from Wikipedia

The Eskimo Nebula (NGC 2392), also known as the Clown Face Nebula, Lion Nebula, or Caldwell 39, is a bipolar double-shell planetary nebula (PN). The nebula was discovered by William Herschel on January 17, 1787, in Slough, England. He described it as "A star 9th magnitude with a pretty bright middle, nebulosity equally dispersed all around. A very remarkable phenomenon."

NGC 2392 WH IV-45 is included in the Astronomical League's Herschel 400 observing program.

The formation resembles a person's head surrounded by a parka hood. It is surrounded by gas that composed the outer layers of a Sun-like star. The visible inner filaments are ejected by a strong wind of particles from the central star. The outer disk contains unusual, light-year-long filaments.

NGC 2392 lies about 6500 light-years away, and is visible with a small telescope in the constellation of Gemini. NGC 2392 is located just east of δ Geminorum, just south of the ecliptic.

At the center of NGC 2392, there is an O-type star (designated HD 59088) with a spectral type of O(H)6f.

no darks/flats or other calibration frames yet

This was a quick and "dirty" post processing in StarTools. I wanted to take my shiny new lens out for a spin and since my eventual goal is to mosaic the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, this seemed like a good first attempt.

I first used the smart histogram function in Sharpcap to get the ideal exposure time to minimize noise. The suggestions were for a gain of 119 (unity gain) with the above mentioned exposures. I usually do a gain of 120 to get into the low read noise regime so I naively kept that gain setting and used the approximate times sharpcap suggested.

I was also planning on doing LRGB opportunistically but alas, I forgot to turn my dew heater on and towards the end of the OIII sequence the lens was starting to form some cloudiness. So my LRGB data is junk but at least I got some SHO.

In StarTools I made Ha the Luminance channel and then added SHO for RGB data. So I guess this would be HSHO. For the color I did a modified Hubble Palate where the red was a blend of S and H in order to get the red color of the Ha regions instead of having them green.

Not bad for about 4 hours worth of integration and no calibration frames! I also took about a minute worth of 1 second data in Ha to overlay in M42 since the Trapezium is totally blown out in this image but I haven't gotten to that yet.

Oh and I could definitely see in the data that Ha was fairly sharp but S and OIII were quite out of focus. I don't have a focus mechanism for this system yet and at f/2.8 the focus of the lens is very sensitive.

We captured Mars on Dec 17, 2022 at about 9.42 pm local time using our C8 Edge telescope at its native mm focal length of 2032 mm together with a Planetary color camera ZWO ASI178 MC.

At the time of taking the video, the desert area in the northern hemisphere was prominent with its reddish tones. Our image shows hints of two big volcanoes in this desert region (upper region in our image). The darker albedo features in the southern hemisphere also stand out in this image. We used SharpCap to acquire 3 minute videos at 80 fps. We then stacked the best 8000 frames out of the 14215 frames of the video to get this image. Enjoy!

Shot from Roanoke driveway April 4, 2018. First attempt with a new "Lucky Imaging" technique: 275x5 sec exposures. Equipment: ZWO ASI-294 (not cooled), gain=340, Orion Atlas Pro unguided, Canon 250 mm zoom lens stopped down to F11, image capture in Sharpcap, processed in PI.

Despite the sky being so cloudy I wouldn't give up hope on capturing any solar images, so I kept going on for an hour until it wasn't possible to capture any further.

First captures are just a minute apart and the last 1/3 are around 3 minutes apart.

Had to push with farther intervals because of rolling clouds and I didn't want to end up having broken stacks.

You can see some huge prominences on the sun's eastern edge as well as on the southwestern edge.

Quite magnific movement on them.

from Wikipedia

Messier 28 or M28, also known as NGC 6626, is a globular cluster of stars in the center-west of Sagittarius. It was discovered by French astronomer Charles Messier in 1764. He briefly described it as a "nebula containing no star... round, seen with difficulty in 31⁄2-foot telescope; Diam 2′."

In the sky it is less than a degree to the northwest of the 3rd magnitude star Kaus Borealis (Lambda Sgr). This cluster is faintly visible as a hazy patch with a pair of binoculars and can be readily found in a small telescope with an 8 cm (3.1 in) aperture, showing as a nebulous feature spanning 11.2 arcminutes. Using an aperture of 15 cm (5.9 in), the core becomes visible and a few distinct stars can be resolved, along the periphery. Larger telescopes will provide greater resolution, one of 25 cm (9.8 in) revealing a dense 2′ core, with more density within.

It is about 18,300 light-years away from Earth. It is about 551000 M☉ and its metallicity (averaging −1.32 which means more than 10 times less than our own star), coherency and preponderence of older stellar evolution objects, support its dating to very roughly 12 billion years old. 18 RR Lyrae type variable stars have been found within.

It bore the first discovery of a millisecond pulsar in a globular cluster – PSR B1821–24. This was using the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory, England. A total of 11 further of these have since been detected in it with the telescope at Green Bank Observatory, West Virginia. As of 2011, these number the third-most in a cluster tied to the Milky Way, following Terzan 5 and 47 Tucanae.

MINERAL MOON

MORE DETAILS

www.astrobin.com/full/s8woc8/0/

The Moon is usually seen in subtle shades of gray or yellow.

The different colors are recognized as corresponding to real differences in the chemical composition of the lunar surface.

The blue tones reveal areas rich in ilmenite, which contain iron, titanium and oxygen, mainly titanium, while the orange and purple colors show regions relatively poor in titanium and iron. The white/gray tones refer to areas with greater sun exposure.
