A gold wedding ring and a silver pocket watch signifying a timeless union.

Took this dramatic image Mid Afternoon yesterday of an approaching storm arriving from the Irish Sea on the North Wales Coast - two miles distant over the North Easterly village of Rhyd y Foel using a Tamron 28-300MM lens.

Ten minutes later, the clouds were overhead - creating squally conditions with heavy rain and hailstones falling - indicative of this type of cloud.

Towering Cumulonimbus Clouds are a type of Cumulus Cloud associated with thunderstorms and heavy precipitation - producing rain, hail, thunder and lightning. They are formed beneath 20,000ft - are relatively close to the ground and the reason they have so much moisture.

Incoming on a North Westerly airstream, they would have continued gathering much moisture when crossing the Irish Sea before making land.

Europe; Holland; Waddeneilanden; Texel; Dunes; Stairs; Slufter; People; North Sea (uncut)

The Texel(Tessel) ferry crossing (from Den Helder) is spectacular but short. After arrival at 't Horntje one encounters a landscape that isn’t significally different from the landscape type that’s dominant in North Holland. But when you arrive at the spectacular ‘Slufter’ things change. It’s a zone where, very uncharacteriscally, the fight with the sea ended in a draw, resulting in an open and ever changing landscape that’s comparible with the Ria Formosa coastal parque in the Sotavento (Algarve, South Portugal), although the Ria Formosa is much bigger, it covers the entire coast of the Sotavento.

More about the Slufter: its a part of the Texel coast that’s in open connection with the North Sea. After a number of failed attempts to transform the area by ‘inpoldering’ (building a dike around it, drain it and turn it into an agricultural zone), at the beginning of the 20th century it was decided to let nature do its thang. The area consists of a creek system with wetlands that sometimes submerges after a storm or exceptionally high tide. Characteristic is the ‘kwelder’vegetation with plants like salt melt, sea lily, and the lamb’s ear (lam’s oor – a not very well known salty delicacy). The sea lily turns the area purple during the summer. The majority of De Slufter has the formal status of a hatching and resting area for birds - so only the southern part of the Slufter is freely accessible.

XMAS is still a month away, but Thanksgiving always signifies the time I shoot my yearly holiday photo with my pet. I did it every year with Lucy, and now I am starting the tradition with Monkey. Today was that day, though it is one day before Thanksgiving, I took advantage of bringing Monkey to school when the student population would be void. Everyone's home for the holiday. Yeah - a quiet campus! So with Monkey in her grey cashmere sweater, and me in my polyester sweater (I know, not even I have cashmere) I put up the backdrop and asked my coworker to shoot me with my camera. Can I just say those lessons from America's Next Top Model paid off. PROJECT THROUGH THE EYES, GIVE THE CAMERA ANGLES TO WORK WITH, and above all WORK IT!!!

May showers signify that the hot, dry season is getting ready to depart, replaced by the hot and wet season. Today's 20 minutes of rain was only a shower and just enough to dampen the sand and dust. I have a feeling that this year's wet season may be long and intense...just a feeling in my aged bones.

The photo has been cropped, hence the lack of details. It was also used to get an actuation count for my Nikon D7500...a count of almost 15,000...still a young camera. Maybe, I should get busy.

. The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America. The Bald Eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless. Bald eagles are found throughout most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. About half of the world's 70,000 bald eagles live in Alaska. Combined with British Columbia's population of about 20,000, the northwest coast of North America is by far their greatest stronghold for bald eagles.

There are two subspecies of Bald Eagles. The "southern" Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus leucocephalus, is found in the Gulf States from Texas and Baja California across to South Carolina and Florida, south of 40 degrees north latitude. The "northern" Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus alascanus, is found north of 40 degrees north latitude across the entire continent. The largest numbers of northern bald eagles are in the Northwest, especially in Alaska. The "northern" Bald Eagle is slightly larger than the "southern" Bald Eagle. Studies have shown that "northern" Bald Eagles fly into the southern states and Mexico, and the "southern" Bald Eagles fly north into Canada. Because of these finding, the subspecies of "northern" and "southern" Bald Eagles has been discontinued in recent literature.

