The covered flight of steps leading to the Lausanne Cathedral. Built in the 13th century to link the town's two markets in the Middle Ages, these steps are bordered by terraced buildings dating back to the 16th Century.

The N3 socket is really pretty simple. There are 3 pins inside a plastic casing that has a semi-circular cutout at one end to ensure the plug aligns correctly.

With the cuttout to the right, the top pin is ground, the left pin is the Shutter release and the right pin is the focus.

Theoretically, connecting (otherwise known as shorting) the shutter and focus pins will cause the camera to focus, and shorting the ground and the shutter will release the shutter.

You want to connect the 2 connectors inside the power cable's plug to the shutter and ground pins for the shutter release to work.

I found that have the plug connected to these 2 pins still caused the camera to focus when pressing the switch.

Open the PC case and expose the motherboard (if it has one in it, doesn't matter if it doesn't).

Pull off the front facia case as well, you will need to get access to the actual power switch which is usually hidden under the actual power button itself.

Assuming I can remember to take it to work tomorrow, RedCrowe can finally experience the joy of very long exposure night photography. Hopefully, the Canon 40D has the same shutter port as the Canon Rebel XTi. Otherwise, I guess I've got me another shutter release, because quite conveniently, the port is the same as the Pentax DSLR's.

I apologize in advance for the shoddy ergonomics, but RadioShack's selection of project boxes is laughable, at best. And for the marring on the enclosure around the Bulb switch... when using a spade bit on a plastic box, higher drill speeds are king, apparently. At low speeds, the bit will walk away from you. Yeah.

I also apologize in advance to Superman, and Savage Dave, because even given the shoddy ergonomics of this one, the craftsmanship on this one exceeds yours. My bad.

I thought I would try this one, with the bridge front and sign in the composition, I thought it helped a little.....

Much of the Amsterdam canal system is the successful outcome of city planning. In the early part of the 17th century, with immigration at a height, a comprehensive plan was put together, calling for four main, concentric half-circles of canals with their ends resting on the IJ bay. Known as the "grachtengordel", three of the canals are mostly for residential development, and a fourth, outer canal, for purposes of defense and water management.

During our Christmas 2014 trip to Oklahoma, I lost my Canon RC-1 wireless remote, which I'd had for nine years and which worked with all my Canon DSLRs. So I replaced it with the Vello FreeWave Plus wireless remote control.

The RC-1 was a simple, one-button remote that used a watch battery. It used infrared and thus required line of sight to the front of the camera. Its range was limited to about 25 feet.

On the other hand, this Vello FreeWave unit uses radio frequencies, and therefore does not require line of sight and has a range of 100m. It can handle singe shot, multi-shot burst, bulb mode, and timer.

Pictured here is the receiver, which physically plugs into the camera via a short cable. It can function as a shutter release on its own -- even with batteries! -- or simply receive signals from the transmitter.

This is a slideshow of 22 images with a Tim Buckley song called Buzzin' Fly playing in the background. These are pictures that I took in our garden this morning of some succulent flowers literally buzzing with bees. This seemed like an easy way to present them instead of posting 22 individual pictures. The song is one I've known and loved for a good forty years. The good thing about this video is that Flickr restricts us to 90 seconds. I used to think that this was a drawback, but now I think that's a very good thing. And yes, I know that the song says "Buzzin' Fly" not "Buzzin' Bee", but I couldn't fine a song I liked called Buzzin Bee.

Other videos (slideshows) that I've done can be seen in my Videos set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157623226860691/...

This looks so much better when viewed large, and you can see it that way by selecting the HD icon.

$1CDN with a roll (are they even called 'rolls'?) of 24 exposure Kodak 110 film.

I mostly bought it because I hoped I'd be able to finish the roll of film, but that was not the case.

I'm getting it developed right now so we'll see in a week what was on it.

The most schizo title ever.

It's been a long time since my last light painting! I have been drawing quite a lot recently, and it felt like the media would be appropriate for the photo assignement "shutter release" for the photo club!

I love the softness of flower petals! A Daisy with two tone petals was the target of this weeks theme of two colors.(with a few gradients thown in for good measure) Shot with a 50mm f/1.8 and 36mm+20mm extension tubes.
