We are told that when St Francis was found in the Verna woods lying face down in the undergrowth, he was repeating: “Who are you? Who am I?” In this way, he fixed the abyss of difference between man and God, the two poles, which create the fascination of religious sentiment. The deeper this sentiment, the more it is like lightning shooting forth–powerful, bright, and burning–and the more man feels the potential difference between these two poles.

Sentiment is intellectualized emotion, emotion precipitated, as it were, in pretty crystals by the fancy.

The snow finally stopped late last night, leaving the city to wake up to something that looked a lot like a winter wonderland.

And just like that, the season changed. At least temporarily.

Oh well; at least it was a pretty sight. The majority of what fell yesterday has melted off, thankfully!

Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

Fog, a captivating phenomenon comprising suspended water droplets in the air, evokes conflicting sentiments within me. From my years as a pilot, it's a nemesis, causing delayed departures and arrivals as we await visibility to meet minimums on the runway. I've often found myself begrudgingly canceling flights due to the persistent presence of this elusive and unpredictable mist. However, on the flip side, the photographer in me embraces the enchanting allure of fog. It possesses the unique ability to soften landscapes, infuse an air of mystery, and transform mundane scenes into breathtaking images. On this particular day, my photographer instincts were stirred as I captured the mesmerizing sight of fog gracefully rolling in along the Bedford Channel."

Elas têm o melhor abraço do mundo!

Taxco (Mexico) - The photo was taken discreetly in the city's permanent market. It has the particularity of being located on the mountainside, like the whole city.

To visit Taxco on foot, it is necessary to have good calves because the streets are steep. When I went to the historic heart, I sometimes had the feeling of trekking in Nepal. The intensity of the effort is the same.

I had the bad idea to find a great value hotel on the edge of town and spent my time going up. going up, going up… On the positive side, to come back, it goes down.

I have been fortunate enough in having the chance to admire these beauties, let's try to keep them for our future generations.

The indiscriminate poaching is destroying Africa and our silence contributes to the ongoing slaughter of these animals. Raise our voices never let a few destroy the natural heritage that surrounds us.

The animals are killed for their tusks, despite the ban in force since 1989 on international trade in ivory.

The religious sentiment is one of the reasons for the slaughter of elephants.

I do not know religions that allow the slaughter of innocent animals but I know the joy and inner peace that can 'give a sunset with hundreds of elephants roaming freely in open spaces. Let's preserve this.

I found this plow sitting on the old ramp at CSXT's little Pittsfield Yard and used it to capture my sentiment. I sure wish something would eat these ubiquitous GATX blue lease units and give us matched yellow and green Housatonic power back!

But I'll shoot what I can get in 2021 so here is HRRC train NX12 up from Canaan with GP38-2s 2627 (originally a straight GP38 blt Jan 1971 as Penn Central 7916) and 2328 (blt in Feb 1966 as Illinois Central GP40 number 3011) they have just cut away from their little six car train on Main 1 of the old Boston and Albany just west of CP147 on modern day CSXT's Berkshire Sub. They will couple to their big pick up and start switching up the the half mile long stub of the old B&A North Adams branch that remains in service as far as the former crossing over Route 9.

If you wish to learn about the history of the railroad in general please check out the long form caption with this shot on a different day:

Reminds me of the poem Rainer Maria Rilke (autumn)

The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,

as if orchards were dying high in space.

Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."

And tonight the heavy earth is falling

away from all other stars in the loneliness.

We're all falling. This hand here is falling.

And look at the other one. It's in them all.

And yet there is Someone, whose hands

infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.

As photographers we often grapple with the notion that familiar surroundings offer nothing new to photograph, a sentiment I’ve encountered even in my own backyard of Fort Langley. Despite its small size and intimate charm, I’ve spent decades capturing the essence of our little village increasing the challenge of finding fresh content. The key, lies not in the grandeur of the locale but in the depth of observation and creativity. By shifting focus from static landmarks, to people, moments and perspective, I’ve discovered many new photographic opportunities. Whether it’s exploring the nuances of everyday life through street photography or delving into the hidden beauty of minute details with a macro lens, there’s always something new to discover—even in the most familiar of settings. So, while Fort Langley remains my muse, the lesson extends beyond its borders: photographic inspiration is not bound by geography but by the willingness to see the world with fresh eyes and an open heart.
