The spark of knowledge was ignited early in life for young Mandrake; his burning desire to understand the mechanisms driving the universe and life within it inspired him to teach himself to read (by candlelight) in Ancient Greek as well as English, German, French, and Chinese, so as to more fully grasp the essential sentiments of civilization's greatest thinkers.
Mandrake rushed through the Greeks (though Plato gave him pause) and picked through Machiavelli's minefield. He lingered for a time with the tenets of Buddhist thought until the throes of adolescence propelled him into th turbulent seas of Sartre, Nietzsche, and Kierkegaard. Then, after a wild romp through the works of Voltaire, Mandrake went on to dismantle Descartes and delve into the linguistic labyrinth of Wittgenstein's Investigations.
Though perfectly happy to converse in Jungian archetypes or traverse Campbell's mythological maps, the brooding and heady Mandrake is most renowned for his own complex philosophies. Too tangled and inaccessible to detail in print, the rhetoric developed by our Philosopher has convincingly illuminated near-blinding truths about our own existence. Perhaps more amazing than the breadth of his intellectual accomplishments, however, is the fact that Mandrake, with his intense yet soft-spoken demeanor, has demonstrated in a matter of minutes his ability to unravel and elucidate the key points of these esoteric breakthroughs to even the most plebeian audiences.
With these extraordinary strengths, the only explanation for Mandrake's relative obscurity is the simple fact that the simplification of life's intricacies into intelligible axioms has the potential to halt many of the more profitable and insidious mechanisms of government and commerce. When the realization of this possibility reached certain powerful entities, Mandrake was forced to take refuge from persistent forces that sought to effect his silence at any cost.
He approached the Red Suit Enthusiasts when he recognized in their organization the actualization of many of his most crucial precepts. He has chosen to remain among us for more than merely the protections afforded him, and has found in turn a band of acolytes dedicated to the same furthering of truth and knowledge that brought him to where he is today.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today cautioned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) not to play with the sentiments of people of Punjab on crucial SYL issue which is a lifeline for them. He appealed to the people not to fall into the trap of its convener Arvind Kejriwal as he has been proven as an enemy of Punjabis on the contentious matter.
Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of distributing health insurance cards to traders under Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna, S. Badal said on one hand Kejriwal is professing to be championing the cause of Punjab farmers while in Punjab whereas he stabs them in the back by changing his tune favouring Haryana on reaching Delhi.
Further castigating AAP leader, S. Badal said that how would Kejriwal explain the fat salaries, red beacons atop their vehicles and other facilities enjoyed by his party MLA’s whereas earlier he had sworn not to avail such amenities. Deputy CM also said the sensible people of Punjab won’t fall into the trap of Kejriwal because they very well know that who is their true well-wisher and who is a bluffer.
Questioning the credentials of Congress party, Deputy Chief Minister said Congress is day dreaming about returning to power but its principal face in the state and PPCC president Captain Amarinder Singh is not accessible to the people of his constituency. He also disclosed that Congress in indulging in playing dirty game of blaming SAD-BJP government because it has got no developmental issue to raise before the public. He also lambasted congress for branding entire youth of Punjab as drug addicts.
On the issue of foodgrains procurement, he clarified that accounts have not been reconciled since 1997, so there is only somewhat mismatching of accounts and there is no laxity on the part of state government. He said the RBI would soon release cash credit limit to the state as Chief Minister S. parkash Singh Badal has recently held a special meeting with Prime Minister.
Elaborating the welfare schemes for the traders community S. Badal said that Punjab government has become number one state in the country to provide best policies and inspector free business environment to the dealers of the state. He said the schemes like traders' health insurance, Rahat and star rating scheme have not only developed business friendly atmosphere but also provided needed security to the traders.
He informed that Punjab has launched this scheme to provide triple insurance cover to 2.33 lakh traders having annual turnover up to Rs. 1 Crore. This scheme will provide accidental and disability cover of Rs. 5 Lakh to the trader besides providing a health cover of Rs, 50,000 to him and his all dependent family members. This scheme also includes fire insurance cover of Rs. 5 Lakh for any fire incident at the business premises of the trader.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and Punjab BJP President Mr. Vijay Sampla said the amount of developmental works undertaken by the SAD-BJP government would remain unparalleled in the annals of Punjab. He also expressed hope that the people of the state would again express confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister, S. Parkash Singh Badal and elect him to power for the record 6th time.
On the occasion, chief parliamentary secretaries Pawan Kumar Tinu and Sarup Chand Singla, MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Media Advisor to Deputy CM Jangveer Singh and Assistant Media Advisor to CM Vineet Joshi, ETC Rajat Aggarwal, DC Kamal Kishore Yadav and Divisional Commissioner Harbhupinder Singh Nanda were also present.

Que papel para o Estado na Economia? Esta é a questão que serve de mote ao título da apresentação “Liberalismo com sentimentos morais”. Com ela, remontamos ao tempo da economia enquanto ciência social e política, e utilizamos os problemas com que Portugal se confronta na actualidade como ilustração. Colocando em perspectiva os constrangimentos estruturais da nossa economia, o debate que propomos apresenta, num frente-a-frente, o “Estado que queremos” com o “Estado que podemos”.

Álvaro Nascimento é professor de Finanças da Faculdade de Economia e Gestão, da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto, onde foi director durante seis anos. Actualmente é, também, presidente do Conselho de Administração da Caixa Geral de Depósitos e vogal do Conselho Fiscal da Unicer. Consultor de empresas de serviços financeiros e telecomunicações em assuntos de concorrência e regulação. Tem interesses de investigação e publicações nos temas de regulação de mercados financeiros e telecomunicações. Doutorado em Finanças pela Cass Business School (Londres) e mestre em International Trade and Finance pela Universidade de Lancaster (UK). Foi investigador na London Business School em assuntos de regulação e concorrência. Economista líder em algumas das maiores operações de M&A em Portugal e consultor em empresas financeiras. Realizou projectos para a Autoridade da Concorrência e Entidade Reguladora da Saúde, entre outros e participou em vários seminários e conferências para audiências profissionais em assuntos relacionados com avaliação de activos, risco financeiros e regulação dos sectores financeiros e de telecomunicações. No passado, foi assessor do Ministro da Educação para assuntos económicos sobre a reorganização da rede de escolas o ensino básico e secundário. Como director da Faculdade de Economia e Gestão, assumiu a seu cargo a direcção da Católica Porto Business School, tendo lançado as bases para a acreditação e a internacionalização, mobilizando várias escolas de negócios da rede de universidades Católicas no mundo da lusofonia em torno do MBA Atlântico, um projecto de MBA destinado a formar e preparar quadros empresariais vocacionados para o mundo global dos negócios. Em 2012, o movimento daria origem à criação formal da Católica Business Schools Alliance entre as Universidades Católicas no Porto e em Luanda, e a um processo de alargamento ao Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), Beira (Moçambique) e Macau (China).
