Modern Ginza began in 1872 when, after a devastating fire, the district was rebuilt with two- and three-story Georgian brick buildings designed by the Irish-born architect Thomas Waters, along with a shopping promenade on the street from the Shinbashi bridge to the Kyōbashi bridge in the southwestern part of Chūō.

Most of these European-style buildings disappeared, but some older buildings still remain, most famously the Wakō building with the now-iconic Hattori Clock Tower. The building and clock tower were originally built by Kintarō Hattori, the founder of Seiko.

Ginza is a popular destination on weekends, when the main north-south artery is closed to traffic. The traffic blockade began in the 1960s under governor Ryokichi Minobe.

Georgia got into the grocery business quite by accident. She was an avid celery proponent and commissioned a sign for her backyard garden. Unfortunately, the sign maker had celebrated Saint Paddy's Day the day before he made Georgia's sign and dropped some of the letters in the sign!

These folks freely roamed the town without restraint. It was pretty scary until we found out they were just tourists like us!

A slightly foggy morning erupts in Kouvola as Fenniarail's class Dr18 diesel locomotive number 103 is delivering some timber to nearby pulp factory at Kuusankoski. The train has just departed from a nearby yard as it is still in the middle of the steel jungle full of poles and signals and of course rails.

A couple of very quick and dirty handheld shots as I was waiting for a train back into Glasgow from Paisley on a cold, snowy evening (you can see the streaks of snow in the second pic, whirling past the lights outside the platforms of the station canopy)
