PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: If I were a Cave Club doll, I would be Ruly (Shelly would be Rockelle--the animal whisperer). The nerd. I LOVE Ruly. I love her crazy pink hair--it's almost the same color I painted my room. Some have said Ruly resembles Fernessa--pink hair, dark skin. However, Ruly's hair is a very different shade of pink and Fernessa doesn't have lavender eyes. Ruly also has a very different expression. Her head looks like a different sculpt. In other words--I don't think Ruly and Fernessa look that similar. I love her face. She looks kind of serious...for a Cave Club doll. Very pensive. Why is Ruly me if I were a Cave Club doll? Duh--Round glasses. Also, her pet is called "Thesaurus" which would be what I would name my own dino pet...because I'm a lit geek who spends to much time reading. I don't know why they named her "Ruly"..."Unruly" would make more sense with that hair! Her hair is pretty wild! We first saw pictures of Ruly in early spring/late winter 2021. However, it was hazy as to when Ruly, Lumina, and some of the other dolls we were seeing pictures of would become more widely available. Honestly, the price on these basic dolls was just so reasonable that we decided not to wait around for these dolls to get to our area--if that ever happened. Our Ruly was actually marked as "Mattel Canada" on her box! So were the other dolls we ordered at the same time, over my April break in 2021. She is such a fun addition to the collection. I like her even more in person than I did in the pictures. For some reason, she was easier to find pictures of online than her friend Lumina. I was most worried that Lumina wouldn't actually get here and that something else would be in our box. It is unclear to us whether Ruly and Lumina are in the same wave/line as Rockelle and Bashley. We opted to photograph them together for a line/group photo, as they were all 2020 "Signature" Cave Club dolls. Plus, Lumina and Bashley work well together--bright colors and Lumina is a dj and Bashley is a musician. I'm not sure how Ruly and Rockelle fit in, aside from the vibrant, happy colors (which seem typical of all Cave Club dolls). I mean, Lumina and Bashley can throw a great party, but poor Ruly is trying to study and Rockelle is playing with her stuffed dinosaur.

HEAD MOLD: No date; Disney
IMPORTANT NOTES: There were two versions of Brave Merida in 2012--one came in her signature greenish/blue dress, while the other came in her light blue formal outfit. Based on my research, both dolls are identical, they were simply packaged in different clothes.
PERSONAL FUN FACT: Of all the Disney Store dolls ever made, this original Merida doll is one of the dolls that resonates the most with me. In 2012, I began seeing pictures of Disney Store dolls all the time online, and they started to peak my interest. This newer generation of Disney Store dollies was a lot different than the one I had grown up with, in the early 2000s. The original dolls looked more like clone dolls, as they didn't have special head molds or particularly "movie accurate" outfits. Of course, these days, I've come to adore the old school Disney Store dolls too, but back in 2012, I still had my reservations. I fell in love with the Disney Store's interpretation of Rapunzel, so I just had to get her. So Colleen and I made a trip out to the mall just for Rapunzel (sadly this Disney Store has since closed down). When we first approached the store, I saw a massive Brave display--it was the brand new movie at the time. I had no idea what this new film was about, nor had I really encountered much merchandise for it at the time in other stores. Upon seeing the Disney Store Merida dolls in all their brilliant glory, I admit that I was captivated. While I didn't go home that day with any Brave dolls, it was that first glance at them when I entered the Disney Store that I remember the best about that day. It had been the first time I had set foot in a Disney Store in quite literally ten years, so it was a huge deal to me at the time. After Colleen and I watched Brave some years later, I just knew I HAD to get my hands on one of these original Disney Store dolls (by that time, I did have a Disney Store pack Merida). Colleen loved her just as much as me, and even resorted to stalking this doll on eBay. There were several times we almost caved and purchased one. Then in the summer of 2015, we finally caught a break. Colleen and I stumbled upon a container of mostly nude/scantily clad dolls on the ground at our local flea market. Inside, there were quite a few Disney dolls. In particular, there were several Disney Store ones, mostly from the 2012 line (they were easy to spot because of their articulated ankles). My Merida doll on the left was one of the dolls from this lot, which we later dubbed the "Disney Store bin." Sadly, she was one of the gals whose outfit was nowhere to be found. Colleen and I looked for cheap clothes for her on eBay, but we never found any that were in our price range, or in lots that came with other stuff we needed/wanted. We had finally gotten a hold of our dream Merida doll, only to have to pack her away in storage since we had nothing suitable for her to wear on display (and what with my limited space, I couldn't possibly make room for this girl when she was wearing clothing from the wrong movie...not that I wasn't tempted). Luckily in 2018, I found a complete original outfit for this lady in the "Sweet Sunday Surprise bin" we got for free in the fall!
Two years later, our dream finally came true, and in the most unexpected of ways. It was the late summer of 2017, when flea market season traditionally slows down. That particular Sunday, Colleen and I had totally struck out--we were heading towards the exit, empty handed, feeling a little disappointed (luckily we had gotten two Monster High dolls on clearance at TRU the day before to ease our pain). As I walked quickly by a table, Colleen spotted my Merida doll, on the right side of this photo. She waved me over, and I quickly returned to the table. For one dollar we were ecstatic to finally have our dream doll! To me it seemed as though this doll had never really been played with. She was missing one of her shoes, but the surviving one was still tied on with a rubber band. Her hair clearly had never been brushed, as the nylon still looked soft (although it definitely needed to be flat ironed anyways). Most importantly though, this Merida still had not only her dress, but also her original cape! Funnily enough, the doll herself is not as attractive as my first one. She has a super duper wonky facial screening. This is evident in any photograph, and in person. You can see that her left eye (right when looking at her) is a lot smaller and somewhat tilted in comparison to her other one. It's little "flaws" like this that make every doll unique and endearing. Although I am glad that my first gal has a more symmetrical facial screening. I have a feeling they will be trading off on display every now and again, swapping this outfit between them. Having this second Merida doll is like reliving the memory of that trip to the Disney Store five years before. When I look at her, I can't help but remember the great time Colleen and I had that day, and no matter how long it's been, she'll always make me smile!
First (and last) decent Rapunzel doll from Mattel. My only big complaint is the damn pearlescent skin. She'd look so much better without it. Other than that, I love her.

