Danny Gills last shift went out with a bang when this 2 alarm fire in an occupied homeless shelter came in at 03:30 hrs. A quick primary search by Truck Company 1 before water was started turned up no victims. Fire was in possession of the first floor , second floor and roof area.
We had tremendous difficulty opening up the second floor ceiling. Over the years tradesmen had added many layers to the ceiling.
The first layer was the original wood lathe and plaster, followed by shag carpeting which was overlayed by 3/8" plywood and finally 5/8" drywall. All of the materials were screwed to hard native lumber joists . The first and second floor fire was knocked down quickly . Finally we were able to open the ceiling and get this one tapped out.
The building was repaired and still stands today. Dan Gill is front row with the portable clipped to his coat.
This is my dog Scooter. I was fiddling around with my new lens (50mm f1.4 - merry Christmas!) and, though I'd had his eye contact, he turned his head at the last possible instant.
This photo is nearly untouched - despite the cheerful lighting in the room, I think something rather melancholy came out of the picture instead.

Rented a tilt-shift (24mm) and played around with it, I wanted to create that "toy-model) effect that I've seen on a National Geographic paper. Didn't work that well... probably I should have got the 90mm.
This is my first attempt at tilt-shift (using a very old photo from a trip to Berlin). Does anyone have any tips?
Power shift
The economic clout of customers is increasing, and customers are exercising that power. When Netflix announced last summer that it would be increasing rates and splitting its streaming and DVD businesses, customers loudly broadcast their discontent on blogs and other social media.

Netflix stock plummeted.
When the CEO publicly apologized but did not change direction, in a post titled "An explanation and some reflections" blog.netflix.com/2011/09/explanation-and-some-reflections... and a related video An explanation and some reflections he fanned the flames of customer discontent: (Warning, rated V for vulgarity: Hitler Reacts To Netflix Apology and Qwikster Announcement)
The stock dropped even further.

At this point I think it just felt like more bad news, but IMHO it was good news.
Although the company made some bad decisions they also showed they were smart enough to listen to customers and reverse themselves.

The barcon shifter orientation part of my brain thought these would work well this way. The reality is that they are much better flipper over with the Suntour logo facing down.
