This creative collaboration between Lovebytes and Sheffield Young Singers gives young people aged 6-16 the chance to explore the creative potential of digital technologies. A series of workshops for the brothers and sisters of children in the highly successful choir, Sheffield Young Singers, has resulted in the creation of a visual accompaniment to which will be projected as the choir give the premiere performance of A Sheffield Song Book.
A Sheffield Song Book is a suite of six songs giving a child's eye view of Sheffield. The Song Book was commissioned by Sheffield Young Singers and has been written by Berlie Doherty with music by Richard Chew. During the Siblings Project the participants learned about a range of photographic techniques (portraits, landscapes, close-up and abstract work, etc) and captured images to illustrate the themes of the six songs in the song book. The children's pictures will be edited into a continuous image stream for projection during the choir's performance.
Over 20 young people aged 6-16 took part in the project led by Vicky Morris, a freelance photography tutor and editor of Cube Magazine.
Ghanafest 2016: the singers were doing "Ghana spirtu pront" (impromptu singing), a traditional form where they take turns to sing improvised rhyming verses on a subject chosen by themselves or their audience.
