A true Nambé classic, this rectangular platter dates to 1956, when the small company was first producing the handcrafted metal ware that would take the modern design world by storm. The platter displays that unique Nambé attention to proportion and simplicity, resulting in a piece that is both art and functional serving ware. Rounded corners, subtly upturned sides, and a smooth broad surface lend the tray to an artful arrangement of sushi or exquisite dessert bites. Generously sized and capable of retaining heat or cold for nearly the length of a party, the graceful platter shows no intention of waning in elegance or popularity as it enters its next half-century. These four liturgical silver vessels—a paten and three chalices (1950.378–81)—form what is now called the Beth Misona Treasure, named for the village in northern Syria for which the objects were made. While nothing is known about the exact location and circumstances of the treasure's discovery, the people of the village of Beth Misona were, like other Christian communities in Syria and Palestine, probably forced to bury their church silver to hide it from the Persians or Arabs, who conquered their lands in the first half of the 600s. The paten, which held pieces of Eucharistic bread used during Mass, is decorated with an engraved Latin cross surrounded by a dedicatory inscription that names the paten's donor—Domnos—and its original location, the church of Saint Sergios in Beth Misona. The chalices, which contained the Eucharistic wine used during Mass, feature broad cups decorated with portrait busts of Saints Peter and Paul, Christ, and the Virgin. One chalice bears a dedicatory inscription naming its donor—Kyriakos, Domnos's son—and the priest of the church that received the pious gift—Zeno.

This magnificent pitcher, called a ewer, was almost certainly meant for serving wine in the dining room of a wealthy home. On its surface are images in three bands representing the expected bounty of the hunt. Deer pursued by a lioness and hares chased by dogs appear in the top band, signifying the wealth of game the owner hoped to have on the family table. In the lowest band are edible sea creatures, while the center features the merry followers of the Roman wine god Bacchus (Dionysos in Greek).

Soy Citrus Marinated Scallops.
They were okay. Nothing to scream from the moutain top about. Could be improved and then maybe worthy of screaming from mountain tops.
The marinade for the scallops was good. I even marinated a filet of tilapia which tasted better than the scallops. I think I will try tuna and shrimp next time.
Soba Salad needed more umph. Very light and refreshing but nothing special. Will try next time to spice it up with some miso and chili oil.
at least it photographed well on my Jonathan Adler plates :)
