"Based on the X-700 chassis, Minolta later launched the cheaper models X-300 and X-500. The X-500 lacked the X-700's program exposure mode, but featured a fill-in flash mode. The X-300 was the basic model of the late X-series. It lacked TTL flash metering and program exposure mode, it did not show the f-stop-setting of the lens in the viewfinder and it did not have a depth-of-field control button. Basic parts of all three cameras, i.e. shutter, viewfinder, mirror system, and light metering system were identical."
From x-300 owners manual:
Quartz/electronically governed 35mm single-lens reflex auto-exposure (AE) camera
Exposure-control modes:
Aperture-priority automatic ("AUTO") and match-LED/full-metered manual ("M")
Exposure control and functions:
Low-voltage, low-current computer circuit varies shutter speed steplesslyaccording to aperture set
in AUTO mode, to yield proper exposure for film speed set; auto-exposurerange: EV 1 to EV 18 (e.g., 1 sec. at f /1.4 to 1/1000sec. at f/16) at ISO 100/21° with f /1.4 lens; AE lock enabling holding meter reading for exposure at that value.
Shutter:
Quartz-controlled horizontal-traverse focal-plane type; stepless speeds 1/1000 to 4 sec. set automatically with selector dial at "AUTO" setting or fixedspeeds 1 to 1/1000 sec. or "B" (bulb) set manually atdetented indications; electromagnetic shutter releaselocks when voltage too low for proper operation.
Metering:
TTL center-weighted averaging type, by silicon photocell mounted at rear of pentaprism
Film-speed range:
ISO 12/12° to 3200/36° set by film-speed dial that locks at 1/3-EV increments
Mirror:
Triple-coated oversize instant-return slide-up type
Viewfinder:
Eye-level fixed pentaprism type showing 95% of 24 x 36mm film-frame area; magnification: 0,9x with 50mrn standard lens focused at infinity; power: -1D, adjustable with accessory snap-on eyepiece lenses; Acute Matte focusing screen with central horizontally oriented split-image focusing spot surrounded by micro-prism band; visible around frame: mode indication ("A" or "M"), shutter speed scale with LED setting indication for metered speed and manually set speed, 14 sec. auto-speed indication, over-/underrange LED indicators, "B" setting indication, flash-ready signal, automatic battery check display and metering activated by normal finger contact, or slight pressing of operating button or by engaging AE lock, continue for 15 sec. after finger removed.
Flash sync and control:
Hot shoe for X sync; camera-control contact on hot shoe for automatic setting ofshutter at 1/60 sec. (except when mode/shutter-speedselector at "B") and flash-ready signaling with X-series Auto Electroflashes; other electronic flashes synchronize at 1/60 sec. and slower
manual speeds or "B" setting; Class MF, M, and FP flashbulbs, at 1/15 sec. or slower setting.
Power:
Two 1.5v alkaline-manganese (LR44: Eveready A-76 or equiv.), two 1.55v silver-oxide (SR-44: Eveready S-76, EPX-76, or equiv.), or one 3v lithium (CR-1/3N) cell(s).
Self-timer:
Electronic for 10-sec. delay, with operationindicated by camera-front LED that blinks at 2Hz for 8sec., then 8Hz for 1 sec., then remains on until shutterreleases, cancelable anytime before releas.

I usually try to cram everything in the backpack and put the Lee Filters in another small bag. Everything else that can't go in the backpack goes into the big bag. With this line up I'm pretty much covered for all types of photography when I travel.

The brand new Phottix Hero LiveView wireless remote, which was announced at PMA in March 2009.
It provides a video feed from your DSLR, as well as a remote shutter release, with a range upto 100m.
It works with DSLRs that have LiveView, but it also works with DSLRs that don't have LiveView functionality!
(Note that the one shown in the photo above is a pre-release version.)
See my blog for a review and more photos.

I love Botany bay, always have, always will. I walked the sandy shoreline as a child, rejoiced in the years of adolescence here, ran in the winds, swam in the cold water, loved and lost here amidst the journey of my life. Still I return, and the moments are laid as new memories to treasure. Botany Bay ensnares a part of my heart and soul, and I will always love her.

I've had my Sony RX100 advanced compact camera for almost a year now, and I've been very happy with it. Although one minor drawback is the shutter button: as it's recessed, it's sometimes hard to find when you're in a rush, and easy to confuse with the On/Off button.
So some people have come up with simple but very effective solution: a stick-on button which adds a distinct profile to it.

Pretty low on creativity and motivation.
What an eventful week it has been. The same rain that was annoying last week didn't quite stop and caused devastating floods in several areas. Shit sucked.
Things are hopefully returning back to normal soon.

Taken in Nanjing, by the city gates located at Xuan Wu lake (XuanWuMen).
This is my seconds attempt with a B+W 110 filter, just as the sun was starting to fade.
It was really busy there, with people and cars coming through the gates every few seconds. I can't believe how the long exposure created by the B+W hides all this movement.... Great possibilities.
Grad filter used for the sky.
I know it looks a bit like HDR, but its not, just a long exposure with a small aperture...
Taken in RAW...
Very little work in Post Process, just temperature adjustment and removal of some dust spot on my sensor - really need to get that cleaned!

As far in as I was able to go in this very flooded adit.

The historic market place (Markt) was once considered one of the most beautiful market places in the world. It was reconstructed in 1984-1990 in its former splendour, after its destruction in the 1945 air raid.

A 120 format folding camera that I bought in a charity shop in December.
120 film is still available, and I'm going to run a roll through this camera when I get my "develop my own black and white film" project off the ground.
Two shutter settings: I and B (instant and bulb).
Two aperture settings: f/11 and f/16.
Focuses from 6 feet to infinity.
Hello Google users!
Eleven and a half minute exposure. View large - it was night, so it looks better on black.
Strobist: diffused moonlight through the trees.
The wonderful ham,egg and cheese sandwich my wife made me for lunch. I had planned on being all creative with this weeks shot, but time and hunger got in the way...
3 shot HDR
A little write up of the shot on my blog: newd7000user.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/week-10-of-52-theme...
Situated at the end of a 500m causeway protruding into the Arabian Sea is the whitewashed Haji Ali Mosque, containing the tomb of saint Haji Ali who is believed to have meditated on these very shores.
Another shutter button, this time made by sticking the screw thread (the business end of an emasculated shutter release cable) into the chuck of an electric drill, slapping some Sugru silicone-like putty on the end, spinning it at medium speed and shaping it with a small coffee spoon. Easier than it sounds.

I spent way too much time messing with this thing today but it works like a
champ!. With about $30, I was able to build the homemade shutter release
with a 40' extension. I built it modular so that I had a short version to
use right off of the camera or to add the 37' extension to it to get some
distance. I have a bird feeder on my deck that I get a lot of visitors
(when I remember to put food out) I wanted to be able to tripod mount my
EOS and run the long cable through the living room window so that I could
fire some really close shots of the bird friends. See the next shot that
was taken using this setup (no birds before it got dark)
After you wind the front dial thing all the way clockwise you start it running with the small lever just visible at top right. The rotation of the big red dot helps you see how close you are to the shutter tripping. The knurled barrels let you adjust how far the plunger extends from the tip at its maximum (if you set it perfectly, the plunger will snap back inside right after tripping the shutter).
