Was about to take some pictures of a Retro Swimsuit Contest, looked into this car and saw this killer welded chain shifter with paint cans for a knob.

Model GC3A trigger shifter from late 1955 or early 1956. With "upside down" graphics and gear indicator "window" hole, this example is mated with a hub dated 1955 - 12 on a Phillips sports light roadster.

My first attempt at producing a tilt-shifted image. Not sure if it works....

One is missing a Phillips-head screw. Both are missing lock nuts, and one has a flat-head screw (through the existing hex nut) that is too short.

I would have liked to have had a higher view of the train, but I was just standing on the platform.

1. On the bottom side of the ratchet wheel is another thin plastic friction washer and then a steel washer [Thicker then the one on the top] which rests against the base of the boss.

2. The shifter boss just drops out the back side.

3. The Pawl will just lift right up and out.

Un Fake Tilt Shift di Messina - Juventus

Yesterday I went out looking to take some pictures that I could try and turn into fake miniatures by using a Tilt Shift technique in Photoshop. This is my first try, it's a shot of Slussen in Stockholm, you can view the original here.

To really admire the technique you need to view the large version by entering into Slideshow mode, or you can follow the link bellow to my blog and click on the picture there to see a larger version.

Even the most confident and seasoned drivers are at risk when winter road and weather conditions change. Whether you drive for work or leisure now is the time to prepare.

Between October 1 and March 31, most BC highways require passenger vehicles to have 3-peak mountain snowflake tires and commercial vehicles to carry chains.

A scene from CSI that applied a fake 'tilt shift' effect to make Las Vegas look miniaturized.

more practice with the tilt shift effect

Took some more pictures of Sam today. Found out she can be shifted so she's actually sitting! I was trying to be artsy with some of the shots, like the ones where she's holding the tiny pocket watch.

Sam is a Dollzone Minas on a DZ Sawarieda body in white skin. Eyes from ebay, wig from Monique (a 7/8 Jojo that I cut the bangs on). "Outfit" (aka modesty scarf) is from a Doll Heart outfit.

This has a nice clean custom interior with the zany shift stick knocking on the rearview mirror. I don't think Hurst makes that one!

With the red corduroy underbust corset and the Elizabethan shift, I've got the beginnings of a pirate queen outfit.

Taking turns playing in the dirt.

Like a lot of others in the group this is the first time I have tried the tilt shift effect. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.I did have a lot of fun trying though!

Best seen on black!

I thought the shot was crying out for a first go at tilt-shift in Photoshop. Any good?

Hard to believe this 11 coach train is not a regional express but just a 'paddy' train. On the Shuangyashan colliery system a QJ passes the loco works on the outskirts of Dongjing in January 2002. Note the fireman has full boiler pressure for the climb ahead.

This picture was taken on Fuji ISO 400 as my ISO 100 camera had chosen a bad time to freeze up!

After a number of kids impaled themselves on these shifters in the 70's, a group of activists (led by Ralph Nader) had these bikes outlawed.

These tip if bicycle gear shifts are now known as "suicide shifts" by some collectors.

The idea here is a ratchet. When you push the shifter down, this mechanism produces friction, but at the same time you take pressure off the spring in the derailer, so the motion is pretty smooth. When you pull the shifter up, though, you put stress on the derailer spring. Rather than make it doubly hard to lift, this ratchet mechanism takes the friction off of the shifter itself, leaving just the stress from the derailer spring. As a result, it takes roughly equal effort to up- and down-shift.
