Simultaneous contrast is most intense when the two colors are complementary colors. Complementary colors are pairs of colors, diametrically opposite on a color circle: as seen in Newton's color circle, red and green, and blue and yellow. Yellow complements blue; mixed yellow and blue lights generate white light.
Fused Plates. Sometimes, snowflakes stick together after colliding mid-air. This results in 12-sided snowflakes if they happen to collide at exactly a 30-degree rotation from one another, with symmetry further enhanced if the tiny plates were exactly the same side. What if there is a size difference, or the two crystals stick together at an odd angle of rotation? You’ll end up with something like this snowflake!
In the very center, we see a tiny splash of colour; thin film interference often becomes visible at the fuse point between plates and usually with a smooth gradient of colours. The rest of the snowflake isn’t so colourful, but it makes up for that with structure. We don’t need to look too far to spot some interesting characteristics!
Take a look at the lower left branch, particularly the outer edge area. Notice the dark spots? These are holes in a ceiling of ice that are quickly being filled in. This can be seen on all of the branches in various forms, which if allowed to keep growing in the same conditions would eventually be completely covered in bubbles.
The bottom branch is a bit odd, too. Why is it longer than the others? This has to do with an unequal share of resources. The central “deformed plate” only ended up with four branches due to early starvations of water vapour; at these unbalanced angles, not every corner gets a chance to grow equally. This left a gap in outward growth precisely where the bottom branch was growing, allowing the bottom branch more building blocks to grow outward faster.
The opposite can be said for the lower right branch, which is slightly shorter. It shared more of it’s building blocks (water vapour) to the extended top plate. The finite resources are simply allocated differently. The presence of the top plate may have also affected the designs of the bottom branches, resulting in subtle changes in topography among all of them.
Sometimes snowflakes grow with a bit of dumb luck, but in the end still have to follow the same basic underlying rules. There is randomness and chaos of the atmosphere, and snowflakes are either constantly growing or sublimating; often both simultaneously. You’ll never find two natural snowflakes to be identical.

