The spiritual ethos and the philosophical outlook that the Bhagvad - Gita postulates paves the way for the liberation of man, who, as Rousseau said, ‘being born free, is everywhere in chains’. But equally it is a mirror of human psychology, which enables man to discern his debilities for appropriate redressal. All the same, the boon of an oral tradition that kept it alive for over two millennia became its bane with the proliferation of interpolations therein. Besides muddying its pristine philosophy, these insertions affect the sequential conformity and structural economy of the grand discourse. What is worse, to the chagrin of the majority of the Hindus, some of these legitimize the inimical caste system while upholding the priestly perks and prejudices. This rendition seeks to restore to the Gita, its original character by ridding it of hundred and ten interpolations, which tend to keep the skeptics away from it. And ironically these muddle the understanding as well. In the theatre of man as nothing surpasses the drama of war, the stage for unveiling the Gita’s unrivalled philosophy was set on the battleground of Kurukshetra at the threshold of the battle of Mahabharata.

Rufus “Catfish” Mayfield, a youthful community activist and chair of Pride, Inc.—the black job training and employment organization that Marion Barry helped organize—is shown in an undated photograph at an unknown location circa 1967.
Mayfield gained prominence as an activist in the city when he led a campaign against police brutality in the spring of 1967 after a friend was shot and killed by police.
After police officer William L. Ruff shot and killed Clarence Booker in Northeast Washington, D.C., the 20-year-old Mayfield led a series of protests, including a sit-in demanding a citizens inquiry into the shooting.
A grand jury was convened, but no indictment returned.
The confrontations, however, caught the eye of former D.C. Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee chair Marion Barry.
Barry quit SNCC earlier in the year, took a job with the United Planning Organization and was looking for ways to further black economic empowerment.
He teamed up with Mayfield and Mary Treadwell to form Pride, Inc. on a $300,000 grant to put inner city young people to work during a summer jobs program.
Mayfield became chairman of the board and the chief spokesperson for Pride and led the effort of 1,000 youths in green uniforms to clean up litter, clear weeds and remove trash from a number of targeted neighborhoods during the summer of 1967.
The choice of Mayfield led Rep. Joel Broyhill (D-Va.) to blast Pride, Inc.
He said the U.S. Department of Labor, which provided the funding, was “guilty of a direct and deliberate affront to the House and Senate of the United States Congress in placing convicted felon Rufus Mayfield in a position of guidance and authority over 900 District of Columbia youth.”
Broyhill also attacked the program for paying $56 a week which he said would “undoubtedly be more than the fathers earn in many instances.”
Mayfield survived Broyhill’s attack and the Pride ultimately received $1 million more in funding to carry the program through for a full year.
However, the District police charged him in separate incidents with assault and auto theft in arrests that were covered widely in the local press, although charges were ultimately dropped in both cases.
By November, Mayfield resigned from Pride—under internal pressure, according to Mayfield. Treadwell, Barry and executive director Carroll Harvey allegedly were taking the organization in a direction that Mayfield disagreed with, although whatever differences existed were never spelled out publicly.
While his star shined brightly for only a few months, Mayfield was responsible for inspiring young people in the District and in launching what became Marion Barry’s summer jobs for youth program.
He later found work as a stand-up comedian before Mayor Marion Barry gave him a job as a community relations specialist in 1985 with the Department of Human Services.
Mayfield briefly resurfaced publicly in 1991 when he led a campaign against newly-elected Mayor Sharon Pratt Dixon’s effort to fire 2,000 District employees grade DS-11 and above. Mayfield lost the battle to keep his job, but was rehired to the D.C. government in 1995 where he helped lead an immunization campaign for D.C. children among other responsibilities.
Mayfield has continued to remain active in D.C. political life, campaigning more recently for Muriel Bowser, but he will probably best be remembered for the fiery youth who sought to uplift District of Columbia young people.