To signify deep mourning, Santa Maria de Betania of Paete, Laguna is dressed in Black Italian Satin. The vestment is embellished with dramatic trompe l' oeil painting. Trompe l'oeil is a French term which literally means " to deceive the eye ". It is a style of painting in which subjects are depicted with almost three dimensional or photographically realistic details.

The painting for the vestment simulates the Spanish Baroque embroideries and the tedious technique implied different shades of gold and amber to replicate the gold threads of the Baroque inspirations . For full effect and detail, the handpainting is further enhanced with precious beadwork meticulously sewn by hand. Beadings consist of graduating sizes of champagne pearls , glass beads and rose cut Austrian Crystals added a great addition to this vestment design.

To convey our family's grief for the loss of a beloved Aunt, we opted to shroud the countenance of Maria de Betania with French Lace and Illusion tulle on the night of the procession.

Like a prison camp, Lennox Castle became a prison for thousands of people declared as "mentally deficient". Now it lies in ruins, perhaps with one snowdrop signifying every previous inmate.

“Your head is all full of broken bottles once you realise that you don’t belong.”

Lennox Castle, in Lennoxtown, Dunbartonshire, was less of a mental institution than a warehouse, where those deemed society’s misfits were deposited.

Truants, unmarried mothers, wayward teenagers and children with learning difficulties, Down’s syndrome or mental illness all ended up there.

They were starved, drugged, -physically and emotionally abused and robbed of their humanity.

Part of the castle grounds now house Celtic’s training ground, opened in 2007. Players come and go, oblivious to what went on just decades before.

Marie regularly ran away. She was not the only one.

Those who did were chased by dogs through the surrounding woods. When returned, they were locked up for six weeks, placed on a mattress on the floor, drugged and forbidden visitors.

Punishments included being dressed in a knee-length white -nightshirt and being forced to scrub the floors with a toothbrush.

For misdemeanours, patients would be made to sit in a nightdress at a table in the corridor and eat bread and milk.

Not that mealtimes were much better for the rest.

Marie says: “The patients would sit with a plate and the staff would throw a pie at them, like it was feeding time at the zoo.”

One relative of a patient said he was horrified when he saw bread being thrown at his brother, like they were feeding birds.

In December 1989, a study in the British Medical Journal found a quarter of patients in Lennox Castle were grossly underweight and malnourished.

Marie had been placed in the hospital when she went off the rails, drinking and smoking and staying out.

She was diagnosed with a learning difficulty and her parents were assured Lennox Castle was the best place for her.

Marie says: “I was no different from thousands of other teenagers. I knew there was nothing wrong with me and if I hadn’t been strong in my mind, I would have gone crazy.”

Many were drugged and became institutionalised, making it almost impossible to break free.

Psychiatrists eventually admitted Marie had no learning difficulties and she was released but her ordeal wasn’t quite over.

Four years later, aged 39, she had a son, Joseph, to a former worker at the hospital.

But she had to fight to keep him and social workers visited her up to three times a day until they recognised she was a fit mother.

Spring often signifies change & this year was no different as I, after having complained (reasonably) about Barbie needing to step it u in the past, have never wanted more dolls from the brand. The new wave of fashionistas might lack articulation but the fashions are on and their DIVERSITY is the best in my memory. I've never in my life seen an albino fashion doll (fight me on it if you must but to me this desiree mold is a girl with albinism) and from the moment I saw her I know she needed to be mine.

I was so fortunate to find both her & the super dark girl from this wave earlier this week at my local Walmart. Both still need names and I'm searching for just the right pale body for my lovely blonde but even without either the two have me hooked and now my heart is set on grabbing up more of their friends in the future (my poor Wallet!) .

( I also took a shot from the selfie perspective & will have a link of it on my tumblr later this week ;3)

The Full Moon of May is known as Flower Moon to signify the flowers that bloom during this month. Native Americans called it Budding Moon, Egg Laying Moon, and Planting Moon.

