18th April 2024

Another shot from the recent trip up to Todmorden catches the realities of valley living in the winter as one side enjoys the sun, and the other side ...... well, doesn't. In fact, it's quite possible that some of the houses on the north facing slope may not see the sun again until Spring - something to note when house-hunting in the summer.

The shot was taken mid-morning when there was still a bit of mist in the bottom of the valley, and before the frost on the tracks had disappeared. The train is Northern's 10.16 Manchester Victoria - Leeds service (2E43) in the hands of class 150, unit 150114.

I quite like the telephone box top left - whether it's an elaborate garden ornament, or for actual use by what must be a very few paying customers these days, is open to question.

Sunrise this morning.

Lying in the frost wearing little.

Still alive, if only just!

Arches in a courtyard in Girona, Catalan.

Slip into the autumn shade

I could sleep for days

But I like the sun when

I can hear another sound

It's a long way down

Keep my head up

Who am I to be this way

Dreamin' so insane

But I like the sun when

Fallin' through another plain

Never one the same

Keep my head up

The lovely old Plane trees are looked after here better than the buildings seem to be. The paintwork on the shutters is peeling. there are huge cracks in many of the old stone walls, and render falling off. Some of the buildings are so undermined by the water beneath that they have to be propped up wit robust metalwork. There is so much character and charm that it is a pleasure to visit

Had the opportunity to go to Mexico on a family vacation and I could not go without taking the camera! Thankfully I had the opportunity to do a birding tour with Amar Aves - and I highly recommend it! Saw 50+ species and managed photos of about a dozen or so, including several keepers!

The map GPS shows this as in Tanzania, but we were still north of the Mara River in Kenya when we spied these two giraffes seeking shelter from the middday sun under an acacia tree .

I thought this made a nice silhouette image.
