We made a day trip to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE and also had the luck to visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque - the 3rd largest mosque in the world that can accommodate up to 40.000 worshippers...(view on black)
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Arabic: مسجد الشيخ زايد) in Abu Dhabi is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the eighth largest mosque in the world. I will be posting a set of 13 shots taken of this amazing architecture.
Now the third largest mosque in the world, Sheikh Zayed Mosque is an impressive site on the road between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Su nombre hace honor al primer presidente de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Zayed ibn Sultán Al Nahayan, quien falleciera en 2004. El proyecto se inició en 1998 por iniciativa del propio Sheikh Zayed.[1] La construcción terminó en 2007, después de siete años de construcción y un coste de 600 millones de dólares. Es la mayor mezquita de los EAU y la ter.cera más grande del mundo.

On the way returning from Kenya, we had 20 hours layover at Dubai so we drove about 1.5 hr down to Abu Dhabi to visit this grandest and most beautiful Mosque in the world. It was a scorching hot day but it was very worthwhile. The best part, free admission and free tour guide!

La mezquita Sheikh Zayed es una mezquita situada en Abu Dabi, en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos. Su nombre hace honor al primer presidente de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Zayed ibn Sultán Al Nahayan, que falleció en 2004. El proyecto se inició en 1998 por iniciativa del propio Sheikh Zayed. La construcción terminó en 2007, después de siete años de construcción y un coste de 600 millones de dólares. Es la mayor mezquita de los EAU y la tercera más grande del mundo. Se extiende en una superficie de 20.000 m2. La mezquita cuenta con cuatro minaretes de una altura de 107 metros y con 82 bóvedas de siete tamaños diferentes. Las bóvedas de mayor tamaño se construyeron con panales de hormigón prefabricados y fijados entre ellos, mientras que las bóvedas más pequeñas se construyeron in situ de fibra de vidrio. La bóveda más importante tiene una altura de 80 metros y un diámetro de 36 m.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque also has some world records made.
The carpet to be laid out on the vast expanse is the "World's Largest Carpet" made by Iran's Carpet Company and designed by Iranian artist Ali Khaliqi. This carpet measures 5,627 square meters, and was made by around 1,200 weavers, 20 technicians, and 30 workers. The weight of this carpet is 47 tons - 35 tons of wool, and 12 tons of cotton. There are 2,268,000 knots within the carpet.
The other world record this mosque holds is for the largest chandelier. There are seven chandeliers imported from Germany and are copper and gold-plated. The largest chandelier has a 10 meter diameter and a 15 meter height.
The Mosque is large enough to accommodate more than 30,000 worshipers.
There are four minarets on the four corners of the mosque which rise about 107 meters in height. There are 57 domes covering the outside yard and the main building as well. The domes are decorated with white marble and the interior decoration is made of the marble.
The courtyard is paved with the best floral marble designs and measures about 17,000 square meters. "

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has seven imported chandeliers from the company Faustig in Munich Germany that incorporate millions of Swarovski crystals. The largest chandelier is the second largest known chandelier inside a mosque, the third largest in the world and has a 10 m (33 ft) diameter and a 15 m (49 ft) height. - Wiki

Part of this truly amazing building in Abu Dhabi.Covered in pure white marble,it was built with no cost spared. Some of the 54 domes can be seen,with the one on the right being the largest dome in the world.
