El STi7108 ofrece mejoras en funcionalidad, versatilidad y facilidad de uso.
STMicroelectronics, uno de los mayores fabricantes de IC’s para set-top-box, anuncia una nueva generación de dispositivos decodificadores que permitirán a los set-top boxes híbridos (Internet / TV) desarrollar mejoras para responder a los requerimientos de usuarios y clientes.
La familia STi7108, que se une a los decodificadores de vídeo STi710x de ST, ofrece las prestaciones para soportar controles de usuario de gráficos 3D, TV 3D, protección de contenidos y conexiones a dispositivos externos.
Los nuevos dispositivos poseen procesadores host CPU ST40-300 duales que se enlazan a caché L2 de 256 K para dotar de un rendimiento de hasta 2000 DMIPS y un total de 4000 DMIPS, y ofrecer soporte flexible a aplicaciones de AV, seguridad y conectividad. Un motor de gráficos 3D ayuda a crear una nueva clase de interfaces de usuario, soporta innovaciones como 3D Electronic Program Guide (EPG) y permite trabajar con contenido de Internet y juegos de elevado rendimiento en el STB.
Por lo tanto, este modelo de ST se convierte en el primer IC set-top box del mercado en combinar gráficos 3D, Ethernet, USB e interfaces e-SATA para conectar dispositivos de Internet, almacenamiento DVR y drives de Flash externa o disco duro (HDD).
El STi7108 se beneficia del uso del procesador gráfico ARM® Mali-400™, el único procesador embebido que ha demostrado compatibilidad con las especificaciones Khronos OpenGL ES 2.0 con resoluciones de alta definición (HD), para desarrollar una experiencia 3D desconocida hasta el momento.
Este IC STB es capaz de decodificar vídeo en formatos estándares, incluyendo H.264, MPEG2, VC-1 o vídeo de internet WMV9, y MPEG4 parte 2 con resoluciones de alta definición 1080p 50 / 60 simultáneamente con formatos ‘picture-in-picture’ o mosaico de 1080i / 720p. El nuevo dispositivo también dispone de opciones flexibles de interface de memoria para ofrecer DDR2 / DDR3 LMI de 32 / 16 bit dual a 1066 MHz.
El STi7108 cuenta con entradas para hasta seis flujos de transporte y dota de 3DTV HD ‘full-motion’ sobre HDMI 1.3 con protección de copia HDCP. El soporte para compartir contenidos, conforme a la especificación Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), contribuye a poder usar reproductores de medios HD y Blu-ray de próxima generación.
Junto con otros procesadores integrados, como un subsistema de proceso de audio y gestión de gráficos 2D, el STi7108 permite dar un salto significativo en rendimiento y, por consiguiente, ofrecer mejoras a los diseñadores de STB para crear características y servicios multimedia de valor añadido que diferencien sus productos en el mercado.

Here you can set the captions, and change the aspect and hdmi/component output format. 4:3 Override basically changes the resolution to the setting you choose, whenever you visit a 4:3 SD channel. The resolution chosen has to be enabled in "HD settings" wizard for it to work.