Ruminate: to think deeply about something.
The relationship that I have with my mother is far from perfect. I'm sure even from an outside perspective, my mother and I don't seem very close. Since I could remember, my mother and I have always been bickering back and forth between each other. However, through on my healing path, I've come to learn to recognise when I need to stop arguing and submit all of the emotions and disagreements to God to handle and show me how to better handle the hard situations.
I'm really not perfect, I can admit to that. I know I fuck up. I have my moments when instead of truly listening, I react upon my emotions. I accidentally allow my stresses to show through in the things that I do or to the people I'm with. However, I'm working to change all that with prayer, mindfulness, gardening and self care.
Now that I'm older and off of reflecting on it all, I can contribute a good chunk of the bickering that happens between my mother and I due to the fact that we have just about the same personalities. We're Cancers, only a day apart. We're highly emotional and sensitive. When we have a perspective and feel strongly about it, it usually takes some repeated advice and trial by error in order for us come to our senses that we may have been wrong.
The hard part with my mother for me at the moment is that I can't seem to talk to my mother as an adult/mother without her seeing me still as a young girl who doesn't really know much. I've been blessed with her helping me raise my son in his earlier years, while I was young and dumb, which allowed me to grow out of most of my childish antics. Examples of this would be all the times she took care of my son while I was off galavanting, partying, or just being a young adult.
While I am eternally grateful, I can't help but get upset or not want to talk to her at all when we have our flair ups and we can't seem to meet eye to eye. I use to Ruminate over all these tough experiences (mother, love life, work, etc.), causing me to be clouded or to lose sleep. I now handle it a whole lot better compared to before. Instead of keeping it all bottled inside, I'm finding ways to give up the negativity that comes with the stress. I pray often, I go outside and talk to the plants as I care for them, I make more time for my creativity, and I reflect and I write.. you get the point.
With all of these trials, emotions and tears - I've come to realise that helping my mother is most likely the cross that I have to carry in order to become the better person that God & the Universe intended me to become. Instead of always pointing the finger to my mother or others, I'm doing my best to stop and look at myself first and my faults. I slip from time to time with this load, but instead of allowing myself to drown in it, I'm remembering to pause for a few breaths and to trust in what the Lord & the Universe has in mind for my growth.
This is all I can write out at the moment. I hope that reading this helps you in some way, as writing this has helped me.

Rufus “Catfish” Mayfield, the chair of the board of Pride, Inc., gives a speech to hundreds of District of Columbia young people at Terrell Junior High School August 5, 1967 during the launch of the group’s inner-city jobs program.
“We’re going to prove something to the white power structure…that we as black people can stand up on our own,” Mayfield told the crowd.
Mayfield gained prominence as an activist in the city when he led a campaign against police brutality in the spring of 1967 after a friend was shot and killed by police.
After police officer William L. Ruff shot and killed Clarence Booker in Northeast Washington, D.C., the 20-year-old Mayfield led a series of protests, including a sit-in demanding a citizens inquiry into the shooting.
A grand jury was convened, but no indictment returned.
The confrontations, however, caught the eye of former D.C. Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee chair Marion Barry.
Barry quit SNCC earlier in the year, took a job with the United Planning Organization and was looking for ways to further black economic empowerment.
He teamed up with Mayfield and Mary Treadwell to form Pride, Inc. on a $300,000 grant to put inner city young people to work during a summer jobs program.
Mayfield became chairman of the board and the chief spokesperson for Pride and led the effort of 1,000 youths in green uniforms to clean up litter, clear weeds and remove trash from a number of targeted neighborhoods during the summer of 1967.
The choice of Mayfield led Rep. Joel Broyhill (D-Va.) to blast Pride, Inc.
He said the U.S. Department of Labor, which provided the funding, was “guilty of a direct and deliberate affront to the House and Senate of the United States Congress in placing convicted felon Rufus Mayfield in a position of guidance and authority over 900 District of Columbia youth.”
Broyhill also attacked the program for paying $56 a week which he said would “undoubtedly be more than the fathers earn in many instances.”
Mayfield survived Broyhill’s attack and the Pride ultimately received $1 million more in funding to carry the program through for a full year.
However, the District police charged him in separate incidents with assault and auto theft in arrests that were covered widely in the local press, although charges were ultimately dropped in both cases.
By November, Mayfield resigned from Pride—under internal pressure, according to Mayfield. Treadwell, Barry and executive director Carroll Harvey allegedly were taking the organization in a direction that Mayfield disagreed with, although whatever differences existed were never spelled out publicly.
While his star shined brightly for only a few months, Mayfield was responsible for inspiring young people in the District and in launching what became Marion Barry’s summer jobs for youth program.
He later found work as a stand-up comedian before Mayor Marion Barry gave him a job as a community relations specialist in 1985 with the Department of Human Services.
Mayfield briefly resurfaced publicly in 1991 when he led a campaign against newly-elected Mayor Sharon Pratt Dixon’s effort to fire 2,000 District employees grade DS-11 and above. Mayfield lost the battle to keep his job, but was rehired to the D.C. government in 1995 where he helped lead an immunization campaign for D.C. children among other responsibilities.
Mayfield has continued to remain active in D.C. political life, campaigning more recently for Muriel Bowser, but he will probably best be remembered for the fiery youth who sought to uplift District of Columbia young people.

