This beautiful female Polar Bear put on quite a show for us. She approached and amused us for quite some time with her antics.

A return to the Butterfly show in June. Here is the same sort of butterfly I showed last time, I think.

I liked this one, with the two together... mating, I suppose, since neither one is feeding.

I tried to look it up online.... I think it is Heleconius telesiphe. It is a butterfly from Ecuador.

Sunbirds have multiple adaptations to their primary source of nutrition, which is the nectar of flowers. The most prominent one is the long curved bill, which allows them to get deep into the flowers to suck out the nectar. Another one is their tongue, which is tube-shaped with some microscopic brushes at the tip, that can be extended even beyond the end of their bill, which allows them to drink nectar even from flowers that are deeper than their bill length. You can see the tongue of a brown-throated sunbird in this picture, it is the translucent part that seems to extend from its upper mandible.

This is the same bird that I posted a picture of two days ago, in which it shook so rapidly that there was only a very colorful blur visible. In this picture you also get an idea how much the iridescence of the bird's feathers changes with even slight differences in angle of observation.

The Japanese Peony Show in Brooklyn Botanic Garden happens every year. It is a big celebration of beauty. Peonies are a precious gift from Japan that arrived in the Garden many years ago.

The James R. Barker arrives under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge while belching a wild amount of smoke. The ship also put on a ridiculously long horn show - talk bout an entertaining entrance.

Whatever the weather, I always enjoy spending a couple of hours alone up here on this limestone plateau. The world rushes by far below on the M6 Motorway and it slows to a tranquil beauty up here with views in all directions of landscape beauty.

The Dales to the East, the Lakes to the North and Morecambe Bay to the West it is so well placed.

Anyway, I waited until well after sunset on this evening and I was treated to some lovely post sunset colour. The beauty of this time of year is that sunset is now so early ar 4.15 pm and you can enjoy its show and still get home for Dinner.

This afternoon I stepped out onto the deck and was treated to a light show that only lasted a few minutes. The sky was turning overcast, and the Sun was poking thru illuminating the snow blowing off the tops of the peaks. It gets incredibly windy up near the top of both East and West Peak. The chill factor must be crazy up there.

The rather colourful Tang Dynasty Dancing Show, near Xi'an, China. We were taken to a local venue, where we were served a delicious Chinese feast and then treated to a colourful dancing show.

The Orchid Show at Missouri Botanical Garden is coming up soon. I'll go if I can, but I've got a bunch of photos I haven't edited from the 2017 and 2018 Shows. Here's a few ...

Taillight on a 1935 Ford. Note how the gas cap is built into the taillight.

This was an indoor car show and the florescent lights in the ceiling created their own show of lights reflected in the paint of the cars. I was really disappointed as this made for poor photographs as there was just too many lights to correct later in post. After I poked my lower lip back in and pulled up my Big Boy photographer pants, I realized there were some opportunities here if I was to look for them.

Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis) female

I popped down to to see the Hobby Family today, there was a lot of flying going on, Mum seemed to be teaching the young to hunt. One of the young is very confident, one is till very much learning (see tomorrow).

A couple of neat old cars. It may be awhile until we have another car show with so many events now being cancelled. We were looking forward to the St. Louis Easter Car Show, but that will probably not happen. So we'll enjoy some pix from past events.
