I have to go spring shopping… I love LI shops… but I have to keep myself from going to LI because one town has my favorite croissants & the second town has my favorite Italian restaurant! When it comes to French croissants & Italian food, my self-control is as low as traveling to the Shere‼️❤️ Now that Sphere travel is no longer an option… I didn’t have time to go I was in Las Vegas every other week now it bothers me again…
"Early on a difficult climb, especially a difficult solo climb, you constantly feel the abyss pulling at your back. To resist takes a tremendous conscious effort; you don't dare let your guard down for an instant. The siren song of the void puts you on edge; it makes your movements tentative, clumsy, herky-jerky. But as the climb goes on, you grow accustomed to the exposure, you get used to rubbing shoulders with doom, you come to believe in the reliability of your hands and feet and head. You learn to trust your self-control. By and by your attention becomes so intensely focused that you no longer notice the raw knuckles, the cramping thighs, the strain of maintaining nonstop concentration. A trancelike state settles over your efforts; the climb becomes a clear-eyed dream. Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence—the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes—all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose and by the seriousness of the task at hand. At such moments something resembling happiness actually stirs in your chest, but it isn't the sort of emotion you want to lean on very hard. In solo climbing the whole enterprise is held together with little more than chutzpah, not the most reliable adhesive. " ~ Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild, Ch 14

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
Mount of God's redeeming love.
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I'm come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
1. If you could hie to Kolob
In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward
With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever,
Through all eternity,
Find out the generation
Where Gods began to be?
2. Or see the grand beginning,
Where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation,
Where Gods and matter end?
Methinks the Spirit whispers,
“No man has found ‘pure space,’
Nor seen the outside curtains,
Where nothing has a place.”
If you could hie to Kolob
In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward
With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever,
Through all eternity,
Find out the generation
Where Gods began to be?
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above

Flynn sitting under the window of our town's Heritage Centre/museum... I don't think it's known what it's original use was but the building was used as a grammar school from the 1400s to the mid-1800s. It's rather hard to photograph straight on, as the cobbled street the building sits on is rather narrow - I was backed up as far as I could to take this, without backing into someone's house! If you look closely though - through the glass of the (modern!) window, you can actually see a model of the entire building :)
We often pass the museum, as it's on the way to the woods & I often think I'd like to take a photo of Flynn outside the building - but it's proved difficult - not just because of the narrowness of the street either. The whole little street is picturesque, with nice old buildings lining both sides & so more often than not, there are people milling about... It's tricky to find a quiet moment when no-one else is around, so I can leave Flynn in a stay & take the time to get a picture (of course, on days I *don't* bring my camera - that's when we walk up & the place is deserted!)!
I took this hurriedly, while, amazingly, we had the street to ourselves but it was still a hard test of self control for Flynnie! He's staring longingly down the street, not at the woods but in the direction of town - where he knows my (our!) friend arrives from. We meet her fairly often for little walks together & she's one of a small handful of humans who Flynn adores! I'd told him she would be joining us & what Flynn *really* wanted to be doing was dragging me back down the street, to see if we could find her! However, he resisted temptation & held his sit nicely, not move an inch - even when he knew I only had a very light hold on the lead :)

"Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind and spirit. The man who preserves his selfhood is ever calm and unshaken by the storms of existence ... What are the fruits of silence? They are self-control, true courage or endurance, patience, dignity and reverence. Silence is the cornerstone of character."

2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
2 Timothy 3:12-17 NIV
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

"Today I stopped at the Grotto in Turtle Crossing Park. Sometimes it is mostly empty and, on those times, it is one of my most beloved spots to read God's word and pray.
I was reading Philippians 4: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
While reading I had noticed a family of deer. They kept coming closer until finally the fawn sniffed and nuzzled me. I stroked its head as the doe watched carefully, the buck standing a little away, but still relaxed. What peace. What calm. "And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
As fitting as this relaxing moment with the deer was, it fell short of what the Bible means. The word for 'peace' identifies the peace that comes at the end a war. The battle is over. There is now not only peace but, because of the nature of the battle, a long awaited peace. A peace that was hungered for.
The battle had been with God. The lost soul is alienated, separated from a relationship with their Creator. They have vioated His will and live in such a state. When the lost soul repents and believes upon the Lord Jesus Christ as their only hope for justification, for righteousness, and for the change of their life they so desperately need, they find that God gives them all of these things. And then, there is the peace.
For the peace of God, which truly surpasses our comprehension, I give thanks today."

