A friend has determined that we should be tourists in our own city, and take in local museums and landmarks. We began with the Dalnavert Museum, which is the house in which John A. MacDonald's son lived.

When I was very young, a horse-drawn wagon brought a tool sharpener around our neighborhood. After more than 50 years, it was a shock to hear the distinctive bell of this "grinder" as he drove near our house yesterday. About the only thing that seemed different after all those decades: He used a beat up truck instead of a horse.
We talked as he worked. He said he picked up his trade from his father, an Italian immigrant. For us, he sharpened a lawn mower, axe, clippers and a grass whip. It was more than worth the price.
In our town, we have a guy that comes around on the weekends and sharpens knives for the local restaurants. He operates out of the back of his van in a parking lot. He has quite the set up and this is a snap I took of his gear
