Elegant Terns are great divers and very successful at what they do. They dive fairly deep compared to some of the other terns, and then they shake the water off of their wings after they dive, as they rise back out of the water.

You have your subject locked into your focus. it then starts to shake, the finger just gets held on the shutter button and hope that some parts are in focus.

When terns plunge dive and emerge from the water, they need to get rid of it, thus the shake. Click to enlarge

After crossing the Snake River, this bull elk tried the drip dry routine for a bit as he stood with the steamy water streaming down its sides. After a short while he shook and the water sprayed and glinted like little stars in the bright morning light. Not long after this he turned, looked at me and off he went into the trees. What an amazing few minutes with this magnificent animal!

Sitting literally at the end of the Valleyfield subdivision, 536 power is idling into the comfortable night, watching the daily parade of Toronto and Montréal-bound nighter who's rapidly rolling by the station, shaking it for a few minutes before fading into the night.

Those Searchlights will likely disappear by the end of the year, their substitute already sitting on the ground a few hundred feet at left, waiting their turns for assuming the next fifty years or so of directing train movements at this busy junction.

Bald eagles in action talon to talon. It was a bit off in the distance in tough light, but I liked the pose in the air and the conversion to B&W.

Something a little different. Otter having a good shake at first light.

From Karen Carpenter to Taylor Swift. I'm not sure I should have this amazing singer in the same sentence as the other person, (note I didn't say singer :o) I'll let you decide which one is which 😉

This Gull was flying straight towards me, and even though they must get used to being wet, I have never seen a Herring Gull shake off excess water in mid flight !!! Terns, Osprey, yes, but never a Gull !!

A serious shakeing to get rid of the morning dew on its feathers and then start the new day.

Some people may smile at you and shake your hand while their hearts are as dark as Erebus, as Shakespeare says in the Merchant of Venice:

"The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils; The motions of his spirit are dull as night, And his affections dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted."

So, do not be fooled by hand shakes and big smiles. How people deal with each other is the criteria here.

A new bear on the scene this year that looks very much like George perhaps George senior or maybe his mother? This bear was almost twice the size of George and didn’t seem to have any issues with him at the fishing hole, however George didn’t not relinquish the area without a fight...well more of a spat. Video coming soon.
