Normally by this time of year I would be seeing these bugs and many other insects everywhere. Often for macro this is the best time of year for finding wee beasties. This year however my local spot seems to be lacking. Hopefully next year will be better and this is just a blip. However, speaking to a researcher on the subject it seems there has been a huge decline in insect volume in the past 30 years. I certainly don’t have to clean my car of little splatters anywhere near as often.
It was a pretty evening along the Shields River the other night. My daughter and I were trying to figure out what had killed a deer and carried it off instead of dragging it. The tracks were old and hard to read...

Your 'Comments' do not always appear in 'Notifications' or Flickr mail, so, I am sorry for any delay in responding. Often your 'Comment' is only spotted 'On the Page' on the day, that I see it. (seen ONLY when replying to someone HAS 'Commented' on the image, and I see a notification)
In the last photo, a small shield bug was visible in the lower right of the Dahlia. Here he is, close up.
It's a lovely sunny morning so I need to set off nice and early as we have possible heavy showers later. Shield your eyes is by Dry The River. I do love the beach at sunset time.

The USS Enterprise is once again being attacked by aliens within the Christmas Nebula ... located in a galaxy far far away :)
This a combination capture overlaid in Photoshop ... the saucer section is at f/16, and the remainder of the image is at f/2.8 to get that real explosive looking bokeh.
The f/16 version of this will most likely be posted for the Monday Macro theme ... though I have a few other ideas for this coming Monday's theme (starts with a vowel)

I spotted this pair on the Jade plant, you can just see the second Bug between the berries.

Robert Shields moved his family into Cades Cove in the early 1820s to avoid a typhoid epidemic at Chilhowee. He established one of the earliest Cove tub mills and sponsored early Cove industries of forging and milling in partnership with D.D. Foute and “Fighting Billie” Tipton. He was active in the Baptist Church and served as Justice of the Peace and member of the County Court.