Maysville, Kentucky
The men who built the Cox Building, William H. and George L. Cox, also underwrote the construction of a string of seven contiguous brick dwellings built simultaneously with the construction of the Cox Building, and extending south along the east side of Market Street from the Cox Building to Fourth Street.
The scale and audacity of this private undertaking must have been breathtaking to the Maysville residence of the 1800s. Located only three city blocks from the Ohio River, the Cox Building commands some of the highest ground in the business district, from which point its tower rises to share the skyline with the spires of various nearby churches and County Courthouse.
Maysville residents had good reason to be relieved when the Cox family built their new development on Lot 104, between Third Street and Fourth Street. Since at least 1815 this lot across the street from, overlooking, upstream from and upwind from the town market had been used as a tanyard.
Based on the wording of property transfers of 1870 and 1879, it appears that the tanyard closed at some time between those two dates. One of the many newspaper accounts of the dedication of the Cox Building noted,
“In gazing at the handsome 4-story structure at the southeast corner of Third and Market, one can hardly realize that only a year or so ago an old dingy-looking, dilapidated two-story brick occupied the ground. And in passing up Market to Fourth, a stranger would hardly imagine that the space now ornamented by the seven fine brick dwellings was a vacant lot twelve months ago, an “eye-sore” to that part of the city” (Daily Evening Bulletin, February 18, 1887).
The Cox Building was designed by W.R. Brown, a partner in the Cincinnati architectural firm of Crapsey & Brown. The firm headed by Charles Crapsey & William R. Brown was prolific in the 1880s and 1890s and executing commissions throughout the Midwest in the Romanesque and Gothic Revival idioms. The firm was experienced in complex large-scale structures such as churches, fraternal halls, college buildings and city halls.
Posterity is fortunate to have a surviving copy of an 1887 newspaper article that lists all of the contractors and suppliers who worked on the Cox Building (Daily Evening Bulletin, February 18, 1887).
The contractors “broke ground” for these buildings March 1, 1886. Amount of rock in foundation 1350 perch; contractors for same, N.B. Smith & Son and Jno. Powers, of this city. Amount of brick used, 1,400,000, furnished and laid by J.M. Blair & sons, of Cincinnati. Amount of plastering, 24,000 yards; contractor, L.B. Hancock, of Cincinnati. There were 50,000 bushels of sand used in laying the foundations, brick and plastering, all of which was furnished by the Gable brothers of this city. The lime used amounted to 1200 barrels. The framing timbers were furnished by W.B. Mathews & Co., and Collins, Rudy & Co., and the inside finishing by the Maysville Manufacturing Company, of this city. The plumbing, gas, and steam fitting was done by T.J. Curley, and the painting and glazing by Frank Hauck and John Carnahan. The slate roofing – about 200 squares – was put on by James Hunter, of Cincinnati. The gas fixtures throughout all the buildings were furnished by T.J. Curley.
The red stone work was done by David Hummel, of Cincinnati, the stone being brought from Mansfield, Ohio. The stone flagging for the pavements was furnished by Reitz & Co., of Portsmouth, Ohio. The tin was done by Allen, Hall & Co., and Bierbower & Co., and the galvanized iron work by McClanahan & Shea, Lane & Worrick, S.B. Chunn and Wormald & Willett did the carpenter work. J.P. Walton, of Cincinnati, did the iron work and furnished the material for same. Electric call-bells were put in by C.E. jones & Co., of Cincinnati (Daily Evening Bulletin, February 18, 1887)
In a second newspaper article appearing eight days later, under a column entitled, “Masonic Notes,” the craftsmen responsible for the stained glass window appearing in the third floor Third Street Façade are mentioned:
“The memorial window, presented by Mrs. Emily Gray, contains about seven hundred pieces of glass of almost every imaginable color and size and design. It was furnished at the cost of seven hundred dollars through Andrews & co., of Chicago” (Daily Evening Bulletin, February 25, 1887).
The construction was completed in a single year. On Wednesday, February 23, 1887 The Daily Evening Bulletin transcribes an account written at the time the Masonic Temple was dedicated:
A representative of the Bulletin was shown through the Temple Last Saturday afternoon by, Colonel Owens and Judge Coons, two of the most prominent and active Sir Knights of Maysville Commandery. On entering the Temple one is ushered into the reception room immediately at the right on reaching the third floor. It faces Market Street, and is 18 by 15 feet in size.
Adjoining this on the north is the Tyler’s Room, 18 by 20 feet in size. Passing through this, one enters the Asylum. This is the largest room in the Temple. It runs the full length of the building on Third street 73 feet and is 40 feet in width. It is the home of the Commandery. Here the secret conclaves of the Sir Knights are held. At the east end of the room is a platform raised a few feet above the floor. From this stage the Eminent Commander presides over the meetings. On either side are two seats for the Senior and Junior Warden and for distinguished guests. Over the E.C. chair is the inscription, “INRI,” in large jeweled letters. In the center of the Asylum is what is known as the Delta, a table patterned after the Greek letter of that name. It is covered with heavy white fringed black velvet and on it are arranged twelve golden candlesticks. The Delta is used in the secret work of the Order. In the north-east and south-east corners of the Asylum are desks, one for the Recorder and the other for the Treasurer.
The Reception Room, Tyler’s Room, and Asylum are all finely furnished in cherry, with rich velvet-cushioned furniture to correspond, and the floors are all covered with handsome Brussels carpet. The Asylum is lighted by eighty-three gas jets, most of them from a large chandelier suspended from the center of the ceiling. The Scene Room is south of the Asylum and occupies a somewhat central part of the floor. It is surrounded by a seven- foot hallway. Its dimensions are 21×13 feet. In it are kept the paraphernalia used in the secret work of the order. The Blue Lodge Room is found in the south-east corner of the third floor, and is 48×30 feet in size. The Worshipful Master’s chair is on an elevation at the east end, the senior Warden’s at the west end and the Junior Warden’s at the south side, midway. An alter occupies the middle of the room. It is heavily cushioned with deep blue velvet and is surrounded by a rest, likewise cushioned, for persons in kneeling posture. This room is finished in ancient oak. The furniture corresponds and is cushioned in deep blue velvet. The Asylum and Blue Lodge Room are connected by folding doors with the hallway that surrounds the Scene Room, and also with the main hallway.”
On the fourth floor is the banquet room, dimensions 100×23 feet, arranged to accommodate about 300 people at one time, the kitchen, pantry and china closet. In the foregoing an accurate description has not been attempted. It is merely an outline. There are a number of hallways, anti-rooms, vaults etc, that have not been mentioned, and which are difficult to describe. No expense was spared in making the Temple one of the handsomest in its finish and the most complete in its every arrangement in the state.
The city of Maysville purchased the building in 2006 for $200,000 and has since been working diligently in bringing the building back to its original grandeur. All in which came to a crashing halt on November 9th 2010 when a fire almost destroyed the building.
The roof, 4th and 5th floors were totally destroyed by fire. Since that time, the city has worked diligently in bringing this building back to life.

