Whites Castle tower house was built in 1417 in County Kildare by Sir John Talbot, Viceroy of Ireland, to protect the Cromaboo Bridge over the River Barrow and the inhabitants of the Pale. On the right of the doorway is the Earl of Kildare's coat of arms, signifying the Earl's ownership of the castle in former days. It is now a private residence.

Under a still glum sky I went to the nature reserve De Hoge Dijk between Amsterdam and Abcoude for a breather. Soon I found myself (and Olymp) in De Ruige Hof (=rough garden), a nicely maintained ecological park with lots of ditches and canals. A bit a spring green here and there; even some early wildflowers.

Here's Lungwort, Pulmonaria officinalis. It is said - from the Middle Ages onward - that those white spots on the foliage signify the Virgin's tears on Good Friday... Lungwort flourishes in the weeks around Easter.

Windmills have been a feature of Brill since at least the 13th century. Two fields adjacent to the Thame road are named Milldene and Millpiece, signifying connections with the earliest siting of windmills in Brill around 1250.

 

The present windmill on Brill Common was probably erected sometime in the 1680s. Although not quite the oldest windmill in England, it is one of the best preserved of the dozen or so 17th century 'post-mills' still standing. (Pitstone Windmill, also in Buckinghamshire, was built in 1627 and is believed to be the oldest windmill in Britain.) A post-mill is a mill in which the whole structure revolves around a central post in order to face the wind.

 

When Brill windmill last operated it was working two sets of stones; a pair of French burr stones for milling wheat, and a pair of peak stones (Derbyshire millstone grit) for milling barley. When operative, the mill had four sails, each 27 feet (9m) long and 5 feet (1.5m) wide. Since construction, the mill has probably been operated by only six millers.

 

Brill's last miller was Mr. Albert Nixey. Mr. Nixey last milled flour in 1919, but continued to grind barley for cattle food for a further four years. The new roller mills (the first opening in Glasgow in 1872) could produce 7,000lbs (about 3,200kgs) of bread flour per man hour, compared to 180lbs (81kgs) produced by a windmill such as that in Brill.

This process can also produce precipitation in the form of a virga consisting of ice or snow. Thus cirrocumulus clouds are usually short-lived. They usually only form as part of a short-lived transitional phase within an area of cirrus clouds and can also form briefly as a result of the breaking up of part of a cumulonimbus anvil. Properly, the term cirrocumulus refers to each cloud, but is typically also used to refer to an entire patch of cirrocumulus. When used in this way, each cirrocumulus element is referred to as a 'cloudlet'. 21758

These disheveled trees reminded me of the pictures (is.gd/TseCqF) of Bernie Sanders with unkempt hair. As a lighthearted homage to Bernie's campaign for the Democratic Party's nomination of its 2016 US Presidential candidate, I tagged the pictures of these trees as "FeelTheBern," the hash tag that signifies the movement that the campaign inspired.

Some of you may have heard of the famous Cape Breton Celtic band called the Barra MacNeils without knowing what the name actually signifies. Historically the MacNeil’s were the chief clan of the Isle of Barra a Western Scottish Island that saw a lot of its population immigrate to other British colonies during the 17th and 18th centuries including PEI. St. Patrick's the grand dame captured here is a far cry from the log structure that the first 20+ families from Barra erected here in 1790, it also has the distinction of being the first church in Canada to be dedicated to St Patrick.

When I visited this woodland a week before, the bluebells were well on their way to their best but there was little else in the forest to signify Spring. A week later and I was amazed by how much spring had sprung into life, especially in the canopy and lower branches.

The name is Mór-Ríoghain in Modern Irish. It has been translated as "great queen", "phantom queen" or "mare queen". The Morrígan is mainly associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death or victory in battle. She often took the form of a raven during battle.

It is said she alighted on the shoulder of the great warrior Cuchulainn on the battlefield signifying his death. She had also previously appeared to him as an old woman washing clothes on the banks of the river. He knew that this was a portent of his approaching fate.

  

 

On the Ellon roundabout in Aberdeenshire by the Ythan River Bridge there is a lovely galvanised steel mesh statue sculpture of an otter.

The 10 feet tall statue was designed and created by sculptor Andy Scott in Glasgow.

An otter was chosen to signify the relationship between Ellon and the River Ythan which is home to many otters.

