I had to drive around the block for this after spotting the shadow paired up with the stair angle.
#6 "Diagonal" for 116 pictures in 2016
Everyday our local butcher bird family visits for a feed with the maggies and kookaburras. But this time one of our little feathery friends was shadowed by a magpie.
The beauty of Vestmannabjørgini (Vestmanna sea cliffs), Streymoy (Faroe Islands).
Known as the Vestmannabjørgini, these majestic sea cliffs rise up to 600 meters above the turquoise hues of the churning sea below roughly halfway between Vestmanna and Saksun, on the north side of Streymoy, Faroe Islands.
The cliffs are characterized by their numerous clefts and green blankets of luxuriant grass and mosses (sheep graze quite undisturbed on the clifftops).
The boats that sail here give an unparalleled view of the cliffs and the birds as they weave in between the numerous sea stacks and in and out the narrow straits bound by sheer rock walls and dark echoing grottoes.
These soaring cliffs provide safe nesting places during the summer months (May-August) for thousands upon thousands of seabirds, above all puffins, guillemots, razorbills and gulls.

posting this image scared me and still does... while it might be seen initially as a spooky image, what scares me more is the inherent vulnerability
I wonder is there a knowing beyond what the mind can fathom and is this what sometimes haunts me to pay attention?
here is where I feel the vulnerability - in this place of uncertainty where the mind can't go, because of it's very limits - but a sense of something behind all of it, weaving through everything, timeless and immeasurable...
an incantation to let go in order to become...
I’ve always felt more at home in lush forests, along rugged coasts or anywhere nature overflows with life and color. That’s why photographing a place like Bardenas Reales is still a personal challenge for me — a landscape stripped down to its bare bones. No trees, no rivers… just clay, wind, cracks and silence. But maybe that’s exactly why it’s so powerful.
After several visits, I finally began to understand its rhythm. On my sixth trip, everything aligned — the sky caught fire, the textures came alive, and I remembered an old composition I had in mind. This time, I knew exactly where to stand.
What drew me most to press the shutter was the light: the sun was setting low on the horizon, illuminating the ridges and cracked clay forms in front of Castildetierra. Some shapes glowed gold, while others fell into deep shadows — a perfect play of light and darkness that added depth, contrast and drama to an otherwise harsh environment.
Yes, it’s a classic viewpoint. But this is my version — shaped by patience, countless attempts and a deep respect for this barren land.
This was taken in theodore roosevelt island in Washington DC. I was looking for interesting subjects when I saw this. I thought the shadows cast on the trees and it's reflections were pretty cool. It looks like the non- shadowed portion of the pic has framed the shadowed portion.
Shadows of a balloon with the sun shining from behind. It was cool as the balloons acted as a lens to make the shadows appear in color. I had fun taking the picture as I waited for the parade to start.
Late afternoon shadows on a shed at the New York Botanical Gaden. -The Bronx, NYC - February 16, 2020
on the bustling gran ví-a, where chaos usually drowns whispers, a single man walks slow and deliberate. his hands folded behind his back, his gaze hidden. the shadow of a lamppost rises tall, cast like a sentinel guarding a bygone era. the textured wall beside him, marked with ornate designs, speaks of patience and permanence. sunlight slices the scene, dividing light from dark, stillness from movement. a fleeting pause amidst madrid´s relentless rhythm.

For this week’s Self Portrait Sunday theme ”Shadow and Light”.
A beer glass's random encounter with the sun; I was intrigued that the red bits were opaque enough to produce black shadows.
View On Black Amazing what a difference it makes!