In this case, I think I just got lucky... I had no idea that, when this hot air balloon began to rise, there would be the silhouette of a woman behind it. I can only really take credit for being ready, with a camera in my hand and an exposure already dialed in.

After the NGRF's simultaneous attacks on numerous North American Union (NAU) embassies, the Union was finally prompted to enter into the war. The Panthera was their first full production VCS but not far behind it was the Lanius.
The Lanius is one of the very few Variable VCS (VVCS) units. It was designed to be a VCS unit that could be deployed from aircraft carriers to strike at long-distance targets. The Lanius is comparable to the URE's Shrike II, but more heavily armored at the cost of maneuverability in VCS mode. It is capable of carrying a variety of different ordnance, in addition to different weapons for use in VCS mode. It has seen success in making strikes on NGRF trade routes in the Mediterranean, as well as attacking coastal targets in Italy and the Balkan Peninsula.
This is the result of a longstanding urge to build a decent jetformer that transforms into something more reminiscent of an actual jet than stuff like the Shrike II. This transforms entirely without removing parts aside from the missiles & guns. I'm very happy with the jet mode but the amount of kibble on the robot mode's back could be better. I also wish that I could have made the cockpit accessible in both forms, but as it stands it only works in the robot mode. The bottom of the model doesn't look too bad in jet mode, although the head is still pretty visible. The Lanius does feature working landing gear, and the front one even has an opening hatch accompanying it!

Most macro photographers consider 1:1 magnification as the definition of "real" macro photography which means that every time you take a shot with the macro lens and it isn't at the minimum focusing distance (ie 1:1) - it in fact isn't a real macro photo though most still consider it a "macro photo". Kinda weird with the clashing definitions really.
Using adapters, tubes or specialty lenses, it is of course possible to get closer, but at the same time you tend to need to come closer to the subject, meaning most high-mag shots are of smaller critters who don't have the common sense to get away from the huge lens being pushed up their nose.
Here is one of those times when I got really lucky though. This is a Laphria flava robber fly, one of the larger flies in Sweden and a powerful predator - just have a look at that tubular rostrum which they punch into their victims before injecting a venom which simultaneously dissolves their insides.
I am always very excited every time I see one of these (not that often), but this time I had the Canon MP-E65mm lens on the camera - a lens that *begins* at 1:1 and goes all the way to 5:1. This meant that I had to sneak up real close to the fly to get it in focus. At 1:1 it focuses at 101 mm (just under 4") which I somehow managed without it flying off so I increased the magnification and got even closer. This shot is at 2.2:1 magnification which means the front of the lens was about 60 mm (~2.4") from the fly's face.
Also, at f/9.5, the depth of field here is about 0.5 mm.