Journal Entry November 25
"After our fellowship Thanksgiving meal at church, I followed Kat back to her country home. She likes to be called Kat but we often call her by her full name of Katharine Villaseñor just to make her smile. Kat is definitely an outdoors girl. I'm always feel so small next to her and she has some sort of military background.
Kat doesn't talk much about her background and people could easily be frightened around her, but we know her. Behind her rather blunt conversation is an incredibly kind woman. I understand she's met a man now*** and she actually tends to get a little giddy when the subject comes up.
Kat had asked me out to her place to give me some of her garden vegetables. They were fresh and looked great, so I thanked her profusely. In typical Kat style, she shrugged it off and said, "God is good." It is a phrase I hear used a lot at our church and the habit is to reply, "All the time." "God is good," one will say, and another will reply, "All the time."
On my drive back I was thinking about the distinction in the Galatians 5 passage on the fruit of the Spirit between 'kindness' and 'goodness'. Kindness is a disposition to please others. Because a kind heart is seeking the best for others it is marked by a mild temper, a calm spirit, an unruffled disposition, a disposition to treat all with cultured civility and politeness, and a desire to help at any opportunity. This is one of the regular effects of the Spirit's operations on the heart.
When we say, "God is good." we're typically talking about His kindness towards us. We mean, "God has been good to me." He has blessed me. But when the Bible talks about God's goodness, properly it is speaking of His righteousness. God is good. We see in the Scripture, "This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all."
John makes the same statement twice, once in a postive way, once in a negative. Postively, God is light. He is pure. He is knowledge and righteousness. Then negatively, in Him there is no darkness at all. Not only is God uncorrupted light, He is incorruptible. There is no darkness within Him, nothing to which evil could ever appeal in any way.
For God to save us and not only give us hearts of lovingkindness, but to also change us into creatures who love His law and His righteousness, is truly a work only He can do.
For God's gift of kindness and goodness, I give thanks today."
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

*** Indeed, she's met Glenn!
He is calling all,
all to listen to the honey shedding tongue of love,
love in the heart and step out of the prison of self,
self controlled by the lower nature, nature has two fold,
fold of lower and higher,
higher is where you need to climb to,
to many attachments holding us all back from our true destiny, destiny towards maturity has to be reached,
reached for all our well being,
being ready to listen to His calling.
It is Christmas 2021! This year through Christmas songs of praise by our carolers in Old Town, Paprihaven celebrates the Lord Jesus Christ coming to take our form to save the lost.
🎵 O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appears and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night, O Holy night, O night divine! 🎶
The Bible describes the time of Jesus' birth as the perfect time. But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.*
The fulness of time. In God's perfect, single, plan of redemption the Father sent the Son. The Son willingly, in great love, came to be the sacrifice. We are born under the Law of God, and we have all broken His perfect Law. Thus we need a Redeemer. Through Christ Jesus we have that. If you will turn away from your sin and trust in Christ Jesus, because of who He is and because of what He did, He will save you. He will change you. He will forgive you.
🎵 Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the Wise Men from Orient land
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend
He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend 🎶
God gives us the light of faith, and God draws us by the light of truth. Only God would have done this. That He would condescend to take our form to save His very enemies. That in this first incarnation He would not come as a king in splendor but be born in the humblest of circumstances. This is how God works.
For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.
🎵 Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is Peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother
And in His name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us Praise His Holy name
Christ is the Lord; O praise His name forever!
His power and glory evermore proclaim
His power and glory evermore proclaim 🎶
Joy, peace, and love. As His creation, we are hardwired, engineered by God to desire those three things. God has designed us to desire joy, peace, and love because He is the source of those things. That is, as the Creator, He designed us to have an affinity for Him.
In a lost state we are separated by God but we still desire joy, peace, and love. So we sadly try to find them in the things of this life. And thus we remain frustrated. Unsatisfied. Only the infinite, perfect God can satisfy. So the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ promises that, through Him, we shall truly have all three. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
