Listening to the Johan S. Detox-club mix of Twin's Star Wars theme makes me want to embroider my pants. (Is there a selfhelp group for this? Or at least a facebook group?!)

“My whole life is a struggle. When I was a child I had leprosy and ulcers. Then I lost my parents. Then I lost my husband. Now I’m involved with tailoring for rest of life...I have to get food for myself, there’s no one to help me. But I don’t want to marry again. If I hadn't had leprosy, then maybe I would be educated and be able to get a job. Life is not joyful.”

Designed by Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1917, this neighborhood was created industrialist Clayton Mark. It was a planned community, middle class, with the goal of providing affordable housing, retail and a school. Unfortunately, industry exploded in the area. Refineries, steel, chemical plants. The community is surrounded on all sides. Square blocks have been demolished, the retail cornerstone is abandoned and crumbling (that's where I shot these photos.) Most of the houses are falling apart. Those families that remain, mostly Hispanic, are doing their best to maintain what they have. Difficult, since much is abandoned.

Many are townhouses - one side of the house is abandoned, rotting, roof caved in, while on the other side of the common wall, is a nicely maintained home. Sad, really.

Photographed for the Crazy Tuesday theme "visualize a beatles song title". The song of course is Fixing a Hole from the magnificient Beatles 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. The painting just about covered it! Problem solved :)

for years, scott and i have been attempting to eat as healthily as possible, and try to follow a mediterranean-based diet. we are pretty good as long as we're cooking, but we do also love chocolate, fish & chips, ice cream sandwiches...you get the picture. i am trying to jump-start my creativity in the kitchen again (i love cooking and i do it every night!) by trying out new recipes that follow the mediterranean formula more closely. plus, i am learning new things about fats and cholesterol, carbs...it's fun.

tonight's dinner: yellowfin tuna steaks w/ a sauce made of sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil, flat-leaf parsley, & garlic; steamed broccoli; and brown rice. yum! i really am full, too.

...too bad i also bought ice cream sandwiches tonight. ;-)

Just Do It, Kid is a middle-school student's survival guide to the tough adolescent years and the obstacles that so many young people face today. The third and final book in Dr. Teal's series of self-help books for `tweens and young teens, Go for It, Kid addresses serious and sometimes difficult topics in clear, accessible terms with plenty of engaging examples. Dr. Teal skillfully guides confused, anxious or just curious young people to make wise decisions that will have a positive effect on their future. Topics covered in this concluding volume include sportsmanship; shoplifting; character and reputation; delaying gratification; showing respect, and much, much more. A "must-have" book for this age group, and a wonderful gift idea for parents, grandparents, teachers and any adult close to a teen.

I've used the book and remedies twice this morning . First I dropped a dinner plate on my toe and immediately took arnica, internally and externally. Next I poured the boiling syrup for my granola bars over my fingers and used arnica for shock and cantharis for pain. I used CALENDULA gel for quick healing.

Book by author Mark Manson - A counterintuitive approach to living a good life

Many people do 'Lakshmi pujan' for more money. But does that really bring more money? Honesty and a law-abiding nature will bring more money. Cheating and stealing money from others will do no good.

Pujya Niruma in this video says, money may be important for people, but it is not the ultimate. Whatever wealth we have, should be used for good and noble causes. Money used for the benefit of others, multiplies and comes back to us. Money should be used in good causes, it should be used for humanity. Learn more about the science of money and helping others:
