After the female Painted Bunting took center stage a few days ago, it was the male's turn the next day!

Showing off its red eye-ring and gape.

Napa, Ca. Feb. 2022.

This Red Fox seen near Cooke City, Montana just outside the boundary of Yellowstone National Park seems to be showing off it's fur, colors, and amazing tail!

Red-winged blackbirds are native to North America and though they are migratory, they can usually be found year-round in Florida and other states. Their presence is easily identified by their beautiful song that they sing. Though the males and the females are strikingly different in appearance, both possess their own form of beauty. However, it's the male that always gets more than its share of attention.

Quite social and bold in ther wetlands, it will fly around the reeds and stalks at a frenzied pace. I often find myself in wait for them to flare out their wings and sing out, which usually coincides with them showing off those beautifully colored bright red should patches, which also sport a creamy color, as well as yellow.

Such a beautiful song, coupled with a beautiful striking bird, always makes me smile when I see them.

Thanks so much for stopping by to view. Life has been busy lately and we're getting ready for 2 weeks of dog sitting duty ... fun!

Yesterday I spent a lot of time trying to track down information on this bench, and then for any other photo of the bench that might take me to a useful link....I gave up.

However, I am persistent, and this morning I searched for what was written as a heading on the bench i.e. Esk Coastal Habitat, and way down the URL list I spotted "There Is Another Alphabet - Invisible Dust", I nearly didn't click, but luckily I did and bingo!

invisibledust.com/projects/thereisanotheralphabet

And so discovered there are three three ‘There is another alphabet‘ benches, so we missed the other two; and that they date from 2022, so much newer than we realised.

The title comes from a poem by Dejan Stojanovic: “There is another alphabet, whispering from every leaf, singing from every river, shimmering from every sky.”

The link above has a pictorial map showing where the benches are.

As part of Wild Eye, the three sculptural benches were situated around Whitby Harbour, and were created with designs by local people about the wildlife of the Esk Estuary in collaboration with artists Juneau Projects.

BTW the list cross references to what is shown on bench - I have highlighted A, B and C with notes.

A. Beadlet anemone

B. Bottlenose dolphin

C. Cod

...

S. Sandwich tern - I think that might have been on the back.

Three men dressed in Mayan costumes climbed an enormous blue pole. One stayed on top beating a drum, and the other two tied ropes around themselves and swung around in circles upside down until they were all the way down to the ground.

Covered in verdigris and rusty, one wonders how much longer this link in the chain will last - even though it is quite thick.

Lanceleaf coreopsis (sepals & petals) was my most 'faved', with 282 'faves.'

WHAT IS EXPLORE?

"Explore is a Flickr feature with the intent of showing you 'some of the most awesome photos on Flickr.' Photos are automatically selected by computer according to a secret algorithm called Interestingness. The top 500 photos ranked by Interestingness are shown in Explore.

Flickr has stated that many factors go into calculating Interestingness: a photo's tags, how many groups the photo is in, views, favorites, where click-throughs are coming from, who comments on a photo and when, and more. The velocity of any of those components is a key factor. For example, getting 20 comments in an hour counts much higher than getting 20 comments in a week.

Is Explore a showcase for the top Flickr photographers? No. It's for photo viewers, not the photographers. It exists so that, at any moment, anyone who wants to view interesting photos can go to Explore and have a reasonable chance of seeing something interesting.

Does that imply that photographs not in Explore are uninteresting? Of course not. Many wonderful photos are uploaded to Flickr each day not selected for Explore. But, to serve its purpose, Explore only includes a small sampling of all of the photos on Flickr, showing photos from many different people to create a diverse selection."
