John Simpson Kirkpatrick, a stretcher bearer whose brief life ended early in the Gallipoli campaign, is better known today as 'the man with the donkey'. One of the AIF's most well-known figures, Simpson was, like many of his comrades, an Englishman. Born on 6 July 1892 at Shields in County Durham, he joined the merchant marine at the age of 17 and began a life of wandering that eventually led him to Australia.
Simpson tried his hand at all manner of jobs. He carried a swag, worked as a cane cutter, a ship's hand and a coalminer, experiencing life in many parts of Australia. However distant from his mother and sister, Simpson made sure that they received a generous percentage of whatever pay he was able to earn. On 25 August 1914, shortly after the First World War began, he enlisted in the AIF and began training at Blackboy Hill camp near Perth. His motivation for enlisting, it appears, had more to do with the prospect of returning to England than with any particular desire to be a soldier.
Like many who shared his reason for joining, Simpson was disappointed when the first Australian soldiers bound for the war were disembarked for training in Egypt. Having been posted to the 3rd Field Ambulance, he was among those who landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Though a stretcher bearer, Simpson decided his task could be better accomplished using a donkey to carry his wounded charges.
Just three weeks after the landing, Simpson was killed by a Turkish bullet during one of his morning journeys up Monash Valley to retrieve wounded men. Widely believed to have already achieved a measure of fame during his brief time at the front, it now appears more likely that the Simpson legend only grew after his death. Peter Cochrane, in his 1992 book Simpson and the donkey, outlines the way in which Simpson's story was used for a range of propaganda and political purposes, particularly as manpower crises threatened to undermine the AIF's fighting ability during the war.
Cochrane, having demonstrated the extent to which embellishment and sometimes outright falsehoods have served to obscure the real Simpson, described a man who was as flawed as any other, but whose bravery is not disputed. He remains, nevertheless, one of the most famous of the men who served at Anzac. His fame is all the more interesting for the fact that, unlike other celebrated figures from the campaign, such as Jacka, Simpson was a non-combatant. In the intervening decades there have been calls for Simpson to be awarded a retrospective Victoria Cross and, although he won no medals at Gallipoli, Simpson is commemorated in paintings and with a prominent bronze sculpture at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

At about 2am on May 21, 2009, some idiot in a pickup truck drove over a curb, a concrete barrier/garden and a steel bench into the front windows of 637 Simpson, an unoccupied storefront with apartments above. The building sustained major damage. The driver of the truck fled, and the police seized the truck. You can read more here.
Tire tracks going through the decorative garden! This garden is about eight inches higher than the road surface! The truck went over this, took out a bench and hit the building.

29-year-old Mark Simpson is originally from Dromara, County Down, but has lived in south Belfast for over 10 years, where he chairs the local Green Party constituency group.
Having joined the party with the hope of helping to build a Northern Ireland that values people and planet over profit, his priorities are improved public transport and reduced traffic congestion, more energy efficient housing and a reduction in the amount of Belfast’s waste sent to expensive landfill sites.
A graduate of the Queen’s University School of Law, Mark worked as a journalist for six years before returning to Queen’s, where he is currently studying for an LLM in Environmental Law and Sustainable Development.
In his spare time, he studies modern languages through the Open University and enjoys walking, cooking and music.

In July 2007, convenience store chain 7-Eleven converted 11 of its stores in the United States and one in Canada into Kwik-E-Marts for promotion of The Simpsons Movie, which was released worldwide on July 27, 2007. The promotion had long been rumored, but the locations were kept a secret until the morning of July 1, when the 12 stores were made over with industrial foam.

to sea damaging boats at the docks behind. I have been following this boat for over the years and am glad that I caught it again on my last visit to Port Simpson on Oct 26 2011

Los Simpson (que significa ‘hijo de simplón’), es una serie estadounidense de comedia de dibujos animados, que narra el día a día de una familia de clase media en un pequeño pueblo de ese país. Creada para la Fox por Matt Gröening, que nombró a los personajes con el nombre real de los miembros de su familia, menos el suyo propio, que lo cambió por Bart (anagrama de ‘Brat’, que significa ‘pobre hombre"). Springfield, el nombre del pueblo de la serie, queda indeterminado, pues hay docenas de municipios con ese nombre en EEUU. Sus personajes son amarillos porque los primeros bocetos fueron dibujados sobre un "post-it" de ese color y se vio que sobre un papel blanco perdía la gracia. Todos los personajes tienen 4 dedos, salvo Dios y Jesucristo, que aparecen con 5. En la versión para Arabia Saudí se bebe gaseosa en lugar de cerveza y comen salchichas que no llevan cerdo en lugar de perritos calientes.
Es una sátira de la sociedad estadounidense y de la sociedad en general, a través de una familia disfuncional con situaciones hilarantes, la mayoría con un punto de realidad. Su estilo artístico y sentido del humor ha convertido la familia de esta serie en la más famosa de EEUU que, con cerca de 700 episodios y 31 temporadas (años), es la más duradera en su historia. La revista TIME eligió a su protagonista como una de las personas más influyentes del siglo 20. En España se emitió por primera vez en 1991 en TVE1.

I thought I was a simpsons fan, until I realized I didn't know the names of most of the characters. for example, who is that old guy in the freezer?
