I'm thinking of "sophisticated" and "liberated" 1970s "sitcoms" featuring "romance": in a human setting Bill would have a cheap cheroot in one hand and a pina colada in the other and, if the "sitcom" was of BBC manufacture, there would be stock muzak from the BBC Sound Library, out of date even in 1965 when it was made.
A cheroot and a pina colada were super-sophisticated signifiers, more so even than contemporary "nouveau cuisine" and specifically chilled "mineral" water.
Coo, of course, wore a timeless and studied expression of boredom.

Maggie Han (born 1959) is an American retired actress. Her career began with modeling jobs in the United States and France and progressed to acting in film and television productions. She is best known for playing Yoshiko Kawashima in The Last Emperor and Cheryl the lawyer in the NBC sitcom Seinfeld.
Maggie Han was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Her parents were retired music professors who immigrated to the United States from South Korea. She grew up enthralled by feminist literature and stated that she developed an "aversion to the idea of marriage and a family." At the age of 16, Han enrolled at Harvard University and majored in American history. Upon the suggestion of a stranger, she contacted a local modeling agency and began working part-time. After receiving an increasing number of job offers, Han decided to model full-time in Paris.
She modeled for six years in Paris and later New York and has described one of her more memorable experiences as being a photo-shoot in a war-torn area of Lebanon. In 1983, Han returned to Harvard to continue working on her degree. While there, she became an award-winning reporter for the Harvard Crimson newspaper. During this time she got a deal to do part-time modeling for the pantyhose company L'eggs and appeared in several commercials for them. In 1985, Han received an offer to audition for the miniseries Space. To make her acting debut in that series, she again dropped out of Harvard but stated that returning for a second time was a possibility. Afterward, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue further acting roles, including Sandy in several episodes of LA Law and Eastern Jewel in The Last Emperor, her film debut.

The new Get Smart movie is now being shown in theaters. This, of course, was based on the original TV series, Get Smart which aired from 1965 to 1970. One of my favorite all time sitcoms, it starred Don Adams as Maxwell Smart. Long before the modern day cell phone was invented, Smart used an analog rotary dial wireless telephone which he had neatly hidden in the soul of his shoe. I like to think of Maxwell Smart as the world's first person to use a cell phone, some 30 years before anyone else.
Don Adams (1923-2005) was an actor and stand-up comedian. His album, Don Adams, Live? was recorded live at the Sands in Las Vegas in 1967.
My favorite sitcom of all time. Since being in perpetual rerun since the 1970s, I don't remember a time when Jeannie was not a part of my life. Characters I've always known that become like family. And so glad I finally got to meet Barbara Eden last year.
First episode aired on September 18, 1965.

"I can't believe Uncle Leo told Jerry about seeing me and Lotta together at the Mix-and-Meet luncheon."
"George, that's all Uncle Leo does. Tell everyone about everything he sees. What's the big deal anyway?"
"I told Jerry it was over between Lotta and me, and Jerry said it couldn't be over yet because I was too weak to tell her. Now Jerry is going to know I'm weak!"
"George, that cat was out of the bag a long time ago. Anyway, Jerry hasn't seemed to notice. He's got something going on with Kramer and Newman over there."*
"He noticed Elaine! Oh, he noticed! Jerry captures every detail and he's just waiting to STICK IT TO ME!"

This is for anyone who remembers the TV sitcom “Butterflies” which aired from 1978-83. The outdoor scenes were filmed in Cheltenham and this new bench in our local park commemorates the series as it has been placed on the spot where Wendy Craig would sit and think. We thoroughly enjoyed watching filming sessions and spotting the Union Jack topped mini that she drove around the town... happy days!
The background photo shows the view from the bench.

That's why, when Philo Farnsworth invented the first all-electronic TV set in 1927, he should have forever destroyed the prototype once he learned that one day, an asinine concomitant TV-borne instrument would arise called THE SITCOM!

