location of several key events, including the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the hanging of Paul Revere's lantern signal in Old North Church, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the siege of Boston. Following American independence from Great Britain, the city continued to play an important role as a port, manufacturing hub, and center for American education and culture. The city has expanded beyond the original peninsula through land reclamation and municipal annexation. Its rich history attracts many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone drawing more than 20 million visitors per year. Boston's many firsts include the United States' first public park (Boston Common, 1634), the first public school (Boston Latin School, 1635), the first subway system (Tremont Street subway, 1897), and the first large public library (Boston Public Library, 1848).
In the 21st century, Boston has emerged as a global leader in higher education and academic research. Greater Boston's many colleges and universities include Harvard University and MIT, both located in suburban Cambridge and both routinely included among the world's most highly ranked universities. The city is also a national leader in scientific research, law, medicine, engineering, and business. With nearly 5,000 startup companies, the city is considered a global pioneer in innovation and entrepreneurship. Boston's economic base also includes finance, professional and business services, biotechnology, information technology, and government activities. Households in the city claim the highest average rate of philanthropy in the United States. Boston businesses and institutions rank among the top in the country for environmental sustainability and new investment.

Beacon Hill is a historic neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It is also the location of the Massachusetts State House. The term "Beacon Hill" is used locally as a metonym to refer to the state government or the legislature itself, much like Washington, D.C.'s Capitol Hill does at the federal level.
Federal-style rowhouses, narrow gaslit streets and brick sidewalks run through the neighborhood, which is generally regarded as one of the more desirable and expensive in Boston. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population of Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood was 9,023.

Cheers Beacon Hill is a bar/restaurant located on Beacon Street in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, across from the Boston Public Garden. Founded in 1969 as the Bull & Finch Pub, the bar is best remembered internationally as the exterior of the bar seen in the NBC sitcom Cheers, which ran between 1982 and 1993. The Bull & Finch changed its name to Cheers in 2002 after closing a deal with NBC.

Sanford and Son is an American sitcom television series that ran on the NBC television network from January 14, 1972, to March 25, 1977. It was based on the British sitcom Steptoe and Son, which initially aired on BBC One in the United Kingdom from 1962 to 1974.
Known for its edgy racial humor, running gags, and catchphrases, the series was adapted by Norman Lear and considered NBC's answer to CBS's All in the Family. Sanford and Son has been hailed as the precursor to many other African-American sitcoms. It was a rating hit throughout its six-season run, finishing in the Nielsen top ten for five of those seasons.
While the role of Fred G. Sanford was known for his bigotry and cantankerousness, the role of Lamont Sanford was that of Fred's long-suffering, conscientious, peacemaker son. At times, both characters involved themselves in schemes, usually as a means of earning cash quickly to pay off their various debts. Other colorful and unconventional characters on the show included Aunt Esther, Grady Wilson, Bubba Bexley, and Rollo Lawson.

The job that never happened. Back in 2019, it was the 30th anniversary of the American sitcom television series “Seinfeld.” I was hired to do this drawing for the “Seinfeld Experience” that was going to be in New York City that November. The Experience was going to recreate the sets from the show, have a gag wall, all of the props (puffy shirt, man bra, etc.) and other things. This drawing was going to be blown up mural size, 10 X 17 feet (3 X 5 meters) and be the first thing that people saw when entering. This was a dream job! My client and I had a blast coming up with things for the drawing. It only made it to the sketch stage. The opening was pushed to December 2019 and then March 2020. And we all know what happened then. The world ended because of Covid. I recently was in touch with my client because I never really knew what happened. I found out that the project did fall through. Now I can finish the drawing for myself. I have especially been wanting to since “Seinfeld” started on Netflix. This is a big drawing: 22 X 30 inches (56 X 76 cm). It has been packed up in my studio since August 2019. It is now on my drawing table and I need to look at it again before starting. I can’t wait! I love this drawing!

"Hellooo~~! Long time no see! Wow, you have a HOUSE FULL here Jerry! A get-together and you didn't invite your UNCLE LEO?? What, is my number unlisted? Did you lose your phone? Did you develop amnesia?"
"See? That's all he does. He just talks and talks. He's like a broken shutter. Always flapping in the breeze."
"I know, Elaine, but if he talks about seeing me and Lotta together at the meet-and-greet, then I'm sunk!"*
"At least its all familiar faces! A man my age can get lonely! Hey, ELAINE!"
"Hi, Uncle Leo!"
"You're looking PRETTY! Just as pretty as EVER! Jerry, what's your problem?? Your pretty girlfriend is over here while you're chewing the fat with Kramer!"**
"I'm not his girlfriend, Uncle Leo."
"Standing over there with George! Jerry, if you don't watch it, George is going to be making moves on Elaine!!"
"Oh, please, make this stop."
"But, not to worry, I saw George making time with Lotta at the meet-and-greet!"
"Wait, you saw what??"

