Week Thirteen/Fifty-two: 3.26.10 - 4.1.10
Journaling has always been cathartic for me. Ever since I was a little girl, I have kept a journal. I used to think that I would be a writer like Laura Ingalls Wilder, and I wanted to have journals recording the events of my life that I could look back at later and use as material for my novels. Later, writing became a way to deal with my feelings when they were overwhelming, which was a lot of the time. In high school I journaled constantly - I carried my journals everywhere and I wrote a lot. I also started writing poems and stories, and I have notebooks full of those as well, but I mostly kept them separate from my journal writing.
In college, my journaling went electronic. I started a livejournal, then a myspace, and eventually a facebook page. Journaling became public - something for everyone else's consumption. This was not a bad thing. One of the major reasons I journaled was because I felt like I had no one to talk to about the things I was feeling. So, I wrote. Electronic journaling became a way to share thoughts and feelings from a safe place - really me, but protected behind a screen. There is an emotional dissociation that people tend to have with electronic text that let me post whatever I wanted and share what was in my mind, and still not feel like I was being too revealing, even though the people reading what I was writing knew me in real life.
And now, it's back to paper again. My photos have become a journal of sorts. Some chronicling my daily adventures, others taken for their emotive or evocative qualities, and still others thought and sight experiments to let me refine my own aesthetic vision and technical abilities.

During the months in rehab it never occurred to me that I was still vulnerable. Once I'd crossed the threshold I never craved drink, never sought a way out, never thought that I maybe need a few more months to prepare for this, never hoped that I'd be able to go back to some sort of 'social' drinking. I had no idea how rehab & recovery worked but guessed that 'work' was a useful way to start. So I worked. I made lists, typed autobiographies, wrote letters to myself in the future, visualised, created affirmations, started on 'self-talk', read psychology old & new, revised child development, reprised history, created scenarios, lived the life of sobriety. I played at being sober & whole; or at least my idea of it.

Puff-uppies. What are they? They are specifically white males in their
40's who have put on a noticeable amount of weight since their younger days
yet they still seem to get acting work. Not that I have remained svelte
since my high school days. There's a picture of me with a full head of
hair and a thin frame that has made the rounds on facebook that I know
screams bygone era. Anyway, you gotta love puff-uppies. Next on the list
to love, baldies. Baldies, okay. Skinheads, no.
Today we hear from Madame Rootabega, Valentino, and Bison Bentley, PLUS
it's the return of the much loved feature WOW SCHATZ WOW where we look at
some surprising stories from the world of HEALTH!
Next show I'll have a very interesting interview with a woman who does
something for a living that will fascinate you, and I will do the interview
from an extraordinary spot on the globe. It's all part of the segment
called MIKE ON MOBILE! Plus we'll hear from Chely Shoehart, Floyd the
Floorman, and John Deer the Engineer!

I wanted to make a snow man that looked real. Everybody that drives by or walks by slows down when they see it.
Hugh Grant lead off the celebrations for the charity www.healthtalkonline.org on the South Bank in London by launching a fund-raising appeal with the co-founder Dr Ann McPherson
Bhagavad-Gita is the most beautiful, perhaps the only true philosophical song existing in any known tongue’ – so opined William von Humboldt, who wrote seven-hundred verses in its praise.
In this modern rendition, the beauty of the Sanskrit slokas is reflected in the rhythmic flow of the English verse of poetic proportions even as the attendant philosophy of the song that is Bhagvad-Gita is captured in contemporary idiom for easy comprehension.
It is a matter of consensus that Bhagvad-Gita in the present length of seven hundred slokas has many an interpolation to it, but no meaningful attempt has ever been made to delve into the nature and extent, not to speak of the effect of these on the Hindu society at large. The methodical codification of interpolations carried out here, for the first time ever, puts the true character of Gita in proper perspective. Identified here are hundred and ten slokas of deviant nature and or of partisan character, the source of so much misunderstanding about Bhagvad-Gita, the book extraordinary, in certain sections of the Hindu fold. In the long run, exposing and expunging these mischievous insertions is bound to bring in new readers from these quarters to this over two millennia old classic besides altering the misconceptions of the existing adherents.

Truth to tell I walked into a job that turned out as the most challenging, most rewarding, most frustrating, most creative, most fun, most affirming experience that I was able to recall. I worked with the most disturbed, most challenging children & the most creative, most supportive colleagues I'd ever known. I'd never worked as hard nor ever felt that I wanted to; I'd never learned so much that I thought I already knew. I began teaching & learning again & it felt as exciting as it had thirty years before. I had finally gone back to something in a previous life but it was a different kind of 'previous'.