Jerry: "Hello... NEWMAN!"
Newman: Jerry. We've got a wager we'd like you to settle.
Kramer: And it's a big one so we need a completely impartial judge. Okay, Jerry, my long time friend?
...laughter...
Wow, Chameleon* really shelled out some money to bring Seinfeld to the Bijou Planks!
He knew we were about to walk!
Shhh!!
Jerry: How can I be impartial? I don't even like Newman!
Newman: I told you this was a waste, Kramer! Jerry couldn't judge a jacket, much less our bet. ...laughter... Let's go ask FDR.
Jerry: Hold on! Hold on... First, I don't even know what that means, but I find it insulting. And who says I can't judge?
Kramer: Okay, so you'll do it?
Jerry: I'll do it! I'll BE THE JUDGE!
...laughter...
Kramer: Okay, and Newman, you agree that Jerry's decision is binding?
Newman: I suppose... not that I trust Jerry or his opinion, but this is so cut-and-dry even he can't mess it up!
Jerry: You're not getting on the judge's good side... NEWMAN!
...laughter...

The freeze frame from a sitcom's intro sequence, Holly looks at the camera with that knowing smile after wrestling a mountain lion into submission.
I'll tell ya...that look is always a good sign, on a shoot...in life. That "oh you scamp, you" look, it's a knowing amusement, it's understanding, it's lightness. I've given some weird direction, or tossed off a ridiculous comment, and this face says Holly gets it, knows I'm being silly, and can't help but enjoy herself.
At which point the real fun begins...
I just had to name this one after a 90's sitcom, I just couldn't help my self. That TGIF television block used to be the best.
Anyway, today's roidweek entry is brand spanking new, since I took it less than 24 hours ago. Met Iryna by the dam across town and we nearly sweat to death even though it's October. Apparently the month is confused as to what sort of weather it should have after that hurricane. But we got through it, took some great photos as the sun slowly set, and got some nice shots near the water as well. I don't do this photo taking thing enough these days.
A shopkeeper stands outside his store awaiting trade. Buckets, bags, mattresses, clothing are all for sale. The store looks akin to a haberdashery version of the TV sitcom Arkrights.
Cause The Marvel Family deserves a sitcom, honestly.
King Kull: I don't think I've ever seen this guy done in Fig form before. Ooga chakka.
IBAC: Isn't there like a Satanic version of this guy too? Sabac or something? I dunno. Either way, this is not an easy dude to make look interesting.
Black Adam, Mister Mind and Doc Sivana are pretty much the same as ever.
Mister Atom: Didn't want to build a robot, so pretend this Sentinel is blue and yellow.
Aunt Minerva: This is a weird character, who I kind of love.
Captain Nazi: I hate Fawcett City Nazis. Boots are painted from something else.

"There's something wrong here, Wanda..."
Been itching to do this edit since EP5 debuted last Friday.
I think it's safe to say that WandaVision has already exceeded all expectations as it continues to get better and better each week. Every episode has been better than the last and the momentum of the story has been a really welcome surprise. So far the series has really proven to be well worth the wait. Can't wait for the second half. Still not doing customs for this one at the moment unless Wanda gets a new suit or a major villain like Mephisto shows up by the end of it. We'll see!
The fantastic custom printed Wanda Maximoff (Crimson Charmer) minifig used here is from Diamond Custom Bricks & designed by Phoenix Customs!

"Mr. Scott. When we're in the office."
"... When we're 'in the office'? We never see each other outside of the office. And the last time I called you 'Mr. Scott' you told me to call you Michael."
"I don't... right, okay, Michael is fine."
"So I just got this email from DeFlores and they said they're waiting on the signed POs. You said you signed them and sent them?"
"I did... say that. But I can't be sure now whether it happened."
"Whether it happened??"
"Whether I signed the papers. In fact, I think... well, I'm not sure."
"Michael, we've already broken two deadlines on this order. All that's needed is your signature. Just sign them and everything else is done. Is there a reason you haven't signed them?"
"The... vagaries of happenstance."
"... ... The vagaries of happenstance. Michael that doesn't make any sense."
"The vagaries of... unforeseen..."
"Michael, happenstance is vagaries. Look, if you just go to your office and sign the POs right now, all this will be done. And I can bring other things to your attention that you're behind on."
"In my office, I would sign on the... verification..."
"The digital signature pad. You'd sign the digital signature pad. ... ... Do you know how to use the digital signature pad?"
"I can do it, Michael!"
"Dwight, Michael has to sign because he's the manager."
"Right, I'll sign it. Just come and we'll hook it... and..."
*sigh* "Come on, I'll show you how to connect it."

