IR distance sensor on the front of my bot.

The wind direction sensor is compact and lightweight, easy to carry and assemble, and the three-cup design concept allows effective access to external environmental information. The body is made of polycarbonate composite material, providing excellent corrosion and erosion resistance and ensuring the instrument is rust-free for long periods of time. The smooth internal bearing system ensures accurate information collection. It can be used for wind direction measurement in greenhouses, environmental protection, weather stations, ships, docks, farming, and other environments. I didnt mean to get that bit of her hahaa,

i just took it and moved it round lol

This is a series of pictures made 15 years ago during a professional 10-day trip to China from December 4 to December 14, 2009 through Hong-Kong, Wuhan, Shangaï and Beijing for the promotion of scientific (chemistry) doctoral programs of my University and Faculty.

At that time, I brought along with me my Canon PowerShot G10, a compact digital camera that followed the G9 in September 2008. I initially used this camera for an underwater photography equipment with a specific aluminum housing and submersible Sea&Sea flash. The Canon G10b sensor is a very small 1x1.7 inch (7,6x5,7 mm) CCD with a top resolution of 14.7 Mpixels giving 4415 x 3312 pixels images. The Canon G10 is equipped with a zoom lens 6.1 to 30.5 mm f/2.8-4.5 equivalent to a 28-140mm focal length for 24x36 mm format.

I have still this camera in my collection with a back-up one after my SCUBA diving trip to New-Caledonia in January 2014 where the camera was contaminated by salt water at the end of my stay, causing some problems that were however correctly repaired when returned to France.

All the views are the camera-rendered JPEG (at that time I did not know how to process the RAW files). I re-edited slightly them today in the latest version of Adobe Lightroom Classic (version 14.1.1). As usual, all views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg

In work that could someday turn cell phones into sensors capable of detecting viruses and other minuscule objects, MIT researchers have built a powerful nanoscale flashlight on a chip.

Their approach to designing the tiny light beam on a chip could also be used to create a variety of other nano flashlights with different beam characteristics for different applications. Think of a wide spotlight versus a beam of light focused on a single point.

For many decades, scientists have used light to identify a material by observing how that light interacts with the material. They do so by essentially shining a beam of light on the material, then analyzing that light after it passes through the material. Because all materials interact with light differently, an analysis of the light that passes through the material provides a kind of “fingerprint” for that material. Imagine doing this for several colors — i.e., several wavelengths of light — and capturing the interaction of light with the material for each color. That would lead to a fingerprint that is even more detailed.

Most instruments for doing this, known as spectrometers, are relatively large. Making them much smaller would have a number of advantages. For example, they could be portable and have additional applications (imagine a futuristic cell phone loaded with a self-contained sensor for a specific gas).

The Lora wireless sensor package in its enclosure. The hot shoe is just there as a way of mounting them and I now need another ground plate making up to match the one on the right. The camo tape is only there to hold the parts of the cowl together as this will hopefully serve to limit the sideways field of view and prevent images being taken before the subject enters the frame. The 1200mA/H lithium battery is inside the lid of the case and the on/off switch is similarly fitted. Fully charged, the sensor will run for about a week but it's recharged in a few hours via a USB mini port inside the case. The Lora transmitter does monitor and transmit the battery voltage but at the moment I don't make use of this. There's no external indication that the sensor is on or off and that might come back to bite me later! In use they aren't exposed to the elements and are in a small plastic food bag. These devices are deliberately uncomplicated and just trigger our respective camera traps if anything warm wanders in front of them. Detection range of about 5m is greater than I would have liked hence the peripheral view limiting via the cowl. In use they're placed at 90 degrees to the camera lens axis so act in a similar fashion to a break-beam.
