These adverts are scans from the 1958 Christmas Day edition of the Times of Cyprus newspaper, when advertising was alot less sophisticated!
Shell pattern and cables from Alice Starmore's Cape Cod in "Fishermen's Sweaters" but otherwise my own, Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed. Needles 3.5 mm (US 4). Knitted in 2006.
Shells I found on the beaches of Sanibel Island, Florida, during a visit in February, 2018. I found some additional kinds, more familiar to me, & brought a variety home to share with my friends at a nearby nursing
home.
Shell ranch station side view - Vero Beach FL - December 1970. This is at the northwest corner of 8th Ave (US 1) and 19th street, and I think it did business as Howard's Shell. There is a McDonalds adjacent on the other side. Across US 1, there is a Bay gas station and just to the left, an A&W drive-in. Nearby but not pictured was the Dolphin Motel that had a neat neon sign with a jumping dolphin. This was taken from the porch of a relative's home. According to Google Street View, it is still exists, although it is now operated as a Sunoco outlet with a big canopy.
These grotty shells were everywhere on this fence...quite disgusting really, but made for interesting detail. I like the line of the fence and quite like that the post itself is slightly off centre. There's a spider up the top right too that looks great up close!
Zebra mussel shells on the Cana Island beach, Door County, Wisconsin. It's impressive to see so much shell, although not a good thing from the perspective of invasive species in the Great Lakes.

Shell Keeley Shoot…
I photographed the FABULOUS Shell Keeley recently. We met up and had tea at the Rococo Coffee House, in Liverpool. It was the first time I had met Shell, but we had been in touch via msgs on Facebook and such, so it didn’t really feel like our first meeting. I had wanted to photograph her because she simply looks divine, in her genuine vintage clothes PLUS she is the sweetest lady. So here we are, sat by the window in this rococo styled coffee shop, having a good old chin-wag, topics ranging from Vincent Price to Bette Davis, it wasn’t long before our cups were empty. So I set up my lights & we shot away.
We then packed up, Shell made a quick out-fit change (1930’s German red dress), and we were gone.
NEXT UP…
OUT DOOR SHOTS
We had a little wander about, taking pictures with just natural daylight. Stunning results with backlighting from the sun. Shell has the BEST eyes, so I took lots of close-up shots with an aperture of F/1.7 at 100 ISO, with my Pentax manual focus lens.
Really happy with the results, and you wouldn’t believe it was Shell’s first ever photo session. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful person, with the most impeccable manners. A true lady.

Why do bookends appeal? Is it their decorativeness? Is it the fantasy they portray? Is it that they visualize the romance, adventure, history and knowledge found in books? Are they used to reflect our sense of style? Is it that they are in pairs? Perhaps it is all these reasons.
Bookends: another chapter is an exhibition at Mosman Library that showcases treasured bookends held in private collections. The exhibition, on display from Tuesday 12 April to Sunday 15 May 2011, is an opportunity to view some fantastic pieces dating from the 1920s to the 1980s.
Shell Island, also known as Mochras, is a peninsula lying west of Llanbedr in Gwynedd, Wales. It was formed after the River Artro was diverted by the Earl of Winchelsey in 1819 from its previous course where it entered the sea to the south of Shell Island. Prior to this, access to the ancient settlement on the island would have been through the village of Llandanwg, which is now across the estuary.
Pearl shells. Nacre--also known as 'mother of pearl' is organic and inorganic composite material produced by mollucs as inner shell layer-- which in turn makes up the outer coating of pearls. It is strong, resilient, iridescent. Nacre is found in most of the ancient lineages of Bivalvia group of shells, Gastropods, and Cephalopods.