At the Severn Valley Railway, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 7th June 2025.
About the photograph.
This is a re-enactor whom is dressed up very much like Captain Mainwaring from the 1970s British television sitcom called Dad’s Army.
Actually, the re-enactor is simply dressed up like a Home Guard officer, as part of the Severn Valley Railway’s Step Back to the 1940s event. Here, he is sitting at a desk ready to stamp a replica National Registration identity card as seen in his left hand, for any visitors who may want a memorabilia of their visit.
The photo was shot in colour, but because of the 1940s theme, where black and white was generally used more often than colour, I decided to use Adobe Lightroom to convert it into black and white to suit the era.
About Severn Valley Railway.
The Severn Valley Railway is a 16 miles single track heritage railway line in Worcestershire and Shropshire, between the towns of Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. The railway line follows the course of the River Severn along the Severn Valley.
The train services are often hauled by a mix of vintage steam locomotives, and classic diesel locomotives, usually pulling resorted heritage carriages.
The Severn Valley Railway often holds special events during some weekends, and the Step Back to the 1940s event is one of the many events.

Lego Simpsons 71005
The Simpsons is an American adult animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.
The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the network's first series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989–1990).
Since its debut on December 17, 1989, the show has broadcast 548 episodes and the 25th season began on September 30, 2013. The Simpsons is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009 it surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American primetime, scripted television series. The Simpsons Movie, a feature-length film, was released in theaters worldwide on July 26 and 27, 2007, and grossed over $527 million.

Remember this one , Bo n Luke Duke in their wild 69 Dodge Charger , the General Lee in the early 80's TV sitcom series The Dukes of Hazzard . Like the movie series this one was driven by a couple of spirited lads out to enjoy the day . They rolled into my coffee stop on this day and caused some commotion .. They wouldn't be Dukes if they didn't ..
Continuing ..
Interesting in the making of the television series something like 280 odd cars were used to make the daredevil jump scenes in the entire series . The doors were welded shut and the boots were weighted down with poured in concrete to have the cars land more neutral or with their tails down in the jump sequences so the mortality on these cars was heavy , a total disregard of the car , it was all for effect , the General appeared nigh indestructible , as only the General Lee could be . With all that said its nice to see such a good clean roadworthy example as this particular high calibre car .