Subject
The subject is a freshly made (and eventually tasty) peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was shot for simultaneous entry into the FlickrFridays "InBetween" challenge and Macro Monday's "Bread" challenge. The sandwich was constructed by laying alternating lines of natural creamy peanut butter (with a knife) and concord grape jelly (with a plastic-bag piping rig). It is resting on a black napkin draped over a kitchen mortar. The bread is one of the Nature's Own whole grain varieties.
Lens
Vivitar 70-210 Macro-Focusing Zoom, an older manual focus lens which reaches 1:1 macro when set to 210mm and focused as close as possible. It's my only KA* mount lens that has 1:1 macro natively.
Why not just use macro tubes? The A-setting on the aperture ring is required to get my K-50 to enable Wireless Controller Mode for the flash. This allowed me to use both of my AF540FGZ flashes without having to have a cable connection to one of them.
Why not use reversed-lens macro? While reversing a second lens onto a lens with an A-setting on the aperture ring would retain flash flexibility, I wanted a deeper depth of field than that would provide.
Because it is a legacy lens without the newer digital information pins, the EXIF entry for focal-length is based on the options set by the camera. The camera has no setting for 210mm, so the EXIF data shows 200mm.
Lighting
Two Pentax AF540FGZ strobes plus some ambient sunlight through a window. The fill was off-angle behind a diffusing umbrella. The key was very close to the subject and aimed directly at the line of sandwich filling, but with a snap-on diffuser. The only part of the image significantly lit by the sun is the background. The background is actually a black umbrella rotating in my hands. When the umbrella was still, the metal supports contributed unwanted lines to the shot. Rotating the umbrella and slowing the shutter allowed for a black blur.
Why not just increase the shutter speed to black out the background? Well, the built-in flash on the K-50 can't trigger HSS so the maximum shutter speed was 1/180 and did not eliminate the background. I would have had to have run one of the flashes on a cable to achieve HSS, but the strobes were both too far from the camera to use my short cable. The donor cable for my DIY cable extender was still in the mail, so I didn't have it in time for this shot.

EDIT 8/16/2018: Looking back, this clearly isn't a 1:1 macro. Simple math should have shown me this. The lens markings are unclear and this was early "macro" work for me. I got it wrong. I think photo still fits the rules of the challenge, but I want to apologize for my unintentionally misleading description above.

My initial motivation to take up photography was to document the things I saw on a daily basis. It's interesting because it underscores my initial assumption that photography is mainly a documentary medium.
However, with practice and time, I've modified that view; the genius of photography is its ability to capture a unique moment of reality. Of course, every photographer knows this concept as Cartier-Bresson's "Decisive Moment". This modification has not only enriched my perspective on the nature of photography, but also greatly enhanced my creative process. This maturation would never have happened so quickly without the benefit of the great photographers on flickr. The digital age has not only allowed me to snap thousands of photos with little cost, but it has allowed me to learn from some awesome photographers and I guess this is my way of saying thanks. Thanks!

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).
The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. The surrounding area is contained within the Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

This weekend the Los Angeles Environmental Education Fair was held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. The 'Wildlife Waystation" was there with "Tumbleeweed" the Great Horned Owl ! see wildlifewaystation.org/animals/species/owl-great-horned
I took the opportunity of taking TWO "selfies" simultaneously - reflected in "Tumbleweed's" eyes !!
This is a pod of Orcas surfacing simultaneously in the Johnstone Strait off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island. When the dorsal fins appear at the surface they remind me of an unfolding Swiss Army Knife. Each of the animals in this group will be blood relatives. The enormous triangular fins are adult males and the smaller curved fins are females and young animals. The males will wander off to mate with females in other pods, and males from other pods will do the same with this pod. But the males always return to the pod with their mothers. This group are known as "Residents", but despite the name they do wander in search of their prey. They specialise in fish feeding, mainly salmon, and hunt these cooperatively by herding shoals before stunning them by whacking their tails into the shoals. The other "ecotype" look similar but specialise in hunting sea mammals like dolphins and seals. They are known as "Transients" because they wander more widely than the "Residents". The two ecotypes never interbreed and probably have not done so for 30,000 years. Orca are found all around the planet and several other ecotypes occur.
The clouds, the sea waves, the lights and the rocks, all the simultaneous elements came together and composed the "Darkness Harmony". I am happy that I was there! Have a beautiful Sunday my good friends!