The Anglo-Saxon name for May’s brightest Moon phase is Milk Moon from the Old English Rimilcemona. It means three-milkings-month in modern English because cows were milked three times a day during this time of year. The Celtic and Old English names are Mothers’ Moon, Bright Moon, Hare Moon, and Grass Moon.

Many wildflowers bloom in May in the Northern Hemisphere, where these traditional Full Moon names originated. For example, many types of anemone, wild garlic, indigo, bluebells, lupine, sundrops, and violets, to name just a few. It is no wonder that the colourful displays these flowers create in nature have inspired people to call this time after them.

St Mary's Church stands on the site of a thirteenth-century Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It has strong links to both the town of Newmarket and the horse racing community. The church is an active town centre parish church with a friendly congregation, serving the people of Newmarket and district and worshipping in the Anglican Catholic tradition.

The town of Newmarket was part of the parish of Exning until the sixteenth century but there has been a chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary on this site from the thirteenth century. The present building was rebuilt and extended on the south side in the fifteenth century but most of what we see now is the result of a series of major reconstructions carried out in 1857, 1867 and 1887.

In this Victorian period the north transept was converted into an aisle, the chancel was completely rebuilt and a new vestry was added alongside it. The tower is fifteenth century with a slim shingled spire set well back from the parapet and has a separate bellcote on one corner.

Bracing for the Future

"Braces" have perhaps become a right of passage for kids. Yet those braces carry significance that should not be overlooked. They are a sign of care and financial commitment by the parents of the child. They signify planning for the future. They are creating space for something good to happen. They are a lesson that short-term pain can produce long-term gain. Braces have their place as a unique and important experience in childhood.

"Pastels" to my mind signifies illustration with some manipulation of a photograph. The image posed today is an illustration from a macro image of a live fly. The pastel shades on the wings are due to thin film interference (like the colours on an oil film). The colours on the body, somewhat paler in this illustration, are due to complex nano structures on the surface of the exoskeleton. A Dipterist will tell you the family from the pattern of wing veins. There was a time when books were filled with pen and water-colour illustrations of insects and flowers, hand-drawn with love by artists. It surprises me that no one is doing books now with illustrations from actual photographs, which must be more accurate, but are also works of art that show essential identification features more clearly in the same way.

Facts:

Bald eagle nests are about 5 to 6 feet in diameter and 2 to 4 feet tall.

An eagle can see something the size of a rabbit at more than three miles away.

Females are bigger than males. Male bald eagles weigh 25 percent less than females.

Typical wingspan is between 1.8 and 2.3 m (5 ft 11 in and 7 ft 7 in)

Their talons are 3 to 4 inches long – the same length as a grizzly bear's claws.

I am beyond excited to share with you all that I have just photographed my first Formica rufa ant of the year! This little red forest ant not only signifies the beginning of spring but also marks the start of my photographic season. As I embark on another journey capturing the beauty of nature, let me share some fascinating trivia about Formica rufa with you all!

🐜 Formica rufa, also known as the red wood ant or European red ant, is a species of ant that can be found in coniferous and deciduous forests across Europe and parts of Asia. They are known for their reddish-brown color and large, distinctive anthills.

🌱 These ants play a vital role in their ecosystems by preying on various insects, which helps maintain a balanced population of pests. In fact, one colony can consume up to 100,000 insects a day!

🏰 The anthills constructed by Formica rufa can be quite impressive, reaching up to 6.5 feet (2 meters) in height and housing around 100,000 to 400,000 ants! These mound-like structures are made up of twigs, leaves, and pine needles, which helps insulate the colony from extreme temperatures.

🌞 Formica rufa ants are known to be sun-worshippers! They often bask in the sun to regulate their body temperature, and the anthills are designed in a way to capture and retain solar heat.

These ants are also known for their cooperative behavior. They form "living bridges" by linking their bodies together to help their fellow ants cross gaps or reach higher places.

