I. Love. Tucks.

I have this absolutely demented impulse to make this out of one of those bias-stripe prints that seem to be popular right now. I'd piece and book-match the bodice and skirt, so the tucks would make the stripes form zig-zags. Gah!

Simplicity 2508, with extra flare added in the seams.

A few weeks ago I bought a Olympus E-PL3. A small camera with interchangeable lenses, and with the right adapter even suitable to take photo's with old M42 and Minolta lenses. I didn't expect to like it this much... what a great little camera! It has even a nickname... Sir Ollie!

I tried some new photography, some more simple photo's. And damn... that's hard to do!! Please press "L" for a better view.

I used Simplicity #1692, a modern re-released pattern, to make this casual and comfy vintage 1940's blouse. With a 100% cotton M'Liss print from Hancock Fabrics as the fabric, there is also a burnt orange cotton broadcloth as the lining. My grading for this blouse was quite radical, as I wanted to slim down the bust for my petite chest, but widen the too small waist and hips. I also eliminated 1 1/2 inches out of the front neckline gathers. There is an old rosebud-shaped button from hubby's grandmother closing the back neck. Posting pattern review and blog post shortly...

For now, this is the front yoke detail shot for a dress I have wanted to sew since last summer. Now it is too cold to wear it! Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity pattern 2584. I did not line the yoke, and instead piped it -- which may have lost some of the sharpness of the yoke corners -- but I am still pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Here's the pattern review. And it's blogged here.

No. 3506. No date, but envelope style appears to be early 1940s, based on helpful pattern dating guidelines - cemetarian.com/Dating_Sewing_Patterns.php

I try to remember simplicity is my goal as I rearrange my things in the newly renovated suite. I also try to remember simplicity is not an impossible goal even though the suite is only 328 square feet in size and both Tessa and Sole arrived with a lot of baggage. ;)

Simplicity 2891..my 2nd top from this pattern & 3rd top made for my trip to Japan. I find it ironic that I will be wearing this outfit with fabric from Japan.

I made my normal broadback adjustment & enlarged the armhole. I originally had sleeves in it, but the fabric actually made it hot (as we have had hot weather lately - similar to Japan), so I decided to remove the sleeves.

The dress has a fitted bodice with lowered round neckline and a gathered full overskirt and underskirt. It has a back zipper clsoing. The lower edge of the overskirt is scalloped. The underskirt in view's 2 & 3 contrast the overskirt and bodice. View 1 & 2 have short, set-in sleeves. view 3 is sleeveless. Tie belt is featured for view's 2 & 3.