The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidate’s life.
Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.
Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New York—embedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.
His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) live—symbols of “the order America built.”
Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.
Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.
Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: “We will never bow to terror.”
Among the crowd, Rafi’s operatives have already taken their positions.
As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasser—once Rafi’s comrade, haunted by the memory of his sister’s death in Gaza—tries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.
But Rafi’s conviction remains unshaken.
Under the twilight beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, amid the city’s fading noise, the two men part ways.

The gate was built between 1380 and 1425 as part of the second city wall. The whole wall was completed around 1450. The gate was attacked in 1427 during the siege of the city. This attack was repelled.
The gate was opened and closed every day by the appointed raddraaiers, "wheel-turners". A minimum of twelve wheel-turners were collected morning and evening by several guards. It was an extremely dangerous task; if they did not begin walking simultaneously, then one could fall, dragging the rest along with often fatal results. Before the gate could come down, it had to be raised, to pull out the iron pins that held it in place. Only then could it come down. While the gate was going down, walking in the wheel grew ever easier and faster, and many people stumbled and broke their limbs. The koppelpoort was also never breached.
The Koppelpoort was given its current appearance during the restoration by Pierre Cuypers in 1885 and 1886. Among other things, Cuypers removed a step between the two gates and replaced it with a slope.
From 1969 to 1993 a puppet theater was situated in the gate.
The latest restoration was completed in 1996. It was carried out very cautiously, and with respect for the old building materials. For this the town of Amersfoort received the Europa Nostra Award.

北朝鮮の仮想通貨システムをハッキングし、数億ドルを奪取したガザ出身のパレスチナ人グループが、アメリカ合衆国へ密かに潜入する。
彼らの目的は、失われた祖国ガザを、アメリカの地に「復元」することだった。
共和党による強硬な移民政策と、国内にくすぶる排外感情を利用し、アメリカ社会を内側から崩壊させる計画が静かに進行していく。
共和党大統領候補ジャスティン・ブラッドフォードがマディソン・スクエア・ガーデンで演説中に狙撃され、ほぼ同時刻、ロサンゼルスでは前大統領オーウェン・リードもまた、民主党候補ライアン・ベネットの集会で撃たれる。

MARIANA ISLANDS RANGE COMPLEX, Guam (Aug. 30, 2022) EA-18G Growlers from the "Star Warriors" of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 209, simultaneously fire two AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) during a training exercise near Guam. The AGM-88 HARM is a tactical air-to-surface missile which finds and destroys threat radar air defense systems. Supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific and operating out of Andersen Air Force Base on the "Forward Edge" while utilizing the Marianas Islands Range Complex, VAQ-209's live-fire exercise provided valuable training to ordnance personnel and aircrew alike. As the US Military's only Reserve EA-18G squadron, VAQ-209 is currently forward deployed to Japan and operating across the Indo-Pacific as the expeditionary VAQ squadron currently assigned to Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70. Located on New Zealand's South Island within Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is a World Heritage site. Receiving 250 inches of rain a year, is it also one of the rainiest places on Earth. The long, narrow bay is surrounded by sheer cliffs from peaks rising up to 5,000 feet. When it rains, dozens of waterfalls pour water into the sea.
We took a boat 15 km from the end of the bay out to the Tasman Sea and saw seals and dolphins. It was raining lightly, better I think than seeing the place on a sunny day.
It is an astonishing place, simultaneously haunting and beautiful, a place that will stay long in my memory. If I had one place on earth to return to, this would be it.

I came upon these two Vivid Dancer Damselflies mating. The female was simultaneously laying her newly fertilized eggs one at a time, only this time on top of a Canada Goose feather.
I couldn't let that happen. They waited at least two or three years - maybe more - for their one opportunity to mate and give next year's Vivid Dancers a fighting chance. The dancers usually lay their eggs under water, often attaching them individually to a blade of pond grass. They were in this position for more than two minutes. That's a lot of potential dancers that aren't going to make it. What to do?
I picked up a good sized pebble, took careful aim, and tossed it into the pond in the upper left. It made just enough of a splash to get them to fly off to a nearby spot and, still attached, continued the progeny production process, P³ !
I continued watching as any experienced Odonata voyeur would, and when they perched on one of the beautiful boulders in the stream, I got a decent image which I'll post tomorrow morning before we go to see our kids (who we haven't seen since February).