So, the next time you spot a Formica rufa ant, remember that you're witnessing one of nature's most fascinating and important creatures. Stay tuned for more updates on my photographic journey as I explore the beauty of spring and the wonders of the natural world! 🌼🍃

I took a photo just like this last year (see it here) when I went on a fall camping trip around the same time. Being from Miami, I haven't seen many fall colors in my days, so when I have the opportunity to see them I take it. The colors weren't peaked but we still had an amazing time. This photo in many ways signifies how when I look back at my life and where I've come in the past few years, I am utterly amazed at what God has done in my life and how much it's changed because of Him in college. For most of my life I knew God was real and knew we were meant to know Him personally and that He loved us, but I was surrounded my legalism and false religion. I was told you shouldn't do this or that and if you do these things, God will be happy with you and you'll go to heaven. I was told all the ways I could "reach" God, yet I feel no one was actually able to do it. That's because it's impossible, He's perfect and we're not - but the beautiful thing is God doesn't ask us to reach Him, He stepped down off of His perfect throne in heaven and came into a world full of evil and hate, because He loves us that much and wanted to show us all He is willing to do for us if we are just willing to say yes to Him. I think about how I used to think I was a good person and now I know that I fall so short of that, but that Christ is showing me what it means to truly love and helping me show that to others. I think about how I wasn't even planning on going to the college I'm at now and how I am so thankful I was led there because now I have the most amazing family who has encountered Jesus and been wrecked by Him and not living another day for anything but Him. I go to what many people consider to be the biggest party school in the country, and I tried those things and saw how deeply unsatisfying they were, and am now in a place where I experience indescribable joy, love, and peace. I cannot begin to describe how incredible it is to know the God of the Universe so closely and deeply and if you have any desire at all to know Him too, you absolutely can and please inbox me and I will tell you more about my story and how you can know Him!

Citroën unveiled the Citroën 2CV or Deux Chevaux signifying two tax horsepower and initially only 9 hp (6.6 kW), at the Paris Salon in 1948. The car became a bestseller, achieving the designer's aim of providing rural French people with a motorized alternative to the horse. It was unusually inexpensive to purchase and, with its small two cylinder engine, inexpensive to run as well. The 2CV pioneered a very soft, interconnected suspension, but did not have the more complex self-levelling feature. This car remained in production, with only minor changes, until 1990 and was a common sight on French roads until recently; 9 million 2CV variants were produced in the period 1948–1990.

As its name signifies, Bantry Bay lies perched on the rocks overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in one of the most exclusive bays on the Atlantic Seaboard. Crashing waves, magnificent sunsets and protection from the wind make Bantry Bay much sought after and, because of its position, an ideal base from which to explore Cape Town. Bantry Bay lies just outside the vibey suburb of Sea Point.

Every time I go out with my camera, I want sunshine. Unless it's the middle of the night; that would be strange, and probably signify the end of the world. But most days, like most people, I want to see the sun.

In reality, however, sunshine doesn't always produce the best light for photography. Sometimes cloudy bright days work very well for macro shots of insects, wildflowers, and colourful birds. Midday glare on a bright sunny day is the death of many a good landscape composition. Still, sunshine makes us feel better, regardless of how well it translates visually.

When I taught photography the hardest thing to get across was how to use light effectively. Time and again I'd see my students pointing their cameras up at a featureless white sky, trying for the landscape shot without good landscape light. If photography is painting with light - and that is literally what the word means - not paying attention to light is like using paint at random. You can get lucky, but you won't get lucky very often.

On this early morning outing along the southern Vancouver Island shoreline, I was hoping for sunshine, LOL. Didn't happen. With the tide way out, I walked over the slippery rocks as far as I could, looking across Juan de Fuca Strait toward the Olympic Mountains of Washington. They were shrouded in low cloud. The really interesting stuff was directly in front of me, in the rock shapes and textures, and the silvery highlights on their surfaces. Therefore I cropped the horizon very high in the frame, and let the foreground be my focal point. The light is always good for something - we just have to pay attention!

