Although similar to my previous photo, until I looked closely and processed this raw image, I did not notice the meteor showers. Nikon D750 with a f2.8 14mm Rokinon lens. I brightened the Milky Way a little to produce more contrast in the night sky.

Keep an eye (and lens) out for the Perseid meteor shower this weekend. This is one of the most reliable displays of shooting stars - with 70 meteors per hour visible under dark skies far from the city light pollution.

This is my Perseid meteor shower image from 2016 - taken from Glen Allen, Virginia.

Heavy rain shower, Port Darwin, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, Jan. 2017

Kodak T-Max 400 @200

The heart may 'jump' once too often, it is said

from the moment we raise a thought from it's bed

eyebrows might rouse the sight ahead of it's own sound

the speed with which we are lost and preferably found

is entwined into intervals and silhouettes by sunsets

the duality of senses find an enclave before light forgets

swamped is the benevolent piece of mind, head in the clouds

seeking Sun and warmth taken up by Pine and Oak shrouds

from all this land failed to embrace let it never be forgotten

but forgive the unprincipalled leaders and all their begotten

for the Suns of evolution will shine when the time is absolutely right

and before any questions are raised when the day is out of sight

rains continue to fall this apparently peaceable day

cloud banks my mind ever further beneath the covers where I pray

for the warmth of a Summer true to bring me out of the malaise

the one that preaches as much as it disobeys

my command of rites to empower a season's trestle

as July cold becomes insupportable for Summer to wrestle

away from it's misplaced instatement, a nutcase unresolved

for it's we that'll crack first now in dire need of heat devolved

the days shrink from haphazard deluges: an unruly mob in tow

battering down our resistance to a futile mope apropos

of the nothingness now felt between showers victory chants

such weather is maddening for our routine it now transplants

give a chance and be fair when instance becomes habitual

grief-ridden forecasts dampen down what is now a long-range ritual

postponements become abandonements all too quickly

and all of a sudden the season is lost when we give in so meekly...

fight, fight, fight it, don't ever be so much as slighted by it!

for it is our life, our world, our hopes and dreams we must acquit.

This shot is from the same evening as the rainbow I posted a few days ago. This is the true color of the sky from that sunset. I did not process this photo in any other way except to sharpen it. It was pouring rain, the sun was shining brightly and there was a massive rainbow behind me.

A blend of 3 shots to get 4 meteors in 1 picture. I like my composition and the night out. But watching the Perseids shower was less impressive as I thought it would be :-)

Standing on the platform at Talsarnau station and looking towards Eryri mountains with snow showers this afternoon.

To be fair the birds were there all the time even when it was chucking it down and I only went out with the camera if the rain stopped and the sun came out.

Luckily during one of these brief forays the female Nuthatch approached the feeders and stayed long enough on this nearby branch for me to grab a couple of shots.

The pure excitement of these elephants arriving at the waterhole, for a drink and a refreshing splash, was a shear joy to behold. The dust shower was so intense at times that one could barely see the elephants through it. Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Zenitar M2S 50mm f2 lens. Focus movement feels like there is some sand stuck :) plasticky and cheap but sharp and wonderful bokeh :) I see more similarities with Helios 40 bokeh.

No coating I guess. Also, this lens does crazy flaring!

Thanks to Robert Georgiev for inspiring shots from this lens.

You've seen this shot before If you've followed my photos for a while. I put it in the comments of another shot I took in Seattle a while ago. I just decided to post it "for reals".

This was taken way way WAY back during summer. I know you're jealous of this weather.

Rain showers come and go these days. It's great to see them come over the water and sometimes grow in strength because of the temperature of the water.

Kim and Jacky threw me this awesome shower with a Luau theme! Everyone wore flowers in their hair and showered me with wonderful!

Looking across from the Burren in County Clare to the Twelve Bens in Connemara on a showery spring day.

Dad's fancy hotel room - the shower was just frosted glass opening into the kitchen. What the hell?

Because I drank until the middle of the night on that day, the last train disappeared. I took the taxi of the large van for the first time, but do not remember ride comfort because I slept to my home.

Incoming rain showers propelled by brisk Pacific Trade Winds threaten a soaking on our cliff side trail. The shallow cumulus clouds formed from evaporating ocean water are capped by wind inversion. Despite their short stature, these cumulonimbus can generate intense, localized precipitation.

Skye piled a bunch of leaves in a tree and then pulled them down on top of her. She said she was having a "leaf shower."

This is a rural area in eastern Washington called The Palouse. The farm land is incredibly contoured - much different than the usual flat fields in many agricultural regions. Those dramatic contours must make it a challenge to farm but it does make for interesting images. The setting sun (out of frame to the left) was casting long shadows on the rolling farm land and lighting up the rain shower to the north with color. The photo was taken from Steptoe Butte which rises amongst the farms and offers 360 degree views - worth a trip if you are in the Spokane area.