Trova music was born in Cuba and Yucatan simultaneously at the end of the 19th Century. At the time, Yucatecan exports of sisal fibre made it necessary for Yucatan and Cuba to be in close connection by ship. Yesterday's concert drew on the double heritage of trova, as musicians from Cuba and Yucatan performed together songs composed along the two sides of the Yucatan Strait.

After the NGRF's simultaneous attacks on numerous North American Union (NAU) embassies, the Union was finally prompted to enter into the war. The Panthera was their first full production VCS but not far behind it was the Lanius.
The Lanius is one of the very few Variable VCS (VVCS) units. It was designed to be a VCS unit that could be deployed from aircraft carriers to strike at long-distance targets. The Lanius is comparable to the URE's Shrike II, but more heavily armored at the cost of maneuverability in VCS mode. It is capable of carrying a variety of different ordnance, in addition to different weapons for use in VCS mode. It has seen success in making strikes on NGRF trade routes in the Mediterranean, as well as attacking coastal targets in Italy and the Balkan Peninsula.
This is the result of a longstanding urge to build a decent jetformer that transforms into something more reminiscent of an actual jet than stuff like the Shrike II. This transforms entirely without removing parts aside from the missiles & guns. I'm very happy with the jet mode but the amount of kibble on the robot mode's back could be better. I also wish that I could have made the cockpit accessible in both forms, but as it stands it only works in the robot mode. The bottom of the model doesn't look too bad in jet mode, although the head is still pretty visible. The Lanius does feature working landing gear, and the front one even has an opening hatch accompanying it!

I did a shoot last evening with two delightful ladies, Sinika and Karin. One of the props I brought along was bubbles. I easily envisioned how cool bubbles floating around the field would look but the reality was that the slightest breeze carried them immediately away such that they were barely capturable in the frame and getting two bubble wands in tandem to produce even, simultaneous streams of bubbles was nigh impossible. Who knew? Lessons learned. :)

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).
The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. MARIANA ISLANDS RANGE COMPLEX, Guam (Aug. 30, 2022) - EA-18G Growlers from the "Star Warriors" of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 209, simultaneously fire two AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) during a training exercise near Guam. The AGM-88 HARM is a tactical air-to-surface missile which finds and destroys threat radar air defense systems. Supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific and operating out of Andersen Air Force Base on the "Forward Edge" while utilizing the Marianas Islands Range Complex, VAQ-209's live-fire exercise provided valuable training to ordnance personnel and aircrew alike. As the US Military's only Reserve EA-18G squadron, VAQ-209 is currently forward deployed to Japan and operating across the Indo-Pacific as the expeditionary VAQ squadron currently assigned to Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70. Polyrhythm is when two rhythms simultaneously play. This occurs a lot in African dance. However, you rarely see only one person dancing. Typically African dance is performed as a group. The drum is a symbol of life and is the heartbeat to which the community dances to. What about those people who don't feel like a part of the group? Those who live in their own world? In this image you see a girl in the center representing life, and two more faded figures of her representing the second rhythm, or the second life in this photo. This singular girl created her own world and like so many others, dances with her to find her own sense of community. She leads a double life: her first life is her present self in the mix of the community. Her second life is her real unique being, in her self-made community where she doesn’t have to hide her ideas.

I followed the Tinted Bleached Effect tutorial from Skeletal Mess (see link on my last post) for this image and once I found a pleasing tone, I moved the slider in the Layers palette to the left very slowly till I had introduced the amount of color back into the image that I liked. Then I applied the Mossy Green texture once at soft light probably around 50%. Then I applied it a couple of times more at Multiply to create the background you see. I used the eraser, after each application, on the bloom since multiply is pretty strong.