Couldn't pass up on her after seeing her for about 10 dollars. I mainly thought I was buying her for her clothes (wanted to give her tail and top to my Disney Store Classics), but after removing all the bands, rinsing and drying her hair, and despite her shiny skin, I had a change of heart. She might not be my favorite but she is a beautiful doll
The Signature Classics Ursulla however definitely trumps over the Disney Store Vinyl Plush Doll. Thanks gymncomics for being my enabler for her lol
I wonder how many of us had autograph books when I we were kids. I had my share, but I don't know what happened to them. Just as well. By the 1950s, kids tended to write only their names without adding the silly poetry that made earlier autograph books so much fun.
This is Pauline Watson Barber Pallett's main book There is another, but it only has a few things in it.
I was going through old family photographs, most of which I uploaded a year ago. I came across the autograph book and thought my flickr buddies might get a kick out of it.
Please don't feel obligated to comment. I've been pretty busy, so I haven't been around to see.you. I'll try to rectify that somewhat next week.
I'll be going on vacation next weekend, so I'll be scarce for a bit.
Please enjoy these as I have, and if you'd like to add an autograph poem of your own, please put it in the comment box.
These pages were written in simpler times in small town Ontario. The surnames are English, Irish and Scottish ( with a bit of Welsh). The given names are certainly right out of the era.
Thanks, all, and take care.
Her tie/necklace fell off but was rattling around at the bottom of the box. Forgot to get a pic of the back of the box. oops.
with Pascal & Eugene.
The shininess of her face is probably going to really annoy me over time, but it is worth it to have this sculpt. Rapunzel has a round face in my mind. All the other dolls have longer faces and this one feels the closest to how I see her.
So glad I got this baby! Now, she just needs brown hair and a new dress.
Why this photo: we were getting our home painted & after returning from a weekend away the house was a complete mess & was filled with paint fumes.Off to the a hotel in the city (thanks to lastminute.com) & as soon as my kids + wife were asleep, off I went with my gear to get a (photography) fix
...same old bridge, however it is a different POV - at least for me. The cruise ship hopefully adds some colour to contrast the dark blue tones of the evening sky. It was extremely windy, hence the the fuzzy light reflections on the harbour.

From Elisabeth Doherty's pattern. The big one is made with 2 strands of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn and is filled with flat bottomed glass marbles I had on hand--she weighs a lot!
We seem to be able to sign our names with an unconscious ability that takes milliseconds ... but there was a time when I had lost that ability - it was as though my brain couldn't remember and my muscle memory had gone ... my signature became lost in a soup of neural dysfunction.
A few weeks later, I ended up in hospital - the complete left hand side of my body had mysteriously shut down - it would not function yet every nerve ending was in sensory overload - I lost more than my ability to sign my name - I lost the ability to walk, to form sentences, to solve simple problems.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis - I came through that episode and several since remarkably well. However, never again have I taken for granted the ability to sign my name, that signature that officially defines my identity and seals many life choices.