The BBC Wales sitcom High Hopes was shown between 2002 and 2009 and was set in the South Wales Valleys. It featured the late Margaret John, who went on to appear as Doris in Gavin & Stacey. From the New York Times;
Nichelle Nichols, Lieutenant Uhura on ‘Star Trek,’ Dies at 89
She was among the first Black women to have a leading role in a TV series. She later worked with NASA to recruit minorities for the space program.
By Bruce Weber
July 31, 2022
Nichelle Nichols, the actress revered by “Star Trek” fans for her role as Lieutenant Uhura, the communications officer on the starship U.S.S. Enterprise, died on Saturday in Silver City, N.M. She was 89.
The cause was heart failure, said Sky Conway, a writer and a film producer who said he had been asked by Kyle Johnson, Ms. Nichols’s son, to speak for the family.
Ms. Nichols had a long career as an entertainer, beginning as a teenage supper-club singer and dancer in Chicago, her hometown, and later appearing on television.
But she will forever be best remembered for her work on “Star Trek,” the cult-inspiring space adventure series that aired from 1966 to 1969 and starred William Shatner as Captain Kirk, the heroic leader of the starship crew; Leonard Nimoy as his science officer and adviser, Mr. Spock, an ultralogical humanoid from the planet Vulcan; and DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, a.k.a. Bones, the ship’s physician.
A striking beauty, Ms. Nichols provided a frisson of sexiness on the bridge of the Enterprise. She was generally clad in a snug red doublet and black tights; Ebony magazine called her the “most heavenly body in ‘Star Trek’” on its 1967 cover. Her role, however, was both substantial and historically significant.
Uhura was an officer and a highly educated and well-trained technician who maintained a businesslike demeanor while performing her high-minded duties. Ms. Nichols was among the first Black women to have a leading role on a network television series, making her an anomaly on the small screen, which until that time had rarely depicted Black women in anything other than subservient roles.
In a November 1968 episode, during the show’s third and final season, Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura are forced to embrace by the inhabitants of a strange planet, resulting in what is widely thought to be the first interracial kiss in television history.
Ms. Nichols’s first appearances on “Star Trek” predated the 1968 sitcom “Julia,” in which Diahann Carroll, playing a widowed mother who works as a nurse, became the first Black woman to star in a non-stereotypical role in a network series.
(A series called “Beulah,” also called “The Beulah Show,” starring Ethel Waters — and later Louise Beavers and Hattie McDaniel — as the maid for a white family, was broadcast on ABC in the early 1950s and subsequently cited by civil rights activists for its demeaning portraits of Black people.)
But Uhura’s influence reached far beyond television. In 1977, Ms. Nichols began an association with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, contracting as a representative and speaker to help recruit female and minority candidates for spaceflight training; the following year’s class of astronaut candidates was the first to include women and members of minority groups.
In subsequent years, Ms. Nichols made public appearances and recorded public service announcements on behalf of the agency. In 2012, after she was the keynote speaker at the Goddard Space Center during a celebration of African American History Month, a NASA news release about the event lauded her help for the cause of diversity in space exploration.
“Nichols’s role as one of television’s first Black characters to be more than just a stereotype and one of the first women in a position of authority (she was fourth in command of the Enterprise) inspired thousands of applications from women and minorities,” the release said. “Among them: Ronald McNair, Frederick Gregory, Judith Resnik, first American woman in space Sally Ride and current NASA administrator Charlie Bolden.”
Grace Dell Nichols was born in Robbins, Ill., on Dec. 28, 1932 (some sources give a later year), and grew up in Chicago. Her father, a chemist, was the mayor of Robbins for a time. At 13 or 14, tired of being called Gracie by her friends, she requested a different name from her mother, who liked Michelle but suggested Nichelle for the alliteration.
Ms. Nichols was a ballet dancer as a child and had a singing voice with a naturally wide range — more than four octaves, she later said. While attending Englewood High School in Chicago she landed her first professional gig, in a revue at the College Inn, a well-known nightspot in the city.
There she was seen by Duke Ellington, who employed her a year or two later with his touring orchestra as a dancer in one of his jazz suites.
Ms. Nichols appeared in several musical theater productions around the country during the 1950s. In an interview with the Archive of American Television, she recalled performing at the Playboy Club in New York City while serving as an understudy for Ms. Carroll in the Broadway musical “No Strings” (though she never went on).
In 1959, she was a dancer in Otto Preminger’s film version of “Porgy and Bess.” She made her television debut in 1963 in an episode of “The Lieutenant,” a short-lived dramatic series, created by Gene Roddenberry, about Marines at Camp Pendleton. Mr. Roddenberry went on to create “Star Trek.”
Ms. Nichols appeared on other television shows over the years — among them “Peyton Place” (1966), “Head of the Class” (1988) and “Heroes” (2007). She also appeared onstage in Los Angeles, including in a one-woman show in which she did impressions of, and paid homage to, Black female entertainers who preceded her, including Lena Horne, Pearl Bailey and Eartha Kitt.
But Uhura was to be her legacy. A decade after “Star Trek” went off the air, Ms. Nichols reprised the role in “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” and she appeared as Uhura, by then a commander, in five subsequent movie sequels through 1991.
Besides her son, her survivors include two sisters, Marian Smothers and Diane Robinson.
Ms. Nichols was married and divorced twice. In her 1995 autobiography, “Beyond Uhura: Star Trek and Other Memories,” she disclosed that she and Mr. Roddenberry, who died in 1991, had been romantically involved for a time. In an interview in 2010 for the Archive of American Television, she said that he had little to do with her casting in “Star Trek” but that he defended her when studio executives wanted to replace her.
When she took the role of Uhura, Ms. Nichols said, she thought of it as a mere job at the time, valuable as a résumé enhancer; she fully intended to return to the stage, as she wanted a career on Broadway. Indeed, she threatened to leave the show after its first season and submitted her resignation to Mr. Roddenberry. He told her to think it over for a few days.
In a story she often told, she was a guest that Saturday night at an event in Beverly Hills, Calif. — “I believe it was an N.A.A.C.P. fund-raiser,” she recalled in the Archive interview — where the organizer introduced her to someone he described as “your biggest fan.”
“He’s desperate to meet you,” she recalled the organizer saying.
The fan, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., introduced himself.
“He said, ‘We admire you greatly, you know,’ ” Ms. Nichols said, and she thanked him and told him that she was about to leave the show. “He said, ‘You cannot. You cannot.’”
Dr. King told her that her role as a dignified, authoritative figure in a popular show was too important to the cause of civil rights for her to forgo. As Ms. Nichols recalled it, he said, “For the first time, we will be seen on television the way we should be seen every day.”
On Monday morning, she returned to Mr. Roddenberry’s office and told him what had happened.
“And I said, ‘If you still want me to stay, I’ll stay. I have to.’”

