Fabric:
Fashion Fabric - Textured Knit
Underlining - Polyester Interlock
Description: Misses bias cut dress
I was inspired to do this dress by all of the baby doll and trapeze shapes that were on the RTW runway for Spring '07. Also, I saw that my blogging buddy Chanel over at Hip Candy had refashioned a black mini and I knew that I had to have one too.
I had had this pattern in my stash for months, but it was something about it that just didn't 'pop' for me. After I saw an array of babydolls hit the runway, I decided that this pattern had potential. I did a few modifications to get the look that I wanted.
With the fabric I chose, it was quite flimsy and transparent, so I underlined it with polyester interlock so I wouldn't have to be bothered with wearing a slip.I trimmed the front and back neckband by an inch off of the top so that I could achieve more of a scooped neck which is much more flattering (on me) than the original.Instead of using the suggested gathers in the center, I decided to use pleats instead... again more flattering on me.I cut the dress in a size 14 and gradually brought it out to a size 18, below the waist for more of an a-line cut.I cut the bottom off 4 inches so that it would be an actual mini-dress.This is a very simple and easy to complete pattern... it took a whole 2 hours to finish! I give this one "the thumbs up"!
Childs/girls robe/housecoat, bed jacket, pants, pjs. The robe in view 1 & 2 and top in view 3 with about wrist-length raglan sleeves and high round neckline has front closing fastened with either buttons or decorative snap fasteners and an optional pocket. View 1 & 2 are ankle-length. View 1 has a mandarin-type collar and ribbon bow. Collarless view 2 has lace edging trim. Collarless view with braid trim has contrasting pants without side seams and with an elastic waitline casing.

I used a linen/wool/elastane bland which I bought at GJs in Melbourne several years ago. It doesn't iron well :( but other than that it's the perfect skirt for both summer and winter.

Half-slips V. 4, 5 & 6 have lingerie elastic at waistline. Mini-length V. 1 & 4 feature crochet type lace edging. V. 2, 3, 5 & 6 with lace edging trim have slit openings in side seams. I used a linen/rayon blend to make up this skirt. One of the easier patterns I've used - a quick and simple project!
Simplicity 2418, made by Katie. The fabric is polyester charmeuse, which was the devil to cut and sew, especially as it is cut on the bias. More to see on my blog - Kadiddlehopper
