Rudolf Bischoff, a German who died very early in the Great War and is buried in Plymouth, England.

Aged 26, he was one of the 111 injured Germans who arrived at Devonport in late September 1914. He was suffering from a shot-wound in his hand which became infected with tetanus from which he died. Bischoff was a Prussian Reservist and before the war had been a gardener.

He was accorded military honours but the funeral was a quiet one, with a firing party of fourteen Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, a gun carriage and a plain oak coffin draped with the German flag. There were no pallbearers.

"It was a soldier's funeral, and, though an enemy, Bischoff was accorded the honours due to one who laid down his life for his country." (Western Evening Herald)

The main German cemetery in the UK is the Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof in Staffordshire. The remains of Germans were taken there and reburied unless they were already buried in a plot or cemetery maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. That is the case in Plymouth. Under a reciprocal agreement, all German graves are cared for by the CWGC.

Café Konditorei Schmidt - Stadtplatz - Steyr - Oberösterreich / Upper Austria - Österreich / Austria

This only took me 3 hours. I wrote it myself, and went outside where the sun was shining. I find it wonderful, really.

I'm burnin', burnin'

'Cause you set my soul on fire

Weather, I don't know what I'll do

'Cause I'm burnin', I'm burnin'

I'm burnin' with desire

Yes, I'm burnin'

And it's all because of you ! :-)

Not a neon sign but this was a nice mom & pop place.

Always on the look out for hand painted letters and handmade signs. I have heard there is a documentary in production about sign painters. Taken with iPhone 3Gs

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say,"Hi"

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.
