Here's a picture of the shower.

These images are really just for fun and will likely put a smile on the faces of people who know me! This is the first camp we were at in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania and they had no running water. All the water had to be brought in from a borehole. So you can imagine what it took to supply water for this 6-tent camp. And they also did laundry, all by hand. So we had an outdoor bucket shower. OK, I wasn't sure about all this at the beginning but it soon became routine and a lot of fun.

Our days everywhere typically began with a wake-up at 5am. No time to shower but they brought a bucket of warm water for a quick wash. Bottled water was supplied to brush our teeth. They also brought coffee and a snack and then out on safari before sunrise. In Africa, the sun rose and set very quickly so that sweet light was very short-lived.

Lunch after we got back around 11, but depended on what we saw. Sometimes much later. Then free time until about 3:30. They filled the bucket with warm water any time we wanted to shower. You could start and stop the shower any time and there was more than enough water for 2 people. It was also a different experience to shower outside. Then out on safari again until dark. In the national park you had to be back at camp by 7pm.

So this was a wonderful experience of Africa the way it used to be, and still is for many people. Completely new for us as we are not campers! We saw very few other vehicles and often we were the only ones at a sighting. We heard stories of a lion in Kruger with 40 vehicles around it.

Another photo is in the comment box. The large tree over our tent is a Sausage Tree. And you really do not want to walk under because those "sausages" can be very heavy and you wouldn't want one to fall on your head. There are some larger ones in front of the tent. We had lots of wildlife walking by, attracted by a bowl of water which we made sure was filled. We explained why our water kept disappearing - the animals and birds needed water when it was so hot.

Many thanks for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