This great looking 1967 Pontiac GTO looked good in red. IT took part in the annual Weelsville car show held in downtown Wellsville Kansas.

Only a few cars in the automobile history have ever garnered so much popularity during their first generation as the Pontiac GTO. From a stunning start as an option for the Tempest in 1967 to an iconic end of the first generation in 1967, Pontiac GTO remained a history maker. The 1967 Pontiac GTO signified that the GTO was ready to move on to its next generation.

The styling remained largely unchanged for 1967 GTO. There were two major reasons to it. Firstly, the spectacular look of the 66 GTO did deserve a longer reign. However, there were a few notable differences including a chrome wire mesh replacing the plastic grille insert this time. It was pretty much the 66 GTO from the side profile, but rear taillight panels received new touch ups.

The interior was also not very distinguishable from the previous year’s GTO. A few changes in seat patterns and a new steering wheel design were incorporated in the 67 Pontiac GTO. Other than these, the car offered the same amount of head, and leg room.

Standard Specifications

Now for the second reason, styling was also overlooked for 1967 Pontiac GTO because the focus was majorly on the mechanical improvements and performance. The 1967 Pontiac GTO was offered in three body types; coupe, hardtop and convertible.Nearby car dealerships

A 400 cu inch V8 engine was standard for 1967 GTO. The standard engine could yield 335hp @5200 rpm with a torque of 431@3200. Since multiple carburetor system was no more a possible choice, it was replaced with a Rochester four barrel carburetor. GTO’s two speed automatic transmission became a history and new three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic TH400 was now available for any engine. The US safety laws were getting strict during the late 60s. Therefore, the new Pontiac GTO also included energy absorbing steering wheel, padded instrument panel, non protruding control knobs and four-way emergency flashers.

Other Options

Engines: Other than the standard offering, two more 400 cu engines were available for the 1967 GTO; economy and high output HO. The economy engine had a two-barrel carburetor instead of a Rochester four-barrel. This streamlined the performance to 265 hp and 397 ft-0lb torque. This was a no-cost option.

The high output engine, however, required some extra greens. It was a RAM air engine including a functional hood scoop. The engine had an output of 360 hp. It was a powerful engine with an open-element air cleaner, free-flowing exhaust manifolds and a better camshaft.

Transmission: Hurst Performance Dual-Gate shifter was an option for the new three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic TH-400. The dual-gate shifter allowed either automatic shifting in ‘Drive’ or manual selection through the gears.

Others: The new GTO came with a new brake system. While the dual master cylinder was standard, larger drum brakes measuring 11.5 inches were optional. Customers could also choose Rally II five-spoke wheel for additional styling. The standard steering wheel was new for 1967 but Pontiac also offered a custom sport steering wheel for the year.

1967 GTOs sold in California came exclusively loaded with emission controls.

Performance

Due to its focus on performance, the 1967 Pontiac GTO remained highly applauded in road tests conducted by various sources including Motor Trend, Car life and Hot Rod Magazines. It could accelerate 0-60 in just 4.9 sec. during a test, 1967 GTO completed its quarter mile in 14.2 seconds.Nearby car dealerships

Competition

1967 can easily be termed as the true golden era of muscle cars. Almost every competitor was trying to take the goat down, unleashing beast after beast. The term ‘Muscle Car’ had developed a new meaning and definition. It was in the same year that Mustang introduced the muscle pony cars to the world. Shelby ‘COBRA’ emerged as a real ‘cool’ competitor for the 1967 Pontiac GTO. The car still remains one of the most beautiful muscles of all times.

However, it wasn’t only the new ones GTO had to compete with. Oldsmobile once again rose up to the challenge with the Cutlass 4-4-2, this time with many new innovations and features. It is true that the Pontiac GTO was no more the only hot muscle in the ring. Yet, it remained one of the best selling cars due to one major reason. Most muscle cars were now becoming unaffordable for enthusiasts. Yet, Pontiac GTO still offered performance, style and power under a very reasonable price tag.
