It is 1927, and young German diplomat Peter von Saloman and his family are posted to Canton in China, only to find themselves caught up in vicious political turmoil which soon leads to a violent encounter with rebel communists. Cured of crippling injuries by ancient Chinese medicine, their young son Adam soon emerges as a boy with unusual spirit - and very special gifts. On their return to their homeland, the Von Salomans find themselves caught up in the rise of the Nazis in the prelude to World War II. Peter, his beautiful wife Kathe and young Adam will need all the courage and wisdom they learned in China to survive the iniquities of the Third Reich. Long after the war, when her professor boss and lover dies of cancer, Katerina Lindemann discovers that he is not at all the man she thought he was, and that the two of them share an unexpected link with the Von Salomans and their stand against the Nazis. This thrilling and intriguing story will draw the reader into an ingenious and stirring tale of fascism and bravery, love and loyalty.

Timothy Leary’s famous exhortation in 1968 to ‘turn on, tune in, drop out’ has been blamed for persuading the masses to play with drugs, but the truth is that by the time of the ‘Summer of Love’ we had already been experimenting with them for thousands of years. Now chemist John Mann has responded to the continuing fascination with psychedelic, narcotic and euphoriant substances by setting out a fascinating and colourful history of their discovery and use. This book tells the story of mind-altering drugs over the centuries, from the poets and artists who produced their work under the influence of opium to the posturing of modern politicians, the iniquities of the international drug trade and the wild excesses of the 1960s and 70s.

The first novel in an incredible fantasy trilogy set in a world of gods, tyrants and kings. The people of the ancient land of Modania find themselves threatened as the scheming Lord Zelfen prepares to claim it under his dominion. The creation of three wizards, tasked with protecting the elements, the land and the innocent people of Modania, may not be enough to protect the peaceful realm. Little do any of the powerful forces and faces of Modania know that the fate of them all rests in the hands of a simple forest boy and a strange, terrible beast to which he is mysteriously bound. If Lord Zelfen’s onslaught is to be resisted it will require the forging of a powerful allegiance. The boy named Birch must be found and he must understand who he really is. Birch – The Beginning is the first novel in the Birch Trilogy, set in the enthralling magical world of Modania. Savage conflicts, ancient spells and arcane prophecies push the boundaries of fantasy as the future of the realm depends on one strange young boy and his mysterious feline ally.

As a young detective constable, Constantine Buller was appalled by the corruption and the callous games some of his colleagues liked to play on unsuspecting members of the public, so he left the Force. But the bent coppers he had snubbed had long memories. A few years later his new life as a successful businessman collapsed in ruins when they set him up by fabricating evidence for a non existent crime. The result was five years of prison hell, during which, as an ex-copper in jail, he was intimidated, beaten, humiliated and degraded. Yet thanks to his physical and moral strength, his extraordinary courage and a new-found faith in God, Constantine survived to begin a new life with a new partner and to found a branch of the Orthodox Christian Church.

The building and repair work carried out by dangerously incompetent and unscrupulous builders, often known as “cowboys,” is widely reported in newspapers and investigations into their nefarious activities are popular and thought-provoking television documentaries. This publicity helps to warn the unwary of the misery, unjustifiable costs and even death that can result by employing unskilled building workers to carry out improvements and, often-unnecessary, repairs to their homes. The cowboy builder will always ask for “cash-up-front” before he starts to work. Later, he will ask for more cash, because he “underestimated the work and material needed to finish the job”. If the householder is unable or unwilling to part with more money, the cowboy will leave the property in such a state that it is an unsafe dwelling.

When H.G Wells published his science-fiction classic

The War of the Worlds, we were seized by a global

fascination with extra-terrestrial life. The age of the alien

had begun. In All About Aliens, the truth about alien life

is revealed. From the origins of the alien concept from

ancient myth right up to our ongoing hunt for cosmic

neighbours in the modern day, this book is full of

information that will give alien enthusiasts or sceptics

plenty to think about.

Ever wondered what an alien would really look like? What

is the truth behind crop circles and UFO sightings? Is it

scientifically possible for other life to exist? Answering

these questions and many more, this book takes an

honest look at our bug-eyed green friends and distinguishes the sense from the pseudoscience in this easy-to-read book on aliens.

The All About series tackles those intriguing topics we all love to think about. All About Aliens takes a close look into that most fascinating

of question: are we really alone in the universe?
