Cyclamen is a genus of 23 species of perennial flowering plants in the family Primulacae. We have five differing coloured plants with several growing wild in our garden.

It is the most widespread cyclamen species and the most hardy and vigorous in oceanic climates. It is native to woodland and rocky areas in the Mediterranean region from Southern France to Western Turkey and on Mediterranean Islands and like mine naturalised farther North in Europe and in the Pacific North West.

Amazing to watch.

. . . I don't know if he caught anything out there, because it's a bit early for the salmon run yet. But it had to be a night to remember with the calm lake and smokey sunset in Grand Haven last week.

5th September 2020:

Got my first view of the moon when I opened the patio shutters first thing this morning. So once the animals had had their time in the garden I kept Izzy on her lead and fetched my camera. It just looked too good to miss a chance.

Back in time again... to three month's ago. Despite still being in a Northerly Airstream the weather was much brighter and settled then resulting in beautiful skies and sunsets such as this - taken at 7.00pm outside my home in Betws yn Rhos, Conwy, North Wales.

Thanks you for looking at my images!!

The sailing school out for a lesson. Hope my rework on this one doesn't show up too much.

I'm struggling with the weight of my gear and am looking at options to lighten the load.

Today I used the Sigma 100-400mm lens on my D500.

Looking at the very lightweight D3500 ( the cheap option) or changing completely to Sony a6500 mirrorless (the need a mortgage option)

. . . Another one from last week when Michigan was getting smoke from fires out west. It made for memorable sunsets for us, and a lot of misery for people out west.

Der Kölner Randkanal dient der Abführung der Sümpfungswässer aus den Tagebaugebieten der RWE Power AG und der Entwässerung des Rhein-Erft-Kreises.

Die Ursache zur Farbveränderung ist mir nicht bekannt.

The Cologne Rand Canal serves to drain the swamp water from the opencast mining areas of RWE Power AG and to drain the Rhine-Erft district.

I do not know the cause of the color change.

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable. ~Joseph Addison

In this first of two images the sun's intense 'Fireball' appearance caused this silhouette effect. Within one half hour the horizon turned a deep orange as the clouds moved further West as shown in the second image.

A fitting end to another perfect day - having started with a beautiful sunrise too!

29th September 2020:

Managed to get out this morning for some fresh air, exercise and some photos. Not quite as warm as it has been, but still a lovely day and good to get out.

Took one of my usual walks, but went off at angles from time to time and found this chicken in someone's back garden. There was also a cat in there too, but it seemed more afraid of the chicken than the chicken did of it!!

I had a toss up with this photo or another one I took but added to in PhotoScape. You can see that one down my photostream or via this link :

Aspects of Penarth. Waves lap at the Penarth Esplanade on a blustery 19 September 2020. This was just past high tide and the swell was starting to dissipate, but still not the sort of sea to be out on. It had not, however, stopped the local lifeboat from going out on an exercise.

HFF! One of two photos taken recently as Summer draws too a close and we appreciate the flowers still blooming.

Thanks for visiting, stay healthy and hopeful. #BeKind

The atmospheric 'Fairy Glen' on the River Conwy (Afon Conwy) is known in Welsh as Flos Noddin which translates as 'Deep Ditch'. It is a secluded wooded gorge on the River Conwy and is located a short distance from Beaver Bridge on the outskirts of Betws y Coed, with little waterfalls, cascades and rapids - as shown in this image.

Its water tends to be acid and often coloured brown resulting from its catchment area where ancient acid rocks are generally covered in thin often acid soils.

Last night's heavy rain caused a rapid rise in water levels, resulting in this torrent, as well as washing further 'Brown Acid Soil' into the river.

It's a great favourite with both photographers and artists alike. If you are ever nearby it's well worth a visit.