   

The concept is over two thousand years old and is referenced in the New Testament as established wisdom that prevailed among the Jews of the Second Temple Period by Jesus in Matthew 16:2-3. If the morning skies are of an orange red glow it signifies a high pressure air mass with stable air trapping particles like dust which scatters the suns blue light. This high pressure is moving towards the east and a low pressure system moves in from the west.

Another variation is....Red sky at night, sailors' delight. Red sky at morning, sailors' warning.

Red is cheerful and bright, at least that's what I always thought about red. Beginning Nov. 12, 2020 Manitoba will be on full lockdown, the first Canadian Province to order another second full lockdown since the first one in March. Manitoba has been listed as Red which is considered Critical, the highest level on our Pandemic Response System. Green signifies Limited Risk of Transmission. After having the lowest rate of transmission during the summer, Manitoba now has the highest rate of transmission of Covid-19 in Canada with Winnipeg being the hotspot which is where I live. I just hope that everybody can do their part to get the numbers down. "Think Green" my fellow Manitobans and Canadians! We'll get this under control if everybody does their part! Please be safe! Indeed, the fine-structured leaves and umbelliferous collections of tiny flowers are quite beautiful close-by and splendid fields make Spring bright and happy.

Inukshuk - is a stone landmark used as a milestone or directional marker by the Inuit of the Canadian Arctic. Inuksuit differ from some cairns in significance. The Arctic Circle, dominated by permafrost, has few natural landmarks and thus the inuksuk was central to navigation across the barren tundra.

 

Inuksuit vary in shape and size, and perform a diverse array of tasks. It is a symbol with deep roots in the Inuit culture, a directional marker that signifies safety, hope and friendship.

Rath Yatra was first started by Ganga Dynasty of Oddissa in 1150AD.

The Rath Yatra festival is usually celebrated every year, and to commemorate the celebration, large chariots are pulled through the streets to signify the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and their sister Subhadra to their aunt's temple, the Gundicha Temple, in Puri, Odisha.

I took this a few days ago, when I noticed we had a clear blue sky, finally, no chemtrails for a change, the way the sun light caught through what's left of the seed pods I snapped off a few. The evening temperatures now are noticeably getting cooler, so I guess that signifies the beginning of the end for Summer.

 

And plus you can tell it's going to be Halloween soon as the Christmas decorations are appearing in stores! ;)

The Golden Temple Amritsar India (Sri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar) has a unique Sikh architecture. Built at a level lower than the surrounding land level, The Gurudwara teaches the lesson of egalitarianism and humility. The four entrances of this holy shrine from all four directions, signify that people belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome.

 

The Golden Temple Amritsar India is not only a central religious place of the Sikhs, but also a symbol of human brotherhood and equality. Everybody, irrespective of cast, creed or race can seek spiritual solace and religious fulfilment without any hindrance. It also represents the distinct identity, glory and heritage of the Sikhs.

 

The name of the city derives from the name of the pool around the Golden Temple (aka Harmandir Sahib) and means "holy pool of nectar". It is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion, and they are rightfully very proud of the city and their very beautiful and unique Gurdwara (place of worship).

 

Visitors to the Golden Temple must remove their shoes and cover their heads before entering the temple.

The Orange Butterfly is associated with the sun, life and consciousness. Spotting an orange colored butterfly can signify that a new dawn of healing an heart transformation is about to occur for someone who has been depressed or anxious. Ocean Terminal (Chinese: 海運大廈) is a cruise terminal and shopping centre located on Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

 

The location of Ocean Terminal was once a wharf pier (Kowloon Star Ferry Pier, Kowloon Wharf and Godown) on the west shore of Tsim Sha Tsui. Melbourne based artist, Adnate, has used his work to the tell the stories of the Indigenous people and their native lands.

Adnate developed a friendship with the Barengi Gadjin Land Council in North-West Victoria and found his inspiration for this mural.

The night sky represents elements of local dreaming and the overall image signifies the important exchange of wisdom, knowledge and the customs for the Elders to the next generation.

Behind us is the Konark Sun Temple chariot wheel !!

 

The temple features 24 (12 pairs) wheels representing the wheels of Lord Surya's sun chariot. The 12 wheels signify the 12 months of the year and the 8 spokes represent the 8 prahars or time divisions of the day. The wheels bear a resemblance to the wheels of the chariot of the sun. They are put in such a way that one can calculate the time through the shadow that is cast on the spoke of the wheels.
