As summer is nearly gone, I liked to do this sea side wedding cake. Everything is fondant, only the couple is polymer clay.
Thanks for looking!
A sandpiper works a pile of shells for food as even more shells wash ashore on a beach near Bay City, Michigan, on Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay. Done for Textural Tuesday.
HTT, everyone!
Love how these 2 shells appear to be an echo of each other: brown on white/white on brown - and what an intricate piece of coral
Made molds of a few shells a couple of weeks ago and used them to create this today. Inspired by flickr friend: www.flickr.com/photos/22057628@N00/5706653513/
These lovely seashells on the beach at Grótta, Seltjarnarnes. Of all sizes and colors. I took a few and played with them.
My wife’s crop from our two days on Sanibel Island. These shells will be incorporated in her artwork.

Time to move on from Jury's Gap to our next stop this time Dungeness. Why, Melanie needed to use the loo so we stopped off at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway station to use the facilities and stayed a while!
E' da tanto che volevo farti vedere queste foto. Mi mancano i tuoi commenti. Mi manca vedere le foto che fai tu e la sorpresa quando mi dicevi "Ho fatto una foto!"...
Penso che le tue preferite siano questa...
Shell's Kitchen (1,808 square feet)
14624 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA
The was originally a Taco Bell, which opened on December 19th, 1977 (as the first built in the area) and relocated here in 1992. Since 1995 it has operated as several different independent restaurants, including:
*Kory Restaurant
*Soprano Italian Restaurant (opened in the 2000s, closed in early 2012)
*Sunday's Kitchen (opened in late 2012, closed in early 2013)
*Wolf's Burger Joint (opened in December 2013, closed in early 2014)
*Emo Italino Pizza (opened in 2014, closed in the middle of 2016)
*Shell's (opened in late 2016)
As you can see here, this Taco Bell had the exterior access restrooms that were a common staple of locations of that era. I'm not sure if the drive-thru is original or not, but it's certainly situated oddly. The arrow looks like its' pointing you to drive into the shed!
The origins of the Shell petrol brand are somewhat surprising, but certainly explain how it came to be called that and how its logo evolved. In 1833, a chap called Marcus Samuel opens a shop in London selling oriental seashells, which became popular decor. Indeed, going back earlier in time, but discovered in 1835, was the Shell Grotto in Margate, Kent, which is a series of underground tunnels adorned with millions of seashells arranged in intricate patterns and symbols. Anyway, I digress.
In the 1970s, the sons of Marcus Samuel, apparently called Marcus Jr and Samuel (surely not!) expanded the business into Japan selling kerosene and other goods, and thus establishing the company's foundations in petrol. In 1897 the Shell Transport and Trading Co was founded in the UK. In 1907, and to be able to properly compete on the international market, the company merges with Royal Dutch Petroleum Company to form Royal Dutch Shell. By 1904 the instantly recognisable shell logo was introduced, based on a scallop shell, an earlier logo based on mussel design had been dropped.
By 1924 the company had its first refinery in Stanlow, Cheshire. In 1932, and to cope with the effects of the great depression, the Shell Mex-BP group was formed for UK operations and lasted up to its eventual break up in 1975-1976.
Bit by bit the company grew and grew into pretty much every part of the world and just over a century later there is hardly a place in the world where one doesn't see a Shell petrol station.
For many years of its operation, the word Shell did not need to appear on the signs as the logo was so iconic by then that pretty much everyone knew the brand.

I've collected quite a few Shell branded keyrings, featuring a few of their post war logo variations.
Built in 1790 by Matthew Cary Whitaker, near Enfield in Halifax County NC. This was taken about a decade ago right before it was drastically remodeled. I will post more photos and info on this place over the coming days..
Just when I thought I've finished with my shell collection, I've discovered 2 more to be documented. This one here shot at around 2x and using Bolt LED ring light. I didn't want to apply an oil here but eventually I did when I touched with with my oily hands! Anyway, I think the light luster made some nice texture from the top to the bottom.
Shell pasta sauteed with capsium and presented in a gorgeously roasted red capsium. In the background are the gnocchi and pesto pasta.
This picture belongs to a series of food shots I did for Kiss Cafe (Beijing).
Calgary is complicated. It is a Cowtown and an oil town, after oil and natural gas was discovered in Alberta in 1947. Fortunes rise and fall in Calgary according to the international crude prices. International oil companies compete with home-grown players and they come and go due to many economic, business and political factors.

This is original equipment from an old garage that is now a private house in the village where I live.
All this construction around my house is driving me insane. Its a good thing my wife just got a Jeep because my regular car would have fallen apart by now with all the holes and sand bumps in the area. Have you guys seen the extremely deep hole in the street between Starbucks and Sbarro in front of Fanar? I had trouble passing it even with the Jeep! Hopefully all the construction will end soon and they repave the streets. Near my house there are a whole bunch of Shell barrels filled with diesel fuel for the trucks. I really like the Shell logo and colors, its simple and memorable.
