The teachers at the school are encouraging students to point the pencil away from themselves when sharpening it with a razor blade. I took many individual pencil sharpeners and a classroom sharpener. Even the teachers continued to use the blades since they said it did a better job. (Notice this little boys lack of a thumb tip. He lost it in a knife accident when he was younger.)

When cleaning out some stuff, a collection of pencil sharpeners was found - these are really cool because not only are they old-fashioned in that no one really uses pencils anymore, but that they were in neat shapes representing old-fashioned items.

My trusty Wüsthof Trident sharpener has seen a lot of Japanese steel in its days.