**This image was taken at 3:38 a.m. EDT on July 13, one day before New Horizons’ closest approach to Pluto.**
New Horizons has obtained impressive new images of Pluto and its large moon Charon that highlight their compositional diversity. These are not actual color images of Pluto and Charon—they are shown here in exaggerated colors that make it easy to note the differences in surface material and features on each planetary body.
The images were obtained using three of the color filters of the “Ralph” instrument on July 13 at 3:38 am EDT. New Horizons has seven science instruments on board the spacecraft—including “Ralph” and “Alice”, whose names are a throwback to the “Honeymooners,” a popular 1950s sitcom.
“These images show that Pluto and Charon are truly complex worlds. There's a whole lot going on here,” said New Horizons co-investigator Will Grundy, Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, Arizona. “Our surface composition team is working as fast as we can to identify the substances in different regions on Pluto and unravel the processes that put them where they are.”
The color data helps scientists understand the molecular make-up of ices on the surfaces of Pluto and Charon, as well as the age of geologic features such as craters. They can also tell us about surface changes caused by space “weather,” such as radiation.
The new color images reveal that the “heart” of Pluto actually consists of two remarkably different-colored regions. In the false-color image, the heart consists of a western lobe shaped like an ice cream cone that appears peach color in this image. A mottled area on the right (east) side looks bluish. A mid-latitude band appears in shades ranging from pale blue through red. Even within the northern polar cap, in the upper part of the image, various shades of yellow-orange indicate subtle compositional differences. This image was obtained using three of the color filters of the Ralph instrument on July 13 at 3:38 am EDT and received on the ground on at 12:25 pm.
Charon is Just as Colorful
The surface of Charon is viewed using the same exaggerated color. The red on the dark northern polar cap of Charon is attributed to hydrocarbon and other molecules, a class of chemical compounds called tholins. The mottled colors at lower latitudes point to the diversity of terrains on Charon. This image was obtained using three of the color filters of the Ralph instrument on July 13 at 3:38 am EDT and received on the ground on at 12:25 pm.
“We make these color images to highlight the variety of surface environments present in the Pluto system,” said Dennis Reuter, co-investigator with the New Horizons Composition Team. “They show us in an intuitive way that there is much still to learn from the data coming down.”
Due to the three-billion-mile distance to Pluto, data takes 4 ½ hours to come to Earth, even at the speed of light. It will take 16 months for all of New Horizons’ science data to be received, and the treasure trove from this mission will be studied for decades to come.
Image Caption: Pluto and Charon in False Color Show Compositional Diversity
This July 13, 2015, image of Pluto and Charon is presented in false colors to make differences in surface material and features easy to see. It was obtained by the Ralph instrument on NASA's New Horizons spacecraft, using three filters to obtain color information, which is exaggerated in the image. These are not the actual colors of Pluto and Charon, and the apparent distance between the two bodies has been reduced for this side-by-side view.
The image reveals that the bright heart-shaped region of Pluto includes areas that differ in color characteristics. The western lobe, shaped like an ice-cream cone, appears peach color in this image. A mottled area on the right (east) appears bluish. Even within Pluto's northern polar cap, in the upper part of the image, various shades of yellow-orange indicate subtle compositional differences.
The surface of Charon is viewed using the same exaggerated color. The red on the dark northern polar cap of Charon is attributed to hydrocarbon materials including a class of chemical compounds called tholins. The mottled colors at lower latitudes point to the diversity of terrains on Charon.

At 7:49 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 14 New Horizons sped past Pluto at 30,800 miles per hour (49,600 kilometers per hour), with a suite of seven science instruments. As planned, New Horizons went incommunicado as it hurtled through the Pluto-Charon system busily gathering data. The New Horizons team will breathe a sigh of relief when New Horizons “phones home” at approximately 9:02 p.m. EDT on July 14. The mission to the icy dwarf planet completes the initial reconnaissance of the solar system.