Correction: Aug. 1, 2022
An earlier version of this obituary misspelled the surname of one of the Black and female astronauts who were inspired to join the American space program by Ms. Nichols’s groundbreaking role in “Star Trek,” according to NASA. She was Judith Resnik, not Resnick.

Based on the fantastic British sitcom ‘The IT Crowd’ by Channel 4, written by Graham Linehan, starring Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson.
I tried to come as close to the original office used in the series, which can be seen here .
I created over 40 decals, based on the posters used in the set. The screens show 2 key elements from 2 episodes.
This vig was a little present I made for the Secret Santa event 2012 over at MOCpages.
Well, true to form, after a succession of cloudless mornings, I JUST caught the tail end of a spectacular sunrise due to sleeping through the alarm...I glanced out the window and quickly threw on something to dash into the yard for a few shots...that'll teach me to stay up late binge watching my favorite sitcom, 'The Goldbergs'...lol
One of my wishes is that I could have been in one of those old 70's TV Sitcoms that had a pie fight. There's nothing like a pie fight done well. The reactions were everything.
ODC-Sweetness
I'm sure many of you out there remember tuning in to The Honeymooner's every week. The original series lasted a year. Stu loved this show, it supposedly took place in Brooklyn, NY where he was born.

Backstory: Melissa Carsdale, star of the sitcom "Everybody's Happy", had all she could ever dream of. She loved the attention, much like the upcoming villain known as Mysterio. Things took a turn for the worst when her co-star Leonard Groote left the show, as he was offered a role in "Portrait of a Young Artist" which ultimately led to the shows cancellation, as he was a key part of the show. This led to her essentially being forgotten by Hollywood, and her spotlight was all but faded. Furious, she spent years developing a machine that would make Leonard grieve as much as she's grieved. It was during this time where she would reunite with a former guest star on the show, Sybil Dvorak, who was now calling herself Skein. Melissa began calling herself Misery, as that's what she felt for so long, and the two decided that two is better than one. Now, they pull off many heists so Melissa can earn enough money to finally build this "Grief Machine" as she liked to call it. She uses various gadgets in her heists, including knockout globes, electrical current gloves, and smoke grenades.
Reminded me of Seinfeld episode, ‘The Voice.’

My holiday continues apace. All day walking and visiting, balanced with late night drinking and British Sitcom.
It's all rock n' roll!!!!
Was there a period where he was up in the night changing ice nappies and if so can I please make a sitcom about it?
Christmas Time Capsule
Here is the link to the video!!
Called the Christmas Time Capsule for very good reason, this home was left in an untouched state for years and remained so until after it was first discovered. The house was filled with furniture, personal belongings, photos covering the walls, oh and of course Christmas decorations, lots and lots of decorations. Unfortunately time has not been kind to this "time capsule", vandals had discovered the home since the first explorers visited and tossed belongings everywhere, stolen items, put holes and even wrote graffiti on the walls. Despite all the destruction it was still a very interesting explore!
Having done a little bit of research I found out that the woman who lived here died in 2001 and her husband had died 9 years earlier. Does this mean that the home has been sitting abandoned for 20 years? I don't think so, I also found two calendars in the home dating back to 2011 and 2012 and I would imagine that's how long this home has been sitting. This leaves a gap of about 11 years where someone else was living in the home, maybe it was one of the children or some other relative, we may never have the answer to this. One thing that we know for sure is that the last occupants definitely liked Christmas and it is likely that the home was abandoned around that time. A few years ago the property was sold for tax arears which leads one to believe that the last occupant may have been having financial problems.
The home is now starting to show signs of mold growing in the kitchen and the basement but there seems to be a relatively new roof and the outside of the home was also updated with vinyl siding, if the property continues to sit, it could be a very long time before the home begins to decay naturally. If it weren't for the overgrown and unkept yard passersby would have no idea that this house is even sitting abandoned, that's how good it looks from the road. Only time will tell what happens to this property from this point onward.

For lovers of the long running British sitcom, Last of the Summer Wine, these are the graves of the two prime characters that feature strongly throughout the series.
The series has been officially declared the world's longest-running television sitcom, airing continuously between Wednesday 4th January 1973 to Sunday 29th August 2010. Bill Owen ("Compo Simmonite") & Peter Sallis who was the sole cast member to appear (as Norman Clegg) throughout the whole 31 seasons.

Who's that girl? It's Jess!
Sitcoms again! Five years ago on May 15, New Girl's series finale aired after seven great seasons. (I was going to post this yesterday but got late on my Ghosts post.) Truly this is one of my favorite sitcoms ever - laugh out loud funny constantly, with amazing characters. Hope you all enjoy the figs!
