"The grass withers and the flower fades, but the lovingkindness of the LORD lasts forever" - Isaiah 40:8

The landscape of Joshua tree is a collection of ancient rocks that were formed many years ago. Lava flowed upward and cooled while still below the surface. A series of horizontal and vertical cracks formed in the rock. As ground-water worked its way through the cracks, rectangular stones were transformed into unlikely shapes. These rock piles were exposed after flash floods began washing away the surface soil that covered the rocks. Today you can see rock piles that look like arches, whales, tulips, skulls and more.

My shadow was cast by the late-afternoon sun while standing on a rock that was high above the base of the arch.

The A. J. Meerwald is a Delaware Bay oyster schooner, a distinct vessel that evolved to meet the needs of the local oyster fishery. Launched in 1928, the A. J. Meerwald was one of hundreds of schooners built along South Jersey's Delaware Bayshore before the decline of the shipbuilding industry that coincided with the Great Depression.

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS™_20180924224153

It was kind of hard to make this picture. I was cycling pretty hard and made the picture of the shadow with the sun on my back. The reared thing is that you don't see the camera in the shadow.

a veces aunque quieras vivir entre sombras siempre alguien notara algo especial en Ti.

Wow, the moon was partially eclipsed by Earth's shadow! This was actually during the last total lunar eclipse of the 2014-2015 lunar eclipse tetrad. Too bad there was too much cloud cover this time around so I wasn't able to see the blood moon/totality... Pic taken from around the Martial Cottle Park in San Jose, CA. There were a few other people with me hoping to catch a glimpse of the blood moon... (Sunday evening, September 27, 2015; 9:07 p.m.)

More info of this rare supermoon total lunar eclipse event:

This event took place on September 27-28, 2015. It also happened to be the closest supermoon of 2015. It’s the Northern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon. This full moon was also called a Blood Moon, because it presents the fourth and final eclipse of a lunar tetrad, which is four straight total eclipses of the moon, spaced at six lunar months (full moons) apart. The dates from all four eclipses is as follows: April 15, 2014, October 8, 2014, April 4, 2015, and finally September 28, 2015.

This total lunar eclipse was visible from most of North America and all of South America after sunset on September 27. For us here in California, the greatest eclipse had occurred around 7:47 p.m. PDT. Too bad it was mostly cloudy in my neck of the woods so I didn't see totality, or the blood moon portion. However, the clouds cleared up a bit just in time for me to see the last half of the eclipse, which unfortunately, was only a partial lunar eclipse by then. I was bummed since I even planned where to view this. It would've been perfect since I had a clear view of the eastern horizon... I went to the Martial Cottle Park to view this event.

Supermoons occur when the moon reaches its full phase at or near the satellite's closest approach to Earth, and appears abnormally larger and brighter. This lunar event was quite special; the last supermoon eclipse occurred in 1982 and the next won't take place until 2033. Hoping for clear skies to see that event...if we are still around!

Loving his foot rub! I don't know why, but he would much rather you rub him with your foot rather than your hands!

I haven't quite mastered catching that twinkle from the sun on the snow.

In search of the best light, I often found the shadows of leaves on leaves very enticing to photograph.

home alone tonight. i've certainly become a lone wolf recently, awwwwwwooooooooooooo (wolf howl). i usually don't get freaked out in our house alone, it's an old place but its cozy and safe, and aside from freaking each other out, we never feel afraid here. because of this sense of security, i proceeded to watch ghost hunters on the sci-fi channel in our dimly lit living room all by myself like a big girl. this is one of my favorite shows and instead of the episodes i watched scaring the crap out of me as they have in the past, the show inspired me for today's shot. i admit though, i might have to sleep with the closet door closed tonight.
