Shadow play or shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment using opaque, often articulated figures in front of an illuminated backdrop to create the illusion of moving images. It is popular in various cultures. At present, more than 20 countries are known to have shadow show troupes.
The Turkish tradition of shadow play called Karagöz and Hacivat was widespread throughout the Ottoman Empire and featured characters representing all of the major ethnic and social groups in that culture. It was performed by a single puppet master, who voiced all of the characters, and accompanied by a classical Ottoman music ensemble. Its origins are obscure, deriving perhaps from an older Egyptian tradition, or possibly from an Asian source.
During the 19th century these characters were adapted to the Greek language and culture, Karagöz and Hacivat becoming Karagiozis and Hadjiavatis with each of the characters assuming stereotypically Greek personalities. This tradition thrived throughout Greece after independence as popular entertainment for a largely adult audience, particularly before competition arose from television. The stories did, however, retain the period setting in the late years of the Ottoman Empire. Karagiozis theatre has undergone some revival in recent years, with the intended audience tends largely juvenile.

While having a lazy sunny winter sunday, the reflection of sun into the living room gave me that idea. I had done other shoots as well, with tea glasses etc, the view was nice the photos were not. That was the only shoot, that I loved. It was hard to choose a title; like 2 Circles, sun & shadow etc.. Thank you all my nice Fickr friends, who visied my page, commented or faved or just viewed..You gave me inspiration to start that hobby. I have seen your photos, all the peoplle I follow or who follows me (thank you all..) and then I decided to start to take the camera in my hand. The results might not be on the good level yet, but I try and I love it..

Travel becomes more beautiful when you see serenity and shadows at the same time. It was a wonderful day when I was traveling and reading book in my iPad and suddenly saw outside and couldn’t resist myself to capture this view.
Some walls in a city stand like giant screens retrieving shadows in street lights. This sometimes draws my attention and I stand rapt in awe, looking at the mysterious dramas reflecting city lives.

Shadow - I am sooo happy for Shadow and MC! When I would go out to the alley in the cold, dark -20C weather to feed them, I would sit in the car warming myself up before going back out to interact with them and I would dream of somehow making their lives better. That was only 5 months ago.
They are now living my dream come true. I could not imagine a better home and a better situation than the life they are living now. Both cats have free run of the entire house now and Shadow is almost totally to the point where he is permitted to be outside unsupervised. MC is a little slower in adapting, but she IS adapting and she seems to be enjoying her new life.
Although it is my dream for them that they are living, I think they are happy with it and I believe that if they could choose between their former life in the alley and the life they have now they would choose this new life as house cats. Yes, I am very happy for these cats!
There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides.