It was there referred to as the Argentine Rummy game by Ottilie H. Reilly in 1949 and Michael Scully of Coronet magazine in 1953. About half of the Novel Library series was devoted to "Love Novels," a category of spicy romances pioneered by the Depression-era Lending Library publishers. Most of the remainder comprised sensational novels from the 1930's and 40's plus a few lurid "hardboiled" mysteries, all with the same sexy packaging that gives the imprint a uniform veneer of sleaziness. The inclusion of the canasta book is inexplicable.

Lots of strokes for Right Brain people in this business self-help book. Author then proceeds to sell your soul as usual. Starts with the premise that the future of American jobs will take a big hit hit because of three factors Abundance, Asia and Automation. Particularly those information era jobs which we thought were our just desserts in the age of globalization. But no more. Now the MFA (masters of fine arts) will be the new MBA so touts the author repeatedly.
Those Left Brain linear people who were formerly so successful because of number crunching brain power, code breaking logic and legalese word smithing, will now find themselves replaced by cheaper info-tech workers in Asia and Quicken-like software and boilerplate legal contracts online. In other words lawyers, accountants and computer geeks will find their customers going elsewhere and doing stuff themselves with user friendly software just as travel agents and car salesman lost their jobs to the power of the Internet. Thus the Information Age, (and the tech age) will succumb to the Conceptual Age, so the author declares.
Abundance in consumer goods means that the only thing that distinguishes one widget from another is good design or "high concept, high touch" features and the only thing that will keep clients coming to a lawyer or an accountant over using a software program is human contact and care taking. The author then proceeds to teach the proper Right Brain attributes to these former achievement oriented nerds including good design, empathy, playfulness and ability to dispense meaning. This is the soul selling part because it has nothing to do with art or human inspiration or meaning. It has only to do with product and marketing.
Thus the MFA is a red herring. Just because doctors make better diagnosis if they have spent time looking at paintings does not mean that they are going to get a Masters of Fine Arts instead of doing pre-med. Future business people are not going to get an MFA either although they might start taking art classes in an attempt to glean cultural substance or rip off some mythology to write their motivational Chicken Soup for the MBA Soul book.
And design the way he describes it was not taught in the Fine Arts department. My design degree was a Bachelor of Science degree. It's true lots of creative writing majors ended up writing blurbs for catalogs or doing technical writing, but they weren't necessarily happy about it. But seriously, designers have always been a part of business; that's why Mad Men is such a conceptually popular TV series.
Having gnawed on his ankles a bit, I think the author has made a very provocative case and I find myself thinking about this book quite often because I have taken my Right Brain attributes and built for myself a high touch, high concept business full of meaning making and storytelling in which I use language and metaphor to motivate and inspire people to clean up their lives. Not only that, when it comes to marketing, it turns out that being a larger than life character full of eccentric and idiosyncratic habits is now, in this era of social marketing, the key to standing out in a crowd of standard issue, business suit wearing consultants with string of letters after names. Author does not put it this way. His narrative is in the tradition of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People which makes reading this book feel like yet another hackneyed, simplistic, problem solving, rah rah, standard issue, self-help book with absolutely no meaning except to figure out how to make a living.
Speaking of good product design I really like these new books on tape they have at the library. You use your own headsets and provide the battery and you can amp up the sound much higher than music players. Doesn't have enough bookstops though.
