From Elisabeth Doherty's pattern. The big one is made with 2 strands of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn and is filled with flat bottomed glass marbles I had on hand--she weighs a lot!

NO group invites of any kind, ...... would be very kind thank you.
We seem to be able to sign our names with an unconscious ability that takes milliseconds ... but there was a time when I had lost that ability - it was as though my brain couldn't remember and my muscle memory had gone ... my signature became lost in a soup of neural dysfunction.
A few weeks later, I ended up in hospital - the complete left hand side of my body had mysteriously shut down - it would not function yet every nerve ending was in sensory overload - I lost more than my ability to sign my name - I lost the ability to walk, to form sentences, to solve simple problems.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis - I came through that episode and several since remarkably well. However, never again have I taken for granted the ability to sign my name, that signature that officially defines my identity and seals many life choices.

I apologise for being M.I.A for so long (especially to my Fellow Nerd <3).
Anyway, loads of hard work went into this.
Especially on the blends.
I'm pretty glad with the result.
I didn't put a credit on it 'cause I felt like it would ruin the signature.
Do you guys like it? :)
Signature Spider (Argiope anasuja), is a species of harmless orb-weaver spider (family Araneidae) found from the Seychelles to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and in the Maldives. Female is about 8-12 mm long and male is 3.5-4.5 mm. After Cephalothorax greyish brown with hairs. Sternum heart shaped with hairy pubescent white patch. Palps bear spines. Legs greyish brown and hairy. Femora dorsally yellowish. Abdomen pentagonal and hairy. Dorsum yellowish with brown transverse bands. Three sigilla pairs distinct. Ventrum dark brownish with two longitudinal white patches.
Like other species of the same genus, it is known as a "signature spider"; it builds a web with a zig-zag stabilimentum somewhat resembling letters. The mature female of A. anasuja always rests at the centre of the orb with her head facing downwards. The orb has an opening at the centre and when disturbed she goes through the hole and exits on the other side of the plane of the web. They are commonly found on flora of Mimosaceae family. They prefer to make the web in a plane of shadow in the daylight.

It's strange doing portrait shoots once in a while... considering people/portraits/nudes were once my main subject... until, well, I don't know, things changed... now it feels almost like a journey back in time, photographing people again.
Very special thanks to A.! It's been a delight!
On this day (18 July) in 1566, Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, died in Madrid. This photograph is of his signature at the end of a manuscript sent to Charles V, King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor. In this letter, Las Casas, who had been a conquistador and slave-trader before his conversion to Christ and his consecration as a Friar and priest of the Dominican Order, pleads for the human rights of the native peoples of Latin America. His writings had an enormous impact and in 1542, the Emperor enacted Laws that protected the "Indians" and their lands from the Spanish colonists.
To this day, Las Casas is recognised as the founder of human rights law, and this letter is in the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

Even though it is lightly-trafficked in current times, the NA District between Birmingham and Sheffield is quite scenic and worth a visit if you can catch a train running out there. A western visitor is leading the daily westbound over one of the many large fills on the hilly line as they enter Cordova.
