These will complete the set this couple had ordered from us at the DIY Trunk Show in November. They have an Underwood typewriter cup and a Leica camera cup, which they purchased at the trunkshow, and then they ordered these...This is the first time I was able to use that pencil sharpener, and I'm so glad that it came out - You can even read the 'Chicago' under the Sanford :)

This is from lesson four and took about 30 minutes.

I stopped and looked at the old pencil sharpener. It is really beautiful--symmetry and age...

the front buffer beam opens when you push your finger into the circular hole in the back (just visible behind the handle) to reveal itself as a tray to collect the pencil shavings.

Malta bus marketed by Leaf Ltd. This is quite a bit smaller than the usual Leaf Bedfords, 93mm approx, and although the box is a scaled-down version of that for the larger buses, this is actually nothing like an authentic old Matla bus, being an American school bus with the doors on the wrong side for Malta. It does however have a pencil sharpener with the hole in the boot lid.

All my Malta buses can be seen together in the 'Souvenirs & Caricatures' album: www.flickr.com/photos/adrianz-toyz/albums/72157674226561402

Iduna von Idea! Made by Idea G.m.b.H., Leipzig. Alfred R. Wepf collection, Villa Müslischreck, Switzerland.

The count as our visit 3,283, and as Paul adamantly reminds you, "there are no duplicates. That would spoil the museum" Metal, plastic, stately, silly, animals, buildings, superheroes, cars and trains-- Paul's collection fills the shelves in a specially built structure at the side of his house. The 84-year old former pastor and veteran of WWII says the quest has literally helped keep him alive, and even if computers make sharpeners irrelevant, the Pencil Sharpener Museum will forge on.

Unfortunately, another job that is being lost.

My mother found this recently at the same shop and mailed it to me here in Illinois with the joke that it represents the trait which the men in my family possess and which I grow more into daily -- a large nose. Yes, my nose is bigger than that sharpener.

Eight pencils are required as fuel to get the head of steam required to operate the sharpener. Once up and running, the boiler is fed pencil shavings to keep her going.

Modern steam-driven pencil sharpeners now run on unleaded fuel....(wiki)

Dexter No. 3 pencil sharpener, restored. Stripped/repainted, lubricated, and replaced the acetate pieces on the shavings bin. I used plastic packaging from some stuff my wife bought to make the clear body parts for the bin. I scanned the original decal on the computer and printed it out on adhesive label paper to make a new decal.