Those Duke boys had arrived in the General Lee a tad before I got there to have my morning coffee . Apparently there was a confrontation between the woman in the green top here getting out of her car and Luke Duke .. he was the one with the dark hair remember . She was complaining while ordering a coffee just in front of me about his attitude regarding her driving skills in them parking their cars near simultaneous it appears .. he said she nearly hit his car ..
At this stage I had gotten out of my car and was heading to order a coffee and not wanting to miss the opportunity of getting a few pics of the car captured this shot . I headed over with Luke , Bo and Daisy , yeah there was three of them just like in the movie disappearing in front of me into the convenience store for something .. Can I say one thing Daisy looked pretty good on the eye .

"Shh! Where have you been?"
"Well, I've been out. I went down to the bodega and do you remember they had the 8 packs of Juicy Fruit? Well, I-
"KRAMER!"
...laughter...
"What!?"
"Were you out at any time with Teela?? Please say you weren't."
"Teela? Oh, yeah, I saw her outside Monk's and I was talking about the movie Usurper, you know, how it was great fantasy. And she said she doubted it could impress her, so I said, 'Well, let's go see.'"
"Oh, noooo... no no no no!"
"What!?"
"He-Man was in here earlier!"*
"Oh, yeah? Prince Adam? How's he-"
"KRAMER!!"
...laughter...
"He found the ticket stubs! He thinks Teela may be steppin out on him, and he's REALLY angry!"
"Yeah, he said he was 'vexed'! And you know what that means!"
"No, no, I don't know what that means. What does that mean?"
...laughter...
"It means... well, I don't know exactly either but when He-Man's angry and he says he's vexed, it means you better not be the vexee!"
...laughter...
"Okay, let's calm down. It was obviously innocent and nothing for He-Man to worry about. You just went to see a movie."
"So, he thinks me and Teela... you know..."
"Yeah. We know."
...laughter...
"So we've got to make sure he knows it was nothing."
"Hm... well, I couldn't help but notice the way she looked at me during the movie, and laughed, and touched my shoulder..."
"KRAMER!! You're not going to have shoulders! Or anything above your shoulders, when He-Man hits you with his sword!"
...laughter...
"Look, just don't say anything. I'm going to go over and talk with Teela and Elaine, see if I can get more details to put He-Man's mind at ease."
"Yeah, we need to de-vex him, and fast."

I'm always struck by the anachronism of a coffee place that obviously peaked before the sitcom Friends did.
Back on my New Yawk shit for a minute.
In the sitcom cartoon "Futurama" which is supposed to take place in some sort of dystopian future, they always refer to NYC as New, New York City. These days that phrase is becoming more popular with the tremendous editions of new and modern skyscrapers being added to the skyline.
“Einstein Knows Best” is an American sitcom starring Jane Wyatt, Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray, Lauren Chapin, and of course Albert Einstein. The show follows the lives of an ordinary family led by a kind-hearted Swiss patent clerk who solved the family’s day-to-day problems with thought experiments.
Viewers today find the show irritating because of its odd and at times inappropriate laugh track. However, it did make Einstein a household name and brought him the great fame that he enjoyed until his passing. The episode called “E=mc2” was the highest viewed TV show episode in broadcast history.

All three traffic lights aligned in my favor for this one, as Union Pacific 7455 and 5579 make good time down the Valley Subdivision covering the elven mile span from Ostrom to Brock in just under twenty minutes. Me on the other hand only took about nineteen, and didn't have enough time to get closer to Racoon Creek or the signals since the train was already at Yankee Slough when I got ahead of it.
Libretto Final Thoughts
The phrase “treat yo’ self” from the sitcom Parks and Recreation may be a bit cliché, but it embodies the essence of embracing the glorious moments at Libretto. The experience was rich and personal, the sound was exceptional, and the intimate venue brought everyone closer together. Wherever you sat or stood, you were united with the band in a celebration of music and connection.
