Adding the last two pictures to my little watercolor garden journal for the Summer of 2011. I am getting more ambitious with detailed subject matter, trying to learn to edit and make the composition, not the absolute perfect capture, the most important aspect. Remembering the essense over the image.
No Spt today but was having a clear out & came a cross an old magazine feature from when I lived in London & was flitting around. I thought i would share it with you.
RIP Cassidy. She's been winding down for some time and was helped across the bridge on Wednesday morning.
and has the key to mens hearts....unfortunately like a wine you need to wait for her to mature a little....

She had a far-away look in her eyes and looked as if she had wandered in from another century... Who is she? Why was she standing there, a lost soul? I'll never know.
But she had a waif-like quality about her, a kind of innocence that no longer exists.
She's angelic; perhaps she got lost on her way back to Heaven!
Or is she impatiently awaiting her beloved....

She was tall, probably hungry too. It struck me that her paws were so big - likely an adaptation over time to cross snow covered country.
I learnt a lesson today. Although I already knew the answer in an academic context, this morning was the first time that its everyday significance really dawned on me.
The concept was to get more or less due west of the Forth Bridges in time for sunrise.. the vision being of the sun rising majestically behind those iconic structures - if we were lucky through a moody mist.
Aside from not being on location quite in time (which in the event didn't matter a jot), the flaw was in my well learnt over simplification that the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. Of course, we're less than a month on from the shortest day, and the sun really doesn't follow that age old pattern quite as strictly as you might think.
So the lesson I learnt (and hot tip), is when planning the location for a sunrise / sunset shoot, take the time to check the azimuth angle - scanning the tables for today shows that the sun rose at 127 degrees (that's almost South East!). For those who're interested by these things, the sun got to a whopping 13.9 degree elevation above the horizon at noon! Welcome to Edinburgh winters =)
This shows just how much power that little girl has over people. And to think, if she can do this at school, what do you think her home life is like...yeah, she's spoiled.
