The Alaska Highway begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada. I have created a large set of photos taken along the length of the highway and you are encouraged to view it. Unfortunately the photos are not in driving order, as they were inadventently scrambled. Maybe one day I'll attempt to reorder them.
I think this sign in Japanese has some reference to our sister city in Japan, Embetsu.

遠別日本庭園means "Embetsu Japanese Garden".
遠別 is the sister city, Embetsu, 日本means Japanese(or Japan),
庭園 means Garden.
Thank you to Snowshoe Hare for the translation!
I really didn't do this, honest! But it's not before time! Some of our local dog walkers have been having a little trouble getting up on cold winter mornings and the poor dogs haven't quite made it to the field. Not the best on a steep pavement.
I'm back from a short vacation, my first time in Door County, Wisconsin. Not sure it's worth the hype, but definitely worth exploring.

So far, finding decent neon signs in Canada hasn't been too fruitful, so the St. Clair's sign stood right out. Shame that it doesn't seem to have seen much maintenance, and will (like most Canadian signs, it seems) probably be replaced with something plastic eventually.
UPDATE: The restaurant closed, and the sign is now gone.
It all started with a very special spumoni created and lovingly produced by Lezza Spumoni & Desserts, Inc. The origin of this spumoni is Naples, Italy, and the recipe came to Chicago's West Side with Salvatore Lezza in 1905. The recipe has been in the Lezza family for over 90 years.
Salvatore handed the secret of genuine spumoni down to his son Victor. Today, three generations of the Lezza family -- the founder's grandsons Victor Jr., Edward and Jack, their mother Rosemarie, and great-grandsons Louis and Eddie -- successfully run the company with that same old world flair.
Just looked at their website. I will be back there for certain.

I'm guessing they are advertising the band, probably as it is one of the groups they play on the station. I don't know as I haven't listened to regular radio in years. At the time I did listen to star Jamie and Danny Bonaduce were on the air. Maybe it's not even Star anymore? This is right of the 5 FWY at the Valley View exit. Photo by michaelpoulin@verizon.net
Former Lucky Store located at 291 McCray St. in Hollister,CA. The building is now occupied by a Save Mart which has literally done nothing to the place leaving the Lucky interior intact. This is the only store that I am aware of that has not received any remodel let alone retain the Lucky decor. When talking to a six year employee at the store she was amazed "that the other Save Mart and Lucky Stores were remodeled". She then stated that the place doesnt look all that bad so maybe it doesnt need a remodel. She has a point but for Save Mart to spend some money at least in the pharmacy side of the store it really shows little effort by Save Mart.
Then again it was a treat seeing the Lucky decor still intact!
