The Ypsilanti Singers, later called Madrigal Singers, were created under the leadership of Fredrick Alexander. The singing group consisted of 21 to 23 members chosen each semester by audition. The group originally performed at civic, educational, and church functions. As years went on the group was able to travel to Great Britain multiple times and perform at the cathedrals, universities, festivals, and town halls.

高校卒業後は音楽の道に進み、20歳のとき「思い出は美しすぎて」でプロ歌手としてデビュー。このデビュー曲はオリコン最高位25位、売上12万枚[4]のヒットとなったものの、他人の作曲として嫌々歌ったシングル「さよならの言葉」はオリコン最高位67位、売上1.9万枚しか売れず、商業的に失敗となった。
歌手として引退の危機に陥っていたとき、東京・原宿の歩道橋で不意に曲想を得て「みずいろの雨」を作曲（作詞は三浦徳子）。この曲を同年に3枚目のシングルとしてリリースしたところ、有線放送やラジオ番組を中心にリクエスト回数が増え始めオリコンチャートの順位も上がっていった。TBS系で1978年1月放映開始の音楽番組『ザ・ベストテン』の「今週のスポットライト」に出演したことで全国区に知名度を上げ、一夜にして大ブレイクした。オリコン最高2位、売上60万枚のヒット曲となる。
その後も「想い出のスクリーン」「ポーラー・スター」「Mr.ブルー 〜私の地球〜」などのヒット曲をとばした。なお、『ザ・ベストテン』の司会者だった久米宏からは、八神が毎回登場する度に自身の体型や衣装の話などでよくからかわれ、久米のコメントにずっと困惑していたという。
1980年4月から54日間、アメリカ・ロサンゼルスに渡り、一般人家庭にホームステイ。帰国後発売した「パープルタウン」がオリコン最高位2位、売上60万枚[9]の大ヒットとなり、暮れの『第31回NHK紅白歌合戦』には同曲で初出場。この頃、郷ひろみとの交際が週刊誌に取沙汰されたこともあったが、八神によると郷は映画や食事に行く程度の友人に過ぎず、恋人ではなかったという。
1983年には全曲英語のアルバム『I WANNA MAKE A HIT WIT-CHOO (恋のスマッシュヒット)』をブルックス・アーサーをプロデューサーに迎えアメリカで製作・発表するも出来映えに満足できず、自らの限界を感じてヤマハを離れた。

Sculptures on the facade
The building was designed by architect Pavel Suzor for the Russian branch of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Initially, the management of the Singer Company had ambitions to construct a skyscraper, similar to the Singer Building - company headquarters being built at that time in New York. However, the building code of Saint Peterburg center did not allow structures taller than 23.5 meters (the height of the Winter Palace - tzar's residence). The architect found an elegant solution - the seven story building featured a tower on the top crowned with a glass globe.[1] This tower makes an impression of high rise, but due to its lightness, it doesn't shadow neither the Kazan Cathedral nor the Church of the Savior on Blood. The sculptor was the Estonian Amandus Adamson.

It's really a beautiful piece of hardware... I am hoping it actually works. I am mostly wondering if this is actually rare or not... there are a few on eBay from $70 to $400 (not that I would sell this), as well as some spare parts I might have to buy.
